Critically acclaimed franchise to give fans early start to this year’s MyCAREER experience, ability to play collegiate games and more!

2K today announced “The Prelude,” a free downloadable experience for NBA 2K17, the top-rated and top-selling NBA video game simulation series*, which will be available on September 9, 2016. For the first time in NBA 2K history, gamers – both new and old – will get to start their MyCAREER experience prior to the game’s launch on September 20, 2016 on Xbox One and PlayStation®4 computer entertainment systems. Gamers who download “The Prelude” will choose from multiple authentic Division I collegiate programs and have the ability to boost their stock for the NBA Draft. Additionally, “The Prelude” experience will include enhanced MyPlayer personalization through new mobile phone face scan technology via the MyNBA2K Companion App, and an all–new tutorial mode in 2KU, featuring 2016 USA Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski (“Coach K”).

“The Prelude was designed specifically to introduce new fans to our franchise, and give them an introduction to our legendary MyCAREER mode that puts the user at the center of an epic basketball story,” said Greg Thomas, President of Visual Concepts. “Veterans of NBA 2K will also love getting a head start on their MyCAREER, so when the game launches they can be ready to jump in and compete.”

During “The Prelude”, players will watch their draft stock fluctuate dynamically based on their performance across the participation of multiple authentic college games. In true cinematic form, they’ll also catch a glimpse of exclusive MyCAREER scenes through their customized avatar, which include interactions with high school coaches, teammates, and more. Players’ in-game performance during college play will ultimately influence where they are drafted upon entering the league in NBA 2K17.

“The incredible excitement during the first week of NBA 2K16’s launch showed us there was an opportunity to connect with even more fans prior to the formal release of NBA 2K17,” said Alfie Brody, VP of Marketing for NBA 2K. “We think we’ve given our passionate community something special with this year, and can’t wait to see the response from not only existing fans, but new ones as well.”

Included in “The Prelude” is 2KU, a tutorial featuring Coach K, focused on fundamental basketball strategies including pick and roll execution, proper defensive positioning, ball movement, boxing out, court awareness and more. Gamers can also use the MyNBA2K17 iOS and Android companion app to scan their facial likeness into their MyCAREER avatar within minutes. This new mobile phone camera fan scan technology serves as the perfect introduction to the custom experience, as players begin playing MyCAREER. Additionally, after September 16, 2016 gamers will be able to purchase and download playable “all-time great” teams for each of the playable colleges as well as special collegiate MyTeam cards representing legendary players.

The NBA 2K17 Standard Edition will be available in both digital and physical formats for $59.99 on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems, and Windows PC platforms on September 20. The NBA 2K17 Kobe Bryant Legend Edition will be available in digital and physical formats for $79.99 on Xbox One and PlayStation®4 system. Also available for pre-order is the NBA 2K17 Kobe Bryant Legend Edition Gold offering fans the ultimate value at $99.99 with all of the regular NBA 2K17 Legend Edition contents plus bonus items. All fans who pre-order any version of NBA 2K17 will receive their copy at Early Tip-Off four days early, September 16.

Damn... hype confirmed...

I'm loving the balancing factors for our player creations, along with everything. A little worried about the Olympic games implications, if it'll have a hand at scripting your NBA path by making you this prodigy superstar, when it's not about that for some players.

And this is FREE. Thank you 2K. Will bash accordingly at a later time, but thank you!

There is an open shot 3 and open shot mid rating to go along with contested shot mid and contested shot 3.

1. Speed with dribble rating.
2. Shot off dribble mid and three.
3. Open shot mid and three
4. Contested shot mid and three
5. Deadeye mid and three
6. Catch and shoot

If they get that lead pass and manual cut defense under control then this will be as good as it gets for me.

I will never play MyCareer, but it's still super cool.

On the plus side though for everyone, we're getting our hands on the game even earlier than we original thought we would. We went from early October getting our 2K fix, to September 20, to 4 days before that, to a WEEK before that. Can't be mad at that at all. Even if you don't normally play this mode. Just get your 2K on early and call it a day until the 16th or 20th

One thing I took note of is the badges. It looks like you come with certain badges per playstyle. I wonder if you will still be able to get all badges regardless of playstyle, and then if you can fully upgrade said badges no matter the playstyle, interesting.

The attribute groups look mich better! I'm excited for the fact that mid and long range shooting are separated this year.

I can finally make a player in the mold of Kobe/Wade/Jordan again

From the vid it didn't really show body types...it only mentioned bodytypes that MATTER. The only options are from last year. Height, weight, arm length and shoulder width....

Don't think we can create a rotund player....

"Man am I glad I upgraded to new PC hardware last year"

....reading....
"available only on Xbox One and PlayStation 4"

Good trailer 2K.

I'm sure both Oliver Miller fans are sad.

Wow I was really impressed by that trailer. Atmosphere, play styles, body types that matter, more college choices added, USA basketball AND we get to play a week earlier?! Can't get much better than that. We'll finally have a tough decision to make when deciding play styles. I'll definitely spend more time on the park and in pro-am this year than ever before.

I'm hype through the rough, great choice of music to go along with the trailer, never heard it before but it fit perfectly with the moment. The end was the perfect drop the mic moment.

This is really awesome for the guys that like to make multiple players, you'll get to mess around and figure out which you'd like to be your "main" for the year.

Is it September 9th yet?

Hopefully the improved "college" atmosphere will translate to the NBA arenas as well...

Atmosphere was severely lacking in 2K16

I was pretty sure I wasn't going to pre-order this, but then I seen this....I'll be pre-ordering this today!

I'm a PC guy and this doesn't bother me.....online for the pc version is horrendous. Lag, lag and more lag....the abundance of cheaters and hackers. Just terrible...

I would udually buy the ps4 and pc at the same time but this is the first time I'm going to wait for a sale on the pc version. The modding community was gutted by 2k. The guy who created the tool to make modding possible was hired by 2k.

There is a tool but unfortunately I'm not seeing much progress....

This is Perfect, I was just talking to my friend about how they could get Mycareer involved in team USA, figured they would have to go down a Anthony Davis path and after you come out of college you get a invite to play for the squad.
