EA Sports has continued revealing their Madden NFL 17 player ratings today, as they announce the top 5 outside linebackers in the game. More detailed ratings can be seen in the official blog.

There is always a bias towards pass rush 3-4 OLBs instead of the tackling 4-3 WLB and SLBs. They generate sacks and change games more often therefore get rated higher.

Mack is a great player but I have no problem with Von being ahead of him. I don't understand your thinking on being "much better at stopping the run." That has been one of his strong suits since entering the league. Not sure why you are selling this as a weak part of his game. Plus Von can adequately cover when called upon.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree but I think what Von did in the playoffs probably helped him keep his top spot.

There's a little more to it than just overall sacks. I'm not trying to be "that guy" but not all stat lines are created equal. I also couldn't disagree more with "numbers should be better because he's on a better team." I think there are numerous examples in the league where that logic gets destroyed.

If anything, other players like Ware, Wolfe, and Jackson (Wolfe and Malik got paid) have better numbers because of Von. We have two young guys (Shaq Barrett and Shane Ray) who are explosive pass rushers as well. A lot of that is the Von effect. Definitely helps our secondary too

I think there's a lot of things you gotta look at, not just one regular seasons sack total.

No matter what I say I'm probably gonna come off as a homer, and I probably am a homer, so I admit that.

McPhee plays OLB, DE, and DT. At least he did for us in Baltimore. He deserves to be on this list without a doubt. He's much stronger than the rest of these guys but still has great pass rushing moves.

Clay was good when he was healthy. He was flat out invisible for way too many games last year and I honestly think his best days are behind him.

He went two games without a tackle. That shouldn't be possible for a top 5 linebacker.

Lavonte David not even in the 90s? Where's Thomas Davis? And what's Deandre Levy rated? Maybe next year we can finall separate 3-4 and 4-3 OLBs.

Clay is an OLB again, not ILB. Only reason his sack numbers have been down is due to him playing in coverage so much.

Nearly 2 years of playing inner linebacker, he's not going to be Top 5 just because he used to be good.
