NBA 2K13 News Post

2K Sports has just released the written breakdown of all 31 NBA 2K13 Signature Skills.

Quote:
Q: Why create these Signature Skills for 2K13 when you already have several attributes in 2K12?

A: We felt that our existing attribute and tendency system quite didn’t lend itself well enough to various situational moments that happen in basketball, nor did it help identify very specialized players. Outlet passes, winning charge calls, staying hot through in-game breaks, etc, are just a few areas where our attributes system failed to give you what you need. We’re now able to dig deeper into these situations to allow players stand out where they’re most known. Let’s take shot blocking for example. LeBron James is well-known as the best chase down blocker in the league. In 2K12, when you were in a chase down situation, LeBron was unable to block the shot from behind as much as we’d like him to because he had only a 60-ish Block attribute. With the inclusion of the new Sig Skill, Chase Down Artist, we’re now able to give him the types of skills he needs to embarrass the unsuspecting shooter, without having to artificially raise his Block attribute (which would then allow him to block shots in areas he’s not known for). There are reasons like this for every skill created, which is why we’re bringing this feature to you for NBA 2K13.

Here is a list of all 31 signature skills.

I'd say elite ball handlers send their defender into "recovery" about 30% of the time anyway....I just hope it's more "recovery" and not so much falling or stumbling..that would be my only concern....I don't think dudes will be falling left and right at all though....

Man, is this really going to turn into a argument. But of course I'll throw my 2 cents in lol, I understand colts worries, but from what I've read and what I'm assuming I think lockdown d sig skill will make you less likely to get crossed. Not speaking to you, just in general but if your defensive skills are up to par, I can see this sig skill as a enhancer to your skills. I'm with you colt, ankle breaker had me worried but from the details of lockdown defender I'm okay with it.

I think these sig skills, will be a way for star players to shine. For example if d.rose is pushing the ball after a turnover and the only player I have to protect the rim is lebron, if I go for a regular block d.rose will most like do a acrobatic layup or draw a foul, but if I position lebron to play to his strength and put him in position for a chance down block I'll give myself a better chance of stoping rose, because lebron is not a great shot blocker as far as head to head, but he's a great chase down blocker. I can still miss the block because of roses acrobat sig skill(http://youtu.be/c4GQKEHMAyY)

I don't think they will guarantee anything because there are sig skills to counter each other.

This is something I'd love to know.

I am VERY interested in the Eraser skill.

The satisfaction of swatting Kobe after a dunk, and that will also cool Kobe down offensively for up to a minute and a half? AND that gets my teammates energized again?

So sweet.

Exactly.

See ... 2K is subconsciously teaching users how to play the game of basketball.

Us hardcore ball fans already know what to do without sig skills, but for the casuals this is gonna make everything more streamlined for them.

Charge Card is like a master at flopping right

# 51 Po Pimp @ 09/02/12 04:36 PM
This could also be even more valuable in Association as GMs may be looking for a particular role of player to fit their team.

SS's are deeper than i thought but still looks arcadish to me. i think they could come up with another solution about differenting the players. for ex: more tendencies

Anything that separates the skill of bball aficionados from casuals is a great addition to the franchise imo. My in depth knowledge of my supposed "mediocre" Jazz team will destroy a casual Heat or Lakers user, just as in previous 2k games.

The key, as in previous iterations will be to play team ball, utilizing every attribute, individual category rating, and now signature skill of each player to overwhelm the ill informed pick up and play casual user. And if you're fortunate enough to play like minded sim players in leagues or OAs, the ensuing chess match and team building will be epic to say the least.

If anything the addition of these sig skills will force people to adapt to the strengths of their players and teams or risk being blown out by a dedicated user who has mastered their teams inside out; yes that includes a dedicated bobcats user!.

Some skills sound really cool, still some of them doesn't make sense to me at all. For example, how a pass from J. Noah (Post Playmaker) makes you to be better at shooting? (The pass will hit the receiver on point and will give him up to a 10% bonus on two-point shots and a 4% bonus on three-point shots, so long as the potential made shot by the shooter would result in an assist for the Post Playmaker). The pass itself should make you to get a better opportunity to shot (for example to make you a bit more wide open and have more time to make a shot) but not just make a better shotter no matter why. I have an idea what they were trying to make, but I dunno, it still sounds strange to me.

Yeah I'm also interested to see how players acquire these since I do draft classes. Will I have to assign them to a player before they are drafted or does the game assign them based on ratings and tendencies?

The only thing is being locked at 5. I dont want players with a ton of them, but I am pretty sure a player might not have the skills they should have.

The only thing I want to hear is how they are obtained and is it ratings related. Does a player have to have a certain rating to have a skill.? And can they be switched before games.
lebron has at 60's block rating and he has chase down block ss. so they dont hve to have.

I said this in the other, there was no way in previous 2ks to replicate the energy given to a team after a big dunk, big block, a player stepping up and putting his body on line to draw a charge, having a player on the floor that you know has your back on defense or having a PG that knows what to do with the ball and when to do it. A lot of these skills do what tendencies can't.
