FIFA Soccer 12 News Post

CVG has revealed the first details of FIFA Soccer 12.

Quote:
  • FIFA 12 introduces the 'Impact Engine' which properly tracks and formulates contact between players, including their hips, knees etc.
  • The AI will also keep track of areas of the body players have been injured during a match. Players can also become injured off the ball if abused too much, especially late in the game.
  • FIFA 12 also introduces 'AI Vision Game' (rough translation), which promises to make passing more realistic. If you try to complete a pass to a player that's not within visible range, for example, it's less likely you'll complete the pass. EA hopes this will get rid of "blind passing".
  • Personality Plus is more developed and should influence AI players' passes this time.
  • AI is said to be "more human", with each player acting more or less according to his abilities. One example given is when an AI player sees Fabregas coming towards him with the ball, he'll act more carefully.
  • OPM describes "new presentation" of matches in FIFA 12, which are said to be very much inspired by English football crowds.
  • The game includes three new arenas, this time with integrated benches along the sidelines and "impressive lighting effects" according to OPM France.
  • Integration of a new short dribble with the left stick.
  • The game features a new camera that's noticeably closer to the ground.
  • There's also a new menu interface that appears to be simpler and more ergonomic than before.

It all sounds great but honestly I just want a CPU that is fun to play against and a functional and interesting career mode. I have zero interest in online.

I want every CPU team to feel different and to attack in different ways. I love the FIFA engine and am still playing it but each team starts to feel identical after a while.

I'm interested to see the results of this 'Revolution'

Presentation inspired by english crowds?? Ehhh. Should have modeled that part of the game after french, german, italian, or south american crowds.

The "Impact Engine" will also hopefully mean the fouls are better. As in, you can't just ram into people at will and walk away with no foul being called.

I hope the presentation gets the kind of upgrade their giving to the two American football games.

Very intrigued by the "AI Vision Game". I think the camera most people play on creates a lot of the ping pong passing because you can see so much of the pitch.

Sounds promising as FIFA does require a "revolution".

A camera that is similar to PES would be amazing too!

'AI Vision Game' makes no sense to me. Both the virtual player's field of view and point of view are different than the ones of the human who is controlling them. For example, if your game camera is too tight you rely on the radar to make those 50 yarders like Gerrard. I wonder how much influence the discrepancy between different camera angles has.

I hope EA have extended their efforts beyond just gameplay tweaks this year. The career modes & season modes are so dull in both presentation & content.

Yea, that can go a long way for a casualer like me. Lol. I gotta get Fifa, this year. I finally bought the last one after not owning one since the Genesis days...only to take it back. Buyers' remorse kicked in cuz I had bought 4 games and thought I went a bit overboard especially after spending tons elsewhere during that time. So, I just kept toiling with the demo. Such a fun game.

I WILL get this one, though...I think...Heh....

I'm thinking "vision game" is based more on your players vision rather than your vision. for example heel passes or passes where you receive the ball with your back to the goal and just turn around a pass a perfect through lob pass. It makes no sense to penalize players who use a closer camera angle.

The ratings are generally jumbled, but many players and teams do seem to have similar gameplay and tactics. The developers need to go beyond Personality Plus. Any improvement to vary CPU tactics and performance would be welcome. The game needs to be more organic. Focus on the buildup.

It's good to see the foul situation may be improved. The CPU was rougher in FIFA 11, and rarely carded. More CPU fouls could lead to more free kicks, and more goals. I don't want FIFA 12 to be an arcade goal fest, but FIFA 11 was tougher to score in.

All these announcements are encouraging. Fix FIFA 11's shortcomings, then be prepared to patch any bugs in FIFA 12, and my faith in the FIFA series will be restored.

If there aren't major changes in Career Mode, none of this matters. Seriously. For us who play 90% offline, CM is a joke. There have to be changes.

Manager mode is horrid compared to last yrs imo. They need to address game play issues such as the high pressure, the constant headed goals by cpu, standing tackles, change the trick stick to make it easier to pull off move and more variety between how different teams play

will my AI defenders see fabregas and mark him, thats all i ask. you see him mark him i should not have to mash the B button for pressure..........

arhhhhh cmon fifa please fix user AI....

This all seems like good news. Each one individually may not solve everything, but together they could be brilliant. The contact system could see more fouls for the AI and players who seemingly just hold down the "A" button and make countless standing tackles, even if they go through the back of a players body. This would help when receiving the ball with your back to a defender, making the ball very hard to take. The new passing seems to take away more of the "ping-pong" that was still somewhat in FIFA11 because players wont be able to pass the ball as efficiently with one touch to space or players behind them. Lastly, the "more human" AI having players back off of attackers may allow users a bit more time to turn and make a decision than last year, and possibly even make the trick stick more useful. If running at a defender with pace in real life, he wouldn't just charge you and stick out a leg to tackle, he would back off and wait for you to put the ball in a place where he could poke it away or block you off, it seems like this may now be what happens against the CPU. All this combined may see a user be able to receive a pass and turn with enough time to pick out another pass, all while the defense is playing more positionally and not just sprinting at you to tackle it away.

Forgive me if I am wrong but I interpret that as the player has a vision cone so to speak although its invisible. attempting a pass blind to your player you are controlling will (and should) result in a big accuracy drop on the pass. So you may have to take an extra step to make sure you are looking toward the target you are passing to rather than just blindly pass to a guy you trust is there because you see him, but your character wouldnt be able to actually see on the pitch.

Same BS we hear every year and the real problems with the game are never addressed. They just at more "features" without improving the flaws.

I would like a FIFA where the cpu players will actually score in a wide open net, instead of shooting it wide from within the 18 yard box with no goalie.
