Madden NFL 25 News Post

EA Sports have released two Madden NFL 25 playbooks today, which detail the Run Free mechanic and Infinity Engine 2.

Playbook 1: Run Free

Quote:
There are few things more exciting than watching the grace and power of NFL ball carriers. Sure, everyone loves a 60-yard touchdown bomb, but there’s something special about watching Adrian Peterson lower his shoulder to bowl through a defender, or seeing Larry Fitzgerald catch the ball in space, make a quick cut and then race untouched into the end zone. The one constant in all elite players is control, and this year Madden NFL 25 is putting all that control right at your fingertips.

Playbook 2: Infinity Engine 2

Quote:
Last year, Madden NFL 13 introduced physics to the franchise with the Infinity Engine. It was a big step forward and a huge feature at this point in the current console cycle. However, as with any new technology, there is always room to grow. This offseason, it was a major priority for the Madden dev team to add new features, fix known issues andcreate a smoother, more realistic experience. With that in mind, it's time to introduce Madden NFL 25's new feature, Infinity Engine 2.

just a quick observation of something that needs to be addressed..

why are taped ankles still looking like there is 4 inches thick of tape on the cleats ..ankle tape jobs definitely dont resemble anything like that and they should be flush and tight to both the cleat and the ankle. why the art department gives taped ankles the "bulky/ribbed" look is baffling,,again its just a cosmetic issue but an eyesore to me

I think usually on this day every year people are pretty excited but the general feeling this year is very low.

I think people want better running but they didnt get much that wasnt just a 'fix', non-auto sprint returning. Like not running into an O-lineman was the promise in M09.

Infinity engine brings nothing but fixes when i was expecting the big breakthrough given it was lucky to make it in next year.

New combos at very little to the running game.

Not looking very healthy on gameplay this year, yes lets hope for Next-Gen May 21st reveal is impressive

I believe he's speculating with reference to the Microsoft next-generation XBOX reveal event, not anything Madden-specific.

To the end of the write-ups, I agree with a couple posters above - this is basically the same stuff as was described as new in NCAA, though I'm not sure if NCAA is going to have the LT/L2 "precision moves" mechanic detailed here? I don't remember hearing about it for that game, someone tell me if I'm wrong.

I stated in another thread, I enjoyed the write-ups of Under the Code vs what EA put together.

The write-ups were honest and sincere.

Heat-seeker? What?
I am Sorry but LMAO @ how this here was phrased! Classic.

(didn't see this thread at first so apologies for the double post)

"The defense also had more big hit moments (not sure if its because my thumbs are weapons) or because of the new heat-seeker control. I felt like when I had to go for risky tackles or take on blockers, I still had a chance to lunge and make a play. Lastly, don’t hurdle towards my player in Madden 25, I never go low…Or do I? #Lockup"

Anyone else find the need for EA to equalise their overpowering of offense with CPU assistance reeks of laziness and uninspired/fundamentally flawed game design?

Defense is basically being relegated to CPU determining the outcome with hardly any skill required.

Timing a tackle will disappear, as will timing an interception... Yet the fundamentals (coverage/pursuit) that really effect these things will be ignored and glossed over... Typical.

Can't be any less excited for Madden after reading that article.

Sounds promising. Patiently standing by.

The infinite engine sounds good imo. Dotn like the combo moves. But from what i read some things can make the game more fun. Its all about how ea executes them

# 31 DeuceDouglas @ 04/25/13 11:00 AM
Both of these aren't sexy in writing or video. I'm intrigued to see how it feels when you're playing though and also how the CPU executes the moves. They mention how worse backs won't be able to execute the moves as well, the only thing that worries me is that playing on All-Madden will still just turn every back into a Earl Campbell-Barry Sanders hybrid.

Can anyone confirm if the new IE effects blocks?

"Last but not least, defensive pursuit angles have been tuned so that defenders are smarter about tracking down ball carriers. Combined that with the breakdown animation and recovery ability, defensive-minded players will have plenty of moves to choose from."
Yesss!

Heat-seeker? What?
I LOL at this and everyone is looking at me like wtf is so funny, but they will never understand. First thing to me that came to mind was playing Mortal Kombat using Jax or one of the cyborgs who shoot missiles LOL!!

I hope we get to see true gameplay of this soon!

# 35 hanzsomehanz @ 04/25/13 12:32 PM
Jax, really smoke?

I was thinking more along the lines of Scorpions "get over here!" because we all know that best simulates the suction-tackling we have seen over the years - may as well celebrate the D while we are here for the countdown *looks away*.

Looking back, we all know they mean heat-seeking missiles - those TNT dynamite tackles were too messy *looks away smirking*

Actually when I was reading the first part of the playbook it seemed like a gimmick but then when I started reading more it got interesting. None of you guys can like. The mechanic behind the LT or L2 being a stutter step kind of thing and you being able to string moves out of that is what we needed. When they emphasize stringing moves, it it more in the context of the new precision mode that they added. They also mentioned that they added 30 new moves in other articles that I read. When you actually read into it more and not just stop at the video it sounds pretty cool. Plus they emphasized the fact that the higher rated juking players will pull of prettier moves than the other backs. They will do the 3rd tier moves so apparently there is 3 levels of juking. It was also mentioned that elite backs will definitely be separated from the others.

They also mentioned that since new things were added to the ball carrier, they had to add more logic to the defense. What was in the top 5 of best news was that they fixed pursuit angles. This was something that REALLY needed to be fixed. That would mean instead of players running at angles to run to the back of your player, they will actually get in better position to cut you off.

All of that sounds good, however, where EA messed up was with the showcase of this trailer. This trailer did a terrible job of showing off everything that they talked about in the playbooks. NCAA did a much better job with at least telling us what was added or changed. Hopefully there are more videos added for these features soon.

Way more refreshing than just watching the bad video they put together.

Well said and stated, I agree.

The trailer didn't work well.

I don't think they should have released any trailer at all showcasing the "run free" stuff because it was pretty much a lose-lose from the beginning. Either you get the trailer we got and it's boring, unexciting and not sexy. Or you have a trailer that looks like an And-1 mixtape and it seems like you can take any back and turn them into Barry Sanders.
