NBA 2K15 News Post

When you take the full team roster ratings from the initial NBA 2K15 roster, and run them through a super-secret mathematical formula to determine their relative strength, the results of which team's you will see played with most in 2K15 are what you'd expect, some teams feel as if their ratings won't reflect their real-to-life performance and some feel completely spot on.

The method behind these ratings (forever kept a secret in a cave across the world), is that star players are given much more value than role players. Also you have to keep in mind the rosters also don't reflect major injuries like Paul George at Indiana -- so the results will be skewed somewhat from what is expected on the real court this season. A team's entire roster depth is examined, but more weight is given to the very best players on a roster and their overall as those are the ones who will be on the court the most. Weaknesses of this system is that these are based solely on player overall ratings, so skill players and key cogs aren't weighted as highly as they might be otherwise, but the overall talent level on each team is fairly well represented.

So here's what the computer came up with:
  1. San Antonio - 18.25
  2. Cleveland - 18
  3. Oklahoma City - 16
  4. L.A. Clippers - 16
  5. Chicago - 14.75
  6. Washington - 12.75
  7. Golden State - 12.5
  8. Portland - 10.25
  9. Toronto - 10.125
  10. Charlotte - 10
  11. Houston - 10
  12. Memphis - 9.875
  13. Indiana - 9.625
  14. Detroit - 9.375
  15. Phoenix - 8.5
  16. Sacramento - 8.375
  17. Dallas - 8.25
  18. Miami - 8.25
  19. Atlanta - 8.25
  20. New Orleans - 8
  21. Brooklyn - 7.625
  22. Boston - 7
  23. L.A. Lakers - 6.875
  24. New York - 6.875
  25. Denver - 6.25
  26. Orlando - 5
  27. Minnesota - 4.875
  28. Philadelphia - 4.5
  29. Milwaukee - 3.5
  30. Utah - 3.25
What do you think? Are the four best teams in the game fairly well represented? Do you think San Antonio is the best team in the game still? Sound off!

While the Spurs are the best team in the league, I highly doubt we will see them as being the most used team in 2k. I would be surprised if they were even in the top 5 choices for people to play with. If 2k14 online is a reliable indicator to what teams people are going to use in 2k15, it will probably go something like this: 1. Cavs
2. Thunder
3. Clippers
4. Knicks
5. Bulls/Lakers

To do good with the Spurs takes a good basketball IQ, and alot of people would rather just have a team with 1 or 2 absolute stud superstars than an excellent, efficient team like San Antonio.

Sixers are only this high because they have Embiid as not injured. Take out Embiid and we are easily last.

If PIP difficulty stays at the level it is now some smart casuals will realize that having a strong TEAM will be most important aka spurs

LOL at Washington #6 & Toronto #9. Detroit #14 is suspect too.

The point is... when will we have a 2k NBA simulator where people can dominate with teams like the Spurs (or the Grizzlies, or... you know what I mean) instead of the individual superstars plagued teams (Cavs, Thunders, and so on...) if that day comes...

...only then it will be true that famous 'don't play videogames, play basketball' sentence... but is that actually a goal for Visual Concepts? Let's see, I personally don't think so...

Cheers! ;-)

Minnesota is better than Orlando, Boston, LAL, Sacramento (man are they ranked high).

Truth! The scoring balance I'm seeing so far will hopefully mean I spend less time trying to find the right sliders this year.

To say that there are 17 teams better than the Heat is asinine. That is all.

I totally agree, I mean it's not like they lost Lebron this Summer... Oh, wait.

Actually, Lebron did leave Miami. He returned to Cleveland.

It's not factoring injuries. Healthy Joel Embiid would change a lot.

Bro I'm from D.C. & I'm saying they're not the 6th best team lol. They are improved & they're coming on but they got exposed by Indiana in the playoffs last year. They have show & prove 1st lol. There are 3 or 4 teams below them from the west that are better.

WEST
San Antonio - 18.25
Oklahoma City - 16
L.A. Clippers - 16
Golden State - 12.5
Portland - 10.25
Houston - 10
Memphis - 9.875
Phoenix - 8.5
Sacramento - 8.375 - Way too HIGH
Dallas - 8.25
New Orleans - 8
L.A. Lakers - 6.875
Denver - 6.25 - Way too LOW
Minnesota - 4.875
Utah - 3.25

Kings are a lottery team, lost Isaiah Thomas, yet are rated above Mavs.
Nuggets were 3rd in 2013 with a healthy team + Iguodala. Gallinari/McGee healthy + brought in Afflalo. No way they are 13th in West.

EAST
Cleveland - 18
Chicago - 14.75
Washington - 12.75
Toronto - 10.125
Charlotte - 10
Indiana - 9.625
Detroit - 9.375 - Way too HIGH
Miami - 8.25 - Way too LOW
Atlanta - 8.25
Brooklyn - 7.625
Boston - 7
New York - 6.875
Orlando - 5
Philadelphia - 4.5
Milwaukee - 3.5

Miami (Bosh, Wade, Deng) is still better than Charlotte (Jefferson, Kemba, Lance)

Detroit brought in Jodie Meeks, Caron Butler, and D.J. Augustin. Depth was weak last year but I'm not really seeing how this pushes them ahead of Hawks/Nets/Knicks, much less Miami.
