NASCAR '14 News Post

After announcing an upcoming NASCAR '14 patch way back in April, the NASCAR '14 team has finally released it.

Check out some of the details below.

Quote:
Hey all, thanks for getting in contact with us about the update. For those having the following issues, they are due to the transition between the original game and the update, you will need to restart your entire career / season, not just a race, in order for the changes to take full effect.

• Caution comes out before restart.
• Car won't clear the track
• Even after restarting the race, the 87 car won't clear the track
• Qualifying undefined so players can't get to race
• Won't load on single player
• Can't play Watkins Glen

We are also aware of an issue with players who try to make two sets of pit stop adjustments while qualifying and the Chase Elliott car name. Our team is looking into this.

Not a lot of good feedback so far. A couple of people have posted some photos of what they are seeing early.

Gamers Are the First to Experience New Chase for the Sprint Cup Format with Updated NASCAR® ‘14

Deep Silver announced today the availability of a free, robust gameplay update for the hit racing game NASCAR® ’14 that will allow gamers to be the first to experience NASCAR’s new Chase for the Sprint Cup format.

Developed by ETX Racing, the NASCAR ’14 gameplay update features the expanded Chase field of 16 drivers and new round-by-round advancement format that will decide the next NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion. The free gameplay update also includes the changes outlined below. A full list of improvements is available on the ETX Racing web site, www.ETXRacing.com.
  • New qualifying and Chase format rules announced by NASCAR in early 2014
  • Additional drivers to complete a full field of 43 Sprint Cup drivers
  • Various gameplay refinements around pitting, decals and paint, and the online private lobby
  • Difficulty setting adjustments designed to bring AI closer to the selected level
  • Adjustments to Darlington and Kansas race lengths
NASCAR ’14 launched in February to rave reviews, including from AutoWeek.com who promised the game will “...win fans over,” Operation Sports.com who said, “the game is just flat out fun to race” and Bleacher Report reported, “because the gameplay and career mode is solid, this game will get the majority of my virtual racing attention.”

A perfect racing season companion, NASCAR fans can look forward to regular NASCAR ‘14 paint schemes and Highlights DLC packs throughout the season, which concludes with the final race at Homestead-Miami Speedway in November. This is your chance to live the moment.

So i tried to run a Race at Atlanta... Set the session for Practice, Qualifying, and Race.

I can select how long the practice session should be. Then I go to select the Qualifying time. The only thing that shows up is "undefined". So... no big deal I guess... go into the race. It's frozen now on the loading screen showing me the track stats.

Great job guys, Great job...

Edit: Tried rebooting then trying again... Set up for Vegas this time... Still froze on the loading screen for the race. Unreal.

I checked their forums real quickly... some guys saying you have to delete all your game data from the hard drive to make it work. Some saying its not worth it as the AI race 5 wide at New Hampshire still. I don't have patience for this before work. I'll check in today from work, hopefully you guys have much better luck.

Patch is live on PS3.

I just quickly tried a single player game at Kansas. Seemed like it was easier to maintain a line with the controller but maybe I'm just looking for something to be different. Just ran a few laps, though. Don't know much about anything else. Would be interested to hear other feedback.

Hopefully some of you guys are having good experiences out there. I am at work now, but spent some time reading on their official forums, seems like there's still alot of unhappy people out there. Many on Xbox having the same issue I had this morning. Eutechnyx has released information in this thread below if you are having the same issue as I was: http://forums.nascarthegame.com/thre...216#post454216

Unfortunately for me it means I likely have to restart my career. I'm going to clear the cache first though and try as some on their forums have said it worked and they didnt need to reset.

All in all though, based on some of the other things I've read this morning restarting my career won't be that bad, because I likely won't want to play the game long enough to make me regret having to restart it, or to make me work hard to re-play it to get it where it was.

To be fair, alot of the issues some people seem to be having are the ones they addressed by saying restarting career should help solve. Except for the issue that seems common of people trying to pit to make adjustments twice during qualifying, then not being allowed to drive their car from the pits... Eutechnyx claims they are lookin into that. So, that may get fixed in 5 months time.

I'm going to try and clear up my issue in an hour on my lunch break and try and get a race in before i actually make a real judgement.

I tried an offline daytime single race at daytona and it just hangs at the loading screen with the badge stats. Has done it twice in a row to me. It isn't frozen as the music plays & the loading icon keeps spinning. Seems like it's a bug. Has anyone experienced this with the game today after the patch? I have the PS3 version. Okay I just tried a dfferent track talladega & the same thing happens just hangs at the loading screen. Terrible.

I just raced 54 lapper at Kentucky with full qualifying and damage on, and had no issues. The AI raced fine, they pitted when they were supposed to - I literally had zero issues with this race now race(on PC)

A guy I know and was talking with, has the PS3 version. He had the hang-up issue and had to delete his previous saves and re-download the patch, and is no longer having issues. He basically did the same race at Kentucky, and felt it was much improved also, and had minimal issues. He also just sent me a text, and said that after 4 laps at The Glen, it raced the best it ever has.

Take this info as just our opinion, as I am sure there will plenty of other opinions that will be just the opposite of what we found.

Okay I'll give that a try thanks.

I had that issue too. Had to delete all of my game data, and start over. Really quite ridiculous actually. All my setups, all my paint schemes, upgrades and progress. GONE.

It's really got me to the point where I'll probably just go trade it in tomorrow. I can't be bothered to play the damn game right now having lost everything and needing to start over. I just don't have that kind of time.

I backed up my files to a USB stick, so I'm going to try and copy over my paint schemes file to see if they load. There's a progress file, and a game data file too. I'm going to try them one at a time to see if one of them has my setups and doesn't screw the whole thing up. I'm ok with starting the career progress over, I mean it sucks and all, but if I have to start all my setups and everything over too, then I'm likely done with the game, and Eutechnyx as a whole.... Unless the racing is far better. That's about the only thing that's going to make me want to re-invest all of that time.

Can anyone tell if the AI drivers are less aggressive...or do they still railroad you in the corners?

# 10 RunN1st @ 07/08/14 03:11 PM
Man... sorry to hear that, Brandon. I never really invested any time in any of the modes only did single races a handful of times but didn't go much further since that mode was also broken.

I'm liking what I see thus far from this patch. Raced at Sonoma and had a good race against the full field of AIs. They raced clean and had my hands full just trying to keep pace.

Head's up: I'm hearing that qualify freezing is still present when you make changes and try to go back out.

# 11 Stormyhog @ 07/08/14 05:09 PM
Yeah it sucks for some that had invested time into careers and paint schemes. I never got deep into anything just single races. I deleted my files and everything works fine now.

# 12 cusefan74 @ 07/08/14 05:35 PM
If you are getting freezing while loading turn the music off. I saw some other guys they turned the music off and have had no problem. I always turn the music off and I haven't had an issue.

The problem I'm having is during qualifying when I pit for adjustments I can't go back out again.

I would love to respond in detail, but the question is so subjective. I never had a problem with them prepatch, so I will just say they seem less aggressive than before, but probably better to get an answer from someone with the same perspective as yours bro -

# 14 TCrouch @ 07/08/14 06:43 PM
Yeah, that's one problem they DID seem to fix, even before this patch. They don't come up into you exiting turn 4 or plow into you heading into 1 or 3 very often. But like so many other things they did, they went too far--instead, you have AI drivers acting like they've never seen a car inside of them, freaking out and doing that 'wiggle bobble' move they do, sliding way up the track and heavily braking, making it absurdly easy to pass them. Simply get a nose under them and watch them have a seizure.

I'm more curious if that's been toned down.

# 15 Dazraz @ 07/08/14 06:56 PM
Positives: AI Drivers are Less Aggressive & Racing seems more realistic.

Negatives (So Far): Tried a Race at Martinsville. No problem with Practice/Qualifying but game crashes at start of race which requires a System Reboot. Restarted the Race 3 times with same result.
Lap Times for your Driver are not always shown on Results Screen for Practice/Qualifying Sessions.

I only do Single Races but I really feel sorry for those people who have had to Reset all their progress for this Patch to be effective.

# 16 BurghFan @ 07/08/14 07:29 PM
Had a feeling the careers would have to be restarted once the patch dropped which is why I never started one. Just did a couple single seasons and some single races.

_____________
Just gonna edit this post rather than make a double post.

Started my career and not really sure what to make of these results. For the Daytona 500 Reutimann won the pole and Mears won the race. At Phoenix I won the pole (55% AI difficulty, 20% length for 62 lap race, 2x fuel, 1x tire wear) while Ryan Truex was on the outside pole. Start of the race I pretty much immediately get knocked back to around mid pack and Truex (Ryan, not Martin) proceeds to lead the first 35 or so laps until he finally pits. He then regained the lead after Jimmie Johnson finally decided to pit on lap 61 of 62 so RYAN Truex won the race. So, in short AI cars are still running absurd amounts of laps without pitting and there may be an issue drivers that should have lower ratings being too good. Other than that, the racing itself was pretty good. I finished 28th and 26th in the 2 races I ran.

So, I put in a few races last night just to see if it was worth me spending more time with this game or not.

Honestly, I don't see or feel much improvement. The AI may be a touch better, but its nothing special really. I raced at AutoClub... aside from a few of the cars in the back of the pack it was basically just a big pack of cars together. Looked more like a plate track than it did anything else.

The AI now seems overly paranoid about the players car now. Not all the time, but sometimes if you get under them or right up behind them, I've seen them wiggle and wobble up out of the way, sometimes into the wall. Which of course doesn't bring out a caution. Decide for yourself if that's good or bad.

Michael Waltrip and Ryan Truex are apparently all of a sudden the greatest Nascar drivers ever. After 5 races, Michael and Ryan are both top 10 in points. Ok.... sure.

When I go to pit during qualifying, they show my car pull up to the pits, and then just drive on through and before I know it I'm back on the track again. I don't have the option to select my wait time. Its set at 0 minutes, and nothing I do in the pit menu that comes up on screen can change it.

I didn't even attempt a race yet with fuel and tire wear to see how the pitting is.

Bristol still seemed to be a bit of a nightmare to me as well. I got driven through quite a few times.

All in all, I really don't notice much difference. Not enough to make me want to work my way back through career and re-create all of my setups and cars etc.

I'm going to put a bit more time into it tonight, play with a setup or two and up the difficulty a bit to see if I can get a better experience out of it, So far its very much of the same to me after 4 or 5 races. Sounds like others are having similar experiences. It's better I guess, just, nowhere near enough IMO.

The AI is not gonna be any different while racing. They said there wasn't much they could do with it. I noticed at Daytona that as soon as I bump somebody and try to push them in the draft now that their car is all over the place and they spin out really easy.

Exactly what I noticed. It was even happening between two AI cars.

The same thing though happens at almost any track if you get underneath a car. They just get all out of shape or into the wall. It's pretty messy at times.

That's what I was saying yesterday. That's been around for a while, and it certainly wasn't helped yesterday. I did find it was easier to fall in line and not get taken out in a race, but it was bizarre having Cole Whitt and backmarker cars running in the top 10 every time.

All in all, it seems to be pretty much what I expected. Which wasn't much.

Cars at least all pitted when I raced, so I didn't have 2 cars that miraculously made it an entire 10% race on 4x fuel, and the CPU cars' tires seemed to fall off about like mine. That in itself may make it more playable for me, but their difficulty percentage is all weird 60% should be a little over half speed at a track, you would think...but nope, it's only a second off the real pace, go figure), the controls are impossible to dial in consistently from track to track using a wheel.

It's just a mess every time I try to play it. I have about 30% fun, 70% head-scratching "WTF" moments.
