Following up my previous one of these, I just thought I'd do some more (There are plenty across the world of sports)

Nolan Ryan's 7 no-hitters

Not much explanation required here I hope. Most pitchers would be happy with 1 no-hitter in their career, but 7 is madness. Cy Young "only" got 4. He'll hold this record at least as long as he holds the strikeout record, probably longer. You could come back in 200 years time and he'll still have this record.

Just about ... Read More

Most people know most of the rules of their favourite sport, but there are always one or two things that don't get used too often. This post celebrates those rules that aren't used that often.

The back pass rule - Soccer

Most people probably don't even know this exists, it's a fairly obscure rule, but it's the reason I made this post, it was used in an EPL game today between Aston Villa and Wigan. From wikipedia, "These clauses prohibit the goalkeeper from intentionally ... Read More

This will be a fairly short post, partly because I'm posting it from college, and partly because there's only 2 people I can really talk about. For the purposes of this, I'm ignoring Switch hitting in baseball because compared to these 2 it's fairly common (although hitting a home run from both sides of the plate in one game is one hell of a feat).

Ronnie O'sullivan - Snooker
He is one of the only snooker players who can play consistently well both both hands. In 1995, when he ... Read More

Like I mentioned in my previous blog post, there is only one career record that I consider truly unbeatable, and it might surprise you. Most of these would take some beating, but I think all but the first are just about beatable.

Don Bradman's career average of 99.94 in test cricket

In cricket your batting average is worked out by the number of runs you score divided by the number of times you are out, so being not out in a game really helps your average. Say you batted ... Read More

There are only 2 single game feats in sport (and maybe 1 career record) that I consider truly unbreakable. They are the first 2 on this list. One of them would require a set of fairly unique circumstances, a lot of luck and a guy who was massively talented, the other would require certifiable insanity, a HUGE amount of luck, and a guy who was both insane and hugely talented.

Aside from these 2 there are various other feats that could be called "nearly unbreakable". I'm only going to ... Read More

I first posted this just after Sammy Baugh died, he was probably the most versatile player ever to play in the NFL.

He once led the league in Passing yards, punting avg, and Defensive interceptions all in one season.

In the 2007 season, the leaders in those three categories were: Tom Brady, Shane Lechler and Antonio Comartie. Now, imagine one player who was as good as all of them. F-cking madness. If it had never happened and I made that up, you'd think I was insane (maybe ... Read More

Not just blowouts, although most of them are, but scores that you look at and think "is that a typo":

Manchester United 9 - 0 Ipswich Town - EPL 4th March 1995

This game featured a record margin of victory in the premier league, and until recently, a record for total number of goals. Andy Cole scored 5 of the goals for Man U, which is also a record.

Portsmouth 7 - 4 Reading - EPL 29th September 2007

This is the game that beat the above one for ... Read More
