I like everything they have added to franchise and can't wait to play it. Just a little confused about the player morale a bit still.

It's also possible that Garcia wound up with a -10 to lefties because of an extremely pronounced bad year against lefties, slumping morale, and team performance which would lead to what might have only been a -4/5 drop into one that wound up to be more dramatic (i.e. tried to break out of the slump but he wound up increasing his strikeout rate and might have been removed from games or platooned and removed against lefties which would decrease moral, etc.)

Not likely dear Watson for a couple of reasons...

(1) The devs specifically highlighted the effect and were basically bragging about how big the stat-based progression was, lol. Luis highlighted his batting average vLHP alone and then related it directly to the effect.

(2) Garcia's other attributes actually went up whereas his contact vLHP went way down. One might deduce that poor team performance etc would likewise decrease his other attributes.

From the Feature List at the beginning of the stream:
"We've also made significant improvements to the existing systems that drive the mode:
-Player generation and progression
-Contract Logic
-Call ups/Send downs"
If this really is noticeably improved, that alone makes the game worth the purchase for me. They mentioned things like Speed and Pitcher Velocity as things that guys have from the start, they don't increase over time from a low rating. This is really good to see that speed guys start out fast and pitchers with canon arms throw hard as prospects, rather than having to wait for those attributes to develop.

And in regards to progression, one of my biggest gripes was that even for A rated prospects, usually progression would happen in a way that you couldn't have a Mike Trout or Bryce Harper who were studs by the age of 22. Top prospects progressed way too slowly, or started with such a low initial rating that they wouldn't even make the big leagues until they were in their mid to late 20's. Maybe this has been improved too.

Luis said that only MLB players have player morale and that the minor league players don't. So your minor league players and the players you draft through the years or your franchise won't have a player morale until they join your MLB team?

# 146 dupontflames @ 03/03/16 09:11 PM
So much is looking great with the new game, but I'm really disappointed that the Marlins HR sculpture still isn't right (hasn't been since MLB 12 The Show) and the home/away bullpens at Marlins Park are still switched.

How about that new MadBum model at the 32:55 mark

Oh yeah, looked like they cut his hair in the player model (but not the photo for obvious reasons). Nice catch.

# 149 HustlinOwl @ 03/03/16 09:15 PM
love the future budget screen/page, looking at the contracts they look close. Are they real contracts?

# 150 TheWarmWind @ 03/03/16 09:16 PM
speed and velocity don't progress. Ok, that's more realistic I guess. Except you just made 3 quarters of my pitching prospects and almost all of my position player prospects useless. This would be great if I was starting a new franchise, but as it stands right now between this and player morale my carry over save is ruined.

I'm also confused as to why the #2 spot isn't considered a star spot, or why the #1 is. It'd make a lot more sense if we could have limited assignments that are considered "star" spots that we set ourselves. I mean, poster boy Josh Donaldson bats 2nd, and doesn't Mike Trout too?

Don't know where you guys are getting this "DD got everything and nothing else was touched." There has been a ton of work done in almost every area of the game, we can't work on everything every year.

If your not satisfied with the design choices don't know really what to tell you, but saying Franchise mode got the shaft is just untrue. There's almost all of the new features and changes done this year below. We are very happy with the finished feature set we've worked feverishly to create for The Show 16.

Expanded Stat Tracking
(PS4 & PS3)

We've expanded our stat tracking in a big way, since baseball is really all about the stats. We're adding year-by-year stat totals dating back to the start of every MLB player's career, so you'll be able to see that A-Rod hit .232 all the way back in his 1995 rookie season. In addition to having year-by-year totals, we've more than tripled the amount of career stats that we track. Finally, we've added WAR (Wins Above Replacement), which is currently the most important sabermetric stat in the sport.

Legends Expansion

  • 30 New Legends added in The Show 16! Tony Gwynn, Ryne Sandberg, Reggie Jackson, Rollie Fingers, Joe Morgan, Gary Carter, and many more!

Users who purchased MLB 15 The Show will be able to continue their Franchise and Road to the Show progress in MLB 16 The Show with the Year-to-Year Saves feature. Saves between the two releases will be forward-compatible, meaning you don’t have to worry about starting your Franchise or Road to The Show seasons over!

  • New Leaderboard options
  • The User now has the ability to turn the leaderboards on/off, along with changing the leaderboard type from friends, current leaders and live leaders

  • Bonuses are now listed in the pause menu for the first time. Showing the User’s progression on the bonus along with how many times the bonus has been achieved.

  • Swing info has also been added into the mode.
  • Weekly Prizes
  • This year we’re looking to give both hard goods and digital goods on a weekly basis. The amount of winners is also changing. Each week we are allowing more than one winner per week (roughly 5 to 20 depending on the prizes). Hard goods will still have the rule “one item per cycle”.
  • Digital goods can be achieved multiple times throughout the 16 cycle. Patrick is working on making an “ID badge” for me to use on the admin so we can identify if the User has won a hard good already. Digital goods will be packs, stubs and maybe card specific players for different weeks.

(The ps4 SOTS imports only MP3 files from a USB memory stick. Everything else works the same as the PS3 implementation.)

(PS4 & PS3)
  • 30 New Legends added in The Show 16! Tony Gwynn, Ryne Sandberg, Reggie Jackson, Rollie Fingers, Joe Morgan, Gary Carter, and many more!
  • (25 New Legends available at launch, with 5 more legends being released periodically throughout the season )

Year-to-Year Saves
(PS4 & PS3)

Users who purchased MLB 15 The Show will be able to continue their Franchise and Road to the Show progress in MLB 16 The Show with the Year-to-Year Saves feature. Saves between the two releases will be forward-compatible, meaning you don’t have to worry about starting your Franchise or Road to The Show seasons over!

Challenge of the Week (COTW) 3.0
(PS4 & PS3)
  • New Leaderboard options
  • The User now has the ability to turn the leaderboards on/off, along with changing the leaderboard type from friends, current leaders and live leaders
  • Bonus progression in the Pause menu
  • Bonuses are now listed in the pause menu for the first time. Showing the User’s progression on the bonus along with how many times the bonus has been achieved.
  • New In Game OSDs
  • This year we add some new OSDs. On the opposite side of the batter. An OSD will display pitch counts, hit counts, longest hit, strike, outs, current streak and difficulty level.

Online franchise took a giant leap two years ago. It had many new features then that offline did not get.

The team of devs have been consistent in touching all aspects and modes of the game on cycle.

Put simply, I'm happy with what's been done. Would I like things like non-roster invites and rotating schedules? Of course I would. Is it going to matter when I'm playing the game? No. I'm happy with the additions and more importantly, it's not like this Franchise Mode is at NHL or NBA Live level. It's one of the best around and so I get more worried when things are overhauled rather than make tweaks and minor additions.

And truthfully, the player morale system is way more than a tweak. It can fundamentally change player behaviour both in game and off the field. I'm excited to see how this all plays out.

On behalf of Luis, who's trying to ease your concerns about progression:

Performance-Based Progression is not a one-size fits all system for every player. Every attribute level has an expected stat value associated with it, so the drop you saw with Avisail Garcia was "extreme" because he had a good Con vs L attribute to begin with. You shouldn't worry about the system getting out of hand, since these expected values are updated along with attribute progression. This means Garcia would experience less of a drop if he performed exactly the same the following season.

Here's an example of a guy who hit .177 over 260 ABs versus righties, and not experiencing a single point drop in Con vs R:

Attachment 117131

On the flip side, here's someone hitting .331 versus lefties and only getting a one point increase:

Attachment 117132

In the end, our simulator is going to generate stats that are in line with player attributes the vast majority of the time, but when unusual breakouts/crashes occur, we want to capture them, since this happens in the Majors all the time.

Ramone, Call ups and send downs were listed on the stream but nothing was said. What has been changed?
