SAN DIEGO CHARGERS (TEAM 82 OVR)

Rookie HB Melvin Gordon (78 OVR) should provide stability and power to the Chargers’ running game. Ex-Bronco LG Orlando Franklin (90 OVR) will help the offensive line. QB Philip Rivers (90 OVR) may find his best targets in two-TE sets that feature Antonio Gates (88 OVR) and Ladarius Green (78 OVR). WRs include Keenan Allen (86 OVR), Malcolm Floyd (83 OVR), and Stevie Johnson (83 OVR).

RE Corey Liuget (84 OVR) the bright spot in the front seven, and the Chargers will need a big year from Melvin Ingram (79 OVR). The secondary is sparked by FS Eric Weddle (96 OVR) and CB Brandon Flowers (89 OVR).
My goodness. That chargers teams looks fun to use. I feel like I'm use to seeing lower stats haha.

Virgil Green 82 ovr? He has yet to even start more than 10 games in a season over his 5 year career. Malcom Floyd, a declining veteran, being rated 83 ovr just boggles my mind. I cant wait to see how inflated Reggie Wayne's ratings will be.

I'm not an expert and will never claim to be...but first look: Virgil Green is an 82? 20 career catches and 1 TD? He's better off Mychal Rivera?

That one just really pops out to me as "off".

My freaking 80 year old grandma doesn't know anything about football but she could just research Green's career stats and see he clearly isnt worthy of 82 overall. Anyone could do that. Only the best, proven TEs in the league deserve anything near 82 ovr

For anyone interested, here's how the entire AFC stacks up. Not surprisingly it's basically the exact same as how they ended up in the standings last year.

New England - 91
Denver - 89
Indianapolis - 87
Baltimore - 85
Cincinnati - 84
Pittsburgh - 84
Kansas City - 82
San Diego - 82
Miami - 81
Buffalo - 79
Houston - 79
New York Jets - 76
Cleveland - 75
Oakland - 74
Jacksonville - 73
Tennessee - 72

I thought the gap between the Broncos and the rest of the division might be a bit smaller than that. I'll be interested to see how De'Anthony Thomas is rated being that it seems he's a WR now versus a HB last year. Makes me wish they had custom packages even more. Would have liked to see where DJ was rated also being that they hit Berry pretty good compared to last year. Also can't wait to never see that stupid receiver TD stat ever again.

Green's overall has to do with his natural ability (more athletic than Julius Thomas for comparison) and his tremendous blocking over the last few years.

He has potential to be a solid starter in Denver but an 82 ovr is still a HUGE stretch...

Even with athleticism you'd put him on par with a rookie for AWR and there's no way he can have elite catching ratings.

It just jumps out as something that doesn't look right based on his body of work. He could have a decent BASE to start from but I just can't fathom how that one is justified.

He could very well end up as a 95 OVR TE next year and break out with 15 TD's...but at this moment I still feel it's not a rating that fits.

I think he's been overrated because of whos throwing to him (not necessarily seeing that's fair) but two years ago when Julius Thomas was rated in the lower 70's and then had a career year you would have told me I was crazy if I thought he should have been an 82.

# 10 gr18 @ 08/06/15 04:47 PM
Julius Thomas is an 89 but with Bortles throwing to him everyone will likely feel he should be barely an 80.I'm not disputing Green being rated a little high but like an earlier poster said,a tight end that can block and has pretty good hands will typically be rated high unless his awareness is rated like some of the rookies, like below 50.

Orlando Franklin being rated a 90 stood out to me.I don't think Denver would have let him walk so easily if he was worth that.He can run block but there's a reason he was moved from right tackle.

# 11 Jershy88 @ 08/06/15 04:50 PM
Green is a blocking TE/FB...just because he hasn't started more than 10 games does not mean he hasn't been a crucial part of his teams success. I am not a big time Broncos fan or anything, but if you've ever watched any of their games you know that Virgil is worth that rating (or near it).

# 12 The JareBear @ 08/06/15 06:15 PM
Latimer, Ray, Green, and Roby will receive all my attention year one as far as progression. Those guys can all become beasts in the game. Don't sleep on Virgil Green, I think he can be as good as Julius was if not better.

I wonder what they will put Peyton's arm strength at. Brady got a 94 which was way too high IMO. I don't feel Brady's arm is that much stronger than Mannings at this point.

Edit

Virgil Green is definitely overrated. He does have tremendous upside tho. There is a reason why there was as bidding war for him. The physical stats for him should be up there but his route running and catching should have brought that overall down

I laughed out loud, that was hilarious. ONLY THE PROVEN TIGHT ENDS can have an OK OVR rating.

Not following how Peyton Manning is below Andrew Luck. Compare their numbers from last year, or their previous three years and it still appears Manning is lower because of his age; not his performance.

His arm has been getting weaker, his deep ball accuracy has been dropping, he's older, he had two Thomases and Emmanuel Sanders. Andrew Luck had T.Y. Hilton, gimpy Reggie Wayne, Coby Fleener and an offensive line that didn't want him alive.

Andrew Luck is athletically one of the top 5 QB's in the league. Peyton is in the bottom 5.

Athleticism is included in the rating.

That's why Virgil Green is an 82 overall...

"But that's none of my business...."

Sure.

OVR is a # I would like to see eliminated anyways. Maybe they are forecasting Green as the breakout player.
