FIFA 16 News Post

FIFA 16 will feature 12 Women’s National Teams, check out the trailer here and a few screenshots here. Those 12 teams include Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, and the United States of America. Gamers can use them in Kick Off, Offline Tournament and online Friendly matches.

EA Sports mo-capped the player movement from Sydney Leroux, Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan, and Megan Rapinoe. You will see new in-game animations, including new walks, runs and sprints. Facial scans, facial features and hairstyles were also completed at various tournaments and events.

FIFA 16 is scheduled to release on September 22nd for North America on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC.

UPDATE: EA Sports has added their FAQ for the Women's National Teams in FIFA 16. Below are a few of them, click here to view them all.

Quote:
Q: Can women’s teams play against men’s teams?

A: Keeping in line with how women’s football is played in real life at this level, women’s national teams can only compete against each other in FIFA 16.

Q: Can I play with women in FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT)?

A: No, and that’s because FIFA Ultimate Team relies on having a wide range of players in order to build out a viable environment and Transfer Market. Due to the relatively small number of women’s players in the game, and because women’s and men’s teams don’t compete against each other at this level in the real world of the sport, we decided not add women to Ultimate Team in FIFA 16.

Q: Why aren’t all Women’s National Teams in the game?

A: We would love to have more teams in the game. However, since adding female players is a new feature for the franchise, we were limited in how many teams and players could be added.

Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) today announced that EA SPORTS™ FIFA 16 will feature 12 Women’s National Teams for the first time in franchise history when it launches starting on September 22, 2015 in North America. Women’s National Teams from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, and the United States of America will all represent their respective federations in several FIFA 16 game modes including Kick Off, an Offline Tournament, as well as Online* Friendly Matches.

“Bringing some of the best women’s players and teams in the world to our franchise is a massive event for EA SPORTS, and we are equally excited about bringing millions of fans a new way to play,” said David Rutter, VP and GM, EA SPORTS FIFA. “We’re making sure fans get an authentic experience when playing with Women’s National Teams thanks to our innovative player capture and reference tools, as well as the sophisticated gameplay platform which we will continue to innovate on in FIFA 16.”

From all new player movement and likeness, to realistic animations and attributes, the FIFA development team have authentically recreated 12 of the top-ranked teams in the world. Capturing all new player movement was done with meticulous detail and supported by a motion capture session at EA Canada with four top players from United States Women’s National Team: Sydney Leroux, Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan, and Megan Rapinoe. The players’ movements helped to build new locomotion for women in FIFA 16 including new walks, runs, sprints, and horizontal movement. Soccer Canada also visited EA to provide full-player references captured using the 360 degree body scanning rig – the references were then used to develop new player models. And the mobile headscanning unit travelled to a variety of tournaments and events around the world to capture facial features including hairstyles to ensure players look as realistic as possible in FIFA 16. Players in the game will look and move in game like they do on the pitch when representing their country.

“I honestly can’t believe all of the science and technology behind the game itself, let alone getting us into the motion capture suits and eventually into the game,” said Abby Wambach, world record holder for International goals scored and forward, United States Women’s National Team. “We’re all excited to see ourselves in the game, but even more excited to see the reaction from all of the fans, including the fans of our team that maybe wouldn’t be expecting something like this from EA SPORTS.”

FIFA 16 with Women’s National Teams** will be available when the game launches on Origin™ on PC, Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, Xbox 360® games and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems.

I've read a comment in the Youtube comments that, if you take a look at the ball during Sinclair's free kick you can see a white line in front of the ball which would confirm that the magic spray will be on FIFA 16. Nice detail which it was easy to miss during the trailer
It's not problem if one person is ignorant. Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with what orion typed, but I don't think he meant it. It's hard to convey tone on this forum, or on any forum.

EA was bound to know that adding women's soccer into the game was going to cause a stir up, but it's going to happen and it's not a big deal unless there were a hundred more hard core misogynistic views.
What don't you people get here. Do the words I KID have no meaning to you? Again nothing, absolutely nothing that I said is related in any way whatsoever to women, my view of them, their role in society, or their place when it comes to sports and video games. Did I make that clear enough yet? Or shall I continue? Jiminy Christmas.

You are either part of making gaming a more inclusive place, or you are part of the backwards way of thinking that keeps putting walls up, finding ways to keep your hobby private and exclusive.
I really don't understand this thinking.

Nobody is putting up walls. Nobody is thinking backwards(ly). Nobody is displaying 'No Girls Allowed' signs. He/we simply think that the time could be better spent--which, by the way, is completely reasonable to desire.

I don't understand why you're getting so defensive for 'women gamers'. Nobody is attacking them...

The bad news is resources were directed away from things that should have been addressed first.

The good news is EA will have metrics on whether or not this feature will be used and/or worth the effort. They will let the marketplace decide and I have no problem with that.

What do you not get about an offensive joke not being funny? "I kid" isn't some magic get out of trouble line you can use when saying misogynistic stuff.

Yes, your form of humor does reveal what you think of women's place in society.
like saying you're going to "Drop a bomb on a Battleship" I'm sure military personnel, especially those in the Navy may find this much more offensive than anything I've said here. Be consistent sir.

Why do people keep saying they wasted resources when they haven't announced anything else?

This is starting to get way way off topic, and truthfully it's a little too close to a TOS violation for my liking, so I'm going to end my part in this discussion right here. Have a nice day!

Because it is common sense. In any sort of business....especially one on a hard deadline, finite resources are available and applied to said product/goal. Those resources are more or less static. And FIFA has a laundry list of issues that should and need to be addressed. Instead resources and focus, no matter how little, were used on this feature.

I'm dumbfounded by this. What resources are being diverted?

They added 12 teams. They probably did no more than a week (if that) of motion tracking. How is this any different than them adding Orlando City or NYFC to the game?

I could understand if they created a mode around it but the teams are only avaialble through play now. Also, I guarantee that all of the things you guys want improved from FIFA 15 are handled by different groups. Its not as if the Be A Pro or Franchise folks would be the same people working on adding teams.

But we don't know that, plus they just added teams its not like they gave them their own mode. All they did was add teams. Its funny because I don't remember seeing anyone complain about the legends team or the new MLS teams they added late in FIFA 15.

It's probably best to just drop that back and forth or take it to PMs. Don't need to get banned over a dumb argument.

It will take way too long to explain.

Again, the good news is EA will have metrics on whether to keep using resources on this feature in the future.

Thats a copout. Explain to me how adding teams takes away from gameplay improvements, franchise improvements and Be A Pro improvements when they are worked on by different teams.

Or how it's a "marketing disaster."

How many people who wouldn't have bought the game before will now buy the game because they can play with women's teams? Probably not a huge number, I'm guessing, but a meaningful number of people for sure.

How many people were planning on buying this game and now won't because there are women's teams in the game? No one.

Exactly. I remember people saying similar things when the Dream Team was added to 2k. "There are so many bugs in the game, why are thy focusing on this!" "Who cares about this, where are the franchise improvements". Its the same thing and its ridiculous.

This question needs to be brought up AGAIN, Where does it say that this took away from manager improvements or anything of the like? It doesn't because you don't have one team working on the game. You have a team for each part of the game. So there's a team exclusively for manager/bapro, gameplay, fut, etc. So let's not knock them and wait for more info to be released before we make conclusions.

No.

It is not a fact.

You are wrong.

Actual studies — FACTS, not your "facts" — say differently.

48 percent of the 190 million gamers in the United States are women.

Millions and millions of women play video games.

And before you respond with a lame joke about them playing cell phone games like Angry Birds and Candy Crush, look at the actual data that shows more than 13 million women play games on Sony and Microsoft consoles at least five days a week — nearly as much as men do.

Furthermore, millions of women play even the most stereotypically masculine games like Madden, Call of Duty, Halo, and Grand Theft Auto despite those games and communities making little effort to make women feel included.

So get your "facts" right before purporting that what you say actually holds any water.
