Music and Madden: A Decade of Tunes

Most people remember Ludacris' Madden 2000 theme which still stands as one of the most memorable intros to a sports video game ever. What people may not realize is that the 2000 theme helped usher in a new era of music in sports gaming. Michael Finch takes a look at Madden's role in presenting music and also asks for your feedback as well!

Eurogamer has posted their hands-on impressions of Skate 2.

"The team's solution is to turn falling down into one facet of the challenge: fling your skater off the top of a bridge, or a building, or down the side of a mountain, and see how much damage you can do to them. Once they're falling, you can explosively launch them off their boards, and make them strike any of a number of inappropriate poses, from a cannonball curl to a flailing spread eagle, in order to maximise the bone-shattering and face-grinding that ensues.     "A couple notes on how this works. The DNA, rosters, and depth chart of the teams for that specific game are used. The starting lineups will match the starting lineups from the game and if a player was injured at the time they will not be available to use in the game. What it won’t do is attempt to replicate what happened in real life. It isn’t as though a player that fouled out will foul out because of that in the Rewind game."

    "Here is another set of screenshots and highlight videos via EA Sports World for NBA Live 09. This is easily the best highlight presentation for any game to use the feature thus far. Once you get comfortable with how to use the markers and get into editing each section it is quite easy. You really want to have a vision for your highlight before even producing it. With the ability to use any of the 10 set camera angles or the free floating camera which can be placed anywhere with any zoom there is a lot of potential for creativity. Being able to alter the speed makes it even better. Now that the highlights include sound it adds a lot to them and in the future we’ll likely see progression to something more akin of a highlight reel including the addition of music."

Free Update To Front Office Football 2007 Released With 2008 Rosters, Issue Fixes

Jim Gindin at Solecismic Software today announced a free update to FOF2K7. The game now includes full 2008 NFL rosters, and several outstanding issues were addressed.

Madden's online modes could learn a lot from games like SOCOM. Imagine a Madden online mode where teamwork was a hugely important key to winning with your team online. David Johnson has, and shows us some important lessons Madden could learn from SOCOM.
