NBA Live 13 News Post

NBA Live 13 has been canned, kicked to the curb, canceled, put out to pasture. However you want to put it, NBA Live 13 is no more.

Below is a statement from EA Sports Executive Vice President, Andrew Wilson.

Quote:
After a lot of consideration, we have made the decision to not launch NBA LIVE 13. I'd like to give you a bit of perspective.

When we started the process of bringing back NBA LIVE, we knew it was going to be a long journey. We started by moving the game to a new studio. We brought in some of the best new technology that has helped fuel innovation in our other games. We launched an even deeper level of engagement with our community to gather more feedback directly from fans. And we built a whole new development team to bring it all to life. We felt like we were on the right path.

We also made a commitment to deliver a high quality experience — this is what our fans expect and what we demand of ourselves at EA SPORTS. But making great games is not easy, and we're just not there yet on NBA LIVE 13. Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it's clear that we won't be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we're going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great. This decision puts us on the right track for success well into the future in a rapidly changing industry.

I'm disappointed that we have not yet met our high expectations with NBA LIVE, but I remain motivated about where we're going. We're committed to delivering new innovation in online, and our progress in the visual presentation of the game continues to take big strides. We also know that a great game starts with great gameplay, and this remains a huge priority for us.

This wasn't an easy decision, but it's the right one for our fans. I hope you'll agree when you're able to play the game next year.

Andrew Wilson
Executive Vice President, EA SPORTS

The sad part is that NBA Live 10 was actually a step in the right direction...but they ruined all of that progress.

The NBA Live franchise has been lagging far behind for way too long and the 2K series is just too damn good.

"Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it's clear that we won't be ready in October"

Reading between lines I understand:
"Since 2k13 demo came out, we won't be ready in October. We're all playing that game to death"

Change the title again. NBA Hype 14!!

Time to go into a new direction. Damn, used that one already.

The sad thing is its taken 3 years just for them to cancel the title AGAIN. Where is the time management and direction? I put this one solely on the management team and their decision making. Not on the devs. There's no reason a quality title should have to take four years to develop after having a strong starting base, NBA live 10, which they for some reason decided wasn't good.

A major screw up all around from the decision making process.

Pretty predictable, to be honest.

Wow, Mike Wang really made a huge impact. Goes to EA, 2K10 falls a bit while Live 10 becomes the best Live made. Returns to 2K, 2K11 becomes legendary, 2K13 has Live elements while EA never makes a bball game for 3 years straight.

Marketing should've let him do what he wanted to do.

Tried it, still having the same problems. The only thing that's changed between the time I used to play NBA 2K without issues and now is my console. Eventually, I need to try it on another machine and see if anything is different.

This is the reason why you don't need an exclusive license, the law of natural selection! If your game is good, people will buy it, period. If it's trash, it gets canceled.

I'm shocked! I don't understand NBA Live has been running since '95 NBA 2K has been runnig since 2000. NBA Live had a 5 year advantage; AND 2 years since NBA Live 10. What's the problem, that something decent can't be put up? THen again with all this said A lot has been going on for EA Sports, and basketball games are not easy to make. Even if NBA Live 14 comes out, NBA 2K14 will likely be bringing back crew and explaning even more. Regarless i was getiing NBA 2K13 anyways, been playing since NBA 2K7! Love the demo!

It's like the controller has no sensitivity and all of my movements are clunky. I tried to buy another controller to fix the problem, but it didn't do anything. I'm not sure what the issue is because I never had problems in any of the other games. I almost think something is up with my Xbox, but I've bought so many of them that I don't want to shell out for another one. NBA 2K is the only game I have that gives me problems.

Live looked like it sucked, but I was thinking about breaking down and getting it if I had to. I guess I'm just out of luck with NBA games for a while.
Na, it's for everyone the past years. But this year they FINALLY fixed the responsiveness and fluidity! Try out the NBa 2K13 demo! It's amazing!

I kinda knew this was going to happen, when they delayed it. I was hoping they would stick with it, just for the loyal fans. Hopefully the series isn't cancelled all together because they can not, do this again.

Hopefully they will go back to the Live 10 foundation and just make improvements off of it. Live 13 would have been released, if they didn't try to build off of Elite. You can see elite in the Live 13 gameplay video. I'm usually against saying some people should be fired, but at this point I do not see any other solution.

Dear OS, after this final act, pls stop reporting further on on this waste of "project" and waste of everyone's time. It gets really pathetic to read whatever they decide to send to the public.

With NBA 2k13 running as smooth as it does, I personally feel like 2K sports not making a College Game is like Manny and Mayweather refusing to fight. It makes no sense.
