MLB 13 The Show News Post

With the MLB 2K series all but confirmed to be dead, Kotaku's Owen Good has posted an article on what MLB 13 The Show must do to keep the fans of baseball gaming happy. It should be interesting, considering a simulation baseball game for the 360 doesn't look very likely.

Quote:
Your long slog through your career in Road to the Show makes the game's threadbare commentary painfully apparent. I think the world of Matt Vasgersian but he is shackled to an outdated commentary engine given to repetition and dead air. Dave Campbell's dialogue library is really showing its age, and a majority of his work sounds like Dave Campbell playing Dave Campbell. Eric Karros should be thanked for his service and sent home. The Show has world class visuals and a smooth, if minimalist, broadcast presentation. The commentary supporting it has not pulled its weight in years.

In your opinion, what does MLB 13 The Show need to do next year to satisfy your baseball gaming needs?

the cpu AI especially in late innings when i send kemp up to the plate and the idiot AI brings in a lefthander to face him. isnt there lefty specialist in the game of baseball? i remember almost all these teams have them!! we even have elbert lol! improvement of AI by CPU would be great. otherwise i guess ill have to control the other teams bullpen. just have lefty vs lefty and righty righty handled better is what i mean. the relievers are brought in and pitch too long somethimes just 1 batter should be pitched to then replace pitcher.

surprised nobody has brought this up.

I should be able to pinch-hit for my DH, then lose the DH position. I should also be able to defensively switch the DH elsewhere, again, at the expense of having a DH.
Definitely this. I should be allowed to PH with a pitcher and not have him pitch in the next inning.

how about the option to fully control fielders

Have the commentators be team specific. What I mean is, for example, if you are playing as the Tigers, have Mario and Rod commentating.

Add Tiger Stadium.

MORE CLASSIC UNIS (EXPOS)...I know your hands are tied here. However, why not give us the ability to create our own unis. I have NO idea why we can create a team unis and all online but not offline. This is quite silly if you ask me. No one is going to play Show online as awful as lag is. The numbers speak for themselves. Much like player share, we could have team share and even uni share. Team share would be SWEET for classic roster makers such as myself. Also, how about some more hair already? How come we don't ever get guys dos like Lincecum and such. An Afro style would be awesome too. Give some 70s, 80s, and 90s players some good dos (mullets are a MUST...so many stars of the last generation rocked the mullet, afro, or just longer hair in general. This should also be an option. Aside from this, the game is stellar.

Oh yeah and those straight long stirrups from 70s 80s would be a nice addition...SOMETHING NOT YET MENTIONED: How about we have the color selected as team color 1,2,3, etc. actually show up under player edit as that team's team color. Anyone know what I mean by this? Andre Dawson needs his stance in the game already.

Sorry, but one more - MORE CLASSIC STADIUMS PLEASE!

Ueker as a secret unlockable announcer. I would play a whole season as the Tribe from Major League. Come on guys, I guarantee you Bob would do this for pennies. He loves baseball more than anyone I have ever met. Yes, I have met Bob back in the day when my mom worked on the set of Mr. Belvedere. I'm telling you guys he would do it for sure. Just ask. If anything, it would give some folks some variety. I like the idea of just adding in additional announcers with the option to mute whomever we don't want selected for commentary Vasgergen is SO awful

Franchise mode hasn't really changed too much at all this gen so it's time to update basically everything. Start with career stats, career stats and more career stats. Despite my love for The Show, I went with MLB 2K12 this year because career stats is a blood issue to me. I just don't care about franchise mode without them.

Other things I would like to see added in franchise mode is rehab assignments, chronic injures and players being called up/send down based on performance. Everything dealing with coaches needs to be updated. Trade logic needs to be looked at again and lineup logic should be tweaked as well. At least make it to where it "sticks" if I manually set it. Lastly, I shouldn't have to control all teams to have a decent franchise experience. I didn't have to last gen, so I shouldn't have to now.

I'd like to see The Show take 2k's gesture pitching and expand on it as well.

With that said if career stats are in, I'll purchase The Show next year. If it's not, I'm perfectly fine with sticking to MLB 2K12 until stats are added or another baseball game with stats comes along.

Some or all of these things have been mentioned already, but here is my list.

#1 - Trade Logic. Trade logic needs a serious overhaul in franchise mode. I shouldn't have to control all 30 teams so I can reject offers of "Mike trout and 2 other prospects for an aging verteran". I realize making this happen is easier said than done, but some kind of improvement is needed.

#2 - Some kind of presentation in franchise mode. It doesn't have to be "ESPN" or anything like that. Just something. Anything to make it feel a little more real.

#3 - Commentary can always use a little work, but it always go stale. Maybe have a rotating secondary / 3rd person? Anything to keep it from going stale just a little bit longer.

I guess thats all I got. I could come up with some awesome off the wall ideas that will never happen but there is no point. To be honest they could re-release the same game next year with updated rosters and I'd probably still buy it.

I don't know nearly enough about baseball as some people. As some things people are suggesting are too great. I mean, I hadn't even thought of more kinds of errors that don't automatically lead to extra bases, just missed outs. Greatness.

But I do know logistics and when I see people suggest things like "Have the actual commentating crews for each team" I wonder exactly how many on the dev crew has some kinda adverse reaction to that?

Not trying to flame, just...some things can't and won't be done.

And about commentary, I know a thing about sound and I don't even care about the dead air as most of the time I'm not even paying attention to the commentary. But I just wish it was more alive. I mean a key home run shouldn't have just Vas...I ain't gonna try to spell his name...shouldn't have just the play by play going. It's just too obviously one person in a booth at a time reading off a script. Nothing organic about it.

But it doesn't seem like they wanna change it so...eh.

That is impossible financially.

Even BETTER lineup/rotation logic, trade logic FA signings, mid-year FA signings in order to make the game even more realistic.

TWIB-like highlights in--franchise, much like the broken madden weekly hight reel

Glove and Bat updates, and possibly some authentic gear from Rawlings, Wilson, Easton, Nike, Under Aurmor, New Balance, Sam Bat, Minzuno, DiMarini...just to name a few.

Better audio in the stands. I still havent felt a "playoff atmosphere" type game with the way the crowd reacts. Also, in spring training games, the crowd sounds too loud.

different ball off bat sounds in different stadiums.

there are obvious glaring glitches in the game, but overall...it is the best game ive ever played
Pretty much this, a complete overhaul of franchise mode would be amazing. Especially if we got a nightly/weekly recap show, more in-depth/improved scouting system, smarter AI managers, and a headline ticker on the franchise home screen much like 2k8 has (Haven't played a 2k past that, not sure if they still use it.)

lol as if other forums matter, join a league and will see plenty of users that have a great experience. Online experience is based on your internet connection, I pay alot for my internet and have had minimal issues. Biggest issues so far was the freeze using broadcast view.

I think a drastic improvements can be made with fielding and throwing animations, and all movements in general. There is still a stiff old gen feel to this new gen product. Outfielders throw like sissies and most infield throws look painfully awkward. Outfielders coming in on balls then go through the stumble animation shouldn't happen. And, when the first baseman goes to throw the ball around the horn after an out, hurry it up, you don't have to stand and look back at the bag and take your time about it.

Very trivial what I mentioned, in no way does this affect the game, the game is heaven for me, so basically, don't **** the game up by doing too much to it.

Getting new announcers I am guessing is totally out of the question. They have spent way to many years getting those guys to record audio to just throw it all away and start over with brand new teams of announcers.

Look at the MLB 2K game the announcing in that game is pretty amazing. Yes some stuff is repetitive after awhile but it feels totally different than what the show announcers do and it really does add an extra dimension to the game that I think the show lacks.

One thing I never really understood about the show is why does the commentary differ for exhibition games and franchise games? I have heard many more lines of commentary during exhibition games than I have during franchise games.
