The Army Ruined Video games for me!
Posted on December 2, 2008 at 01:20 AM.
Joining the Army has ruined Military shooters for me. When ever I play a Shooter i have to Analyze it and think of all of the stuff it got wrong.

Whenever I played Rainbow Six Vegas, I couldnt get past the Size of the ACOG, It was too big. Also, Where the hell did a any terrorist Organization recruit the 2000+ Terrorist to Attack Las Vegas? In COD 4 The Opening Marine Mission is a typical Army Ranger Mission. They Conducted a Cordon and Search Ranger bread and Butter. Marine Force Recon does not typically do that mission in a hot War zone. Also in COD 4- The M-16 Is Primarily a single shot weapon, I have never seen or heard of someone using the Burst shot.

Movies and TV are Actually worse though, When ever I see people in uniform i automatically Zero in on what is wrong with their uniform. Watching the New Batman drove me crazy, Seriously, The Army would not let a boatload of Civilians make a decision.

Not all Movies are bad though, Black Hawk Down did a excellent job.

Interesting.

I'm a movie watcher that has a hard time shutting off his brain. When I see clear flaws they bug me. The Dark Knight had a ton of those moments that ruined the movie for me.

Interesting stuff. I guess when we have first-hand knowledge of the subjects involved in videogames, we tend to analyze and critique them a bit more. Being a Royals fan, I always notice and take issue with all of the things missing/incorrect about Kauffman Stadium when playing baseball videogames.

I'm no military man, but that situation in Dark Knight bothered me as well. Just didn't seem believable at all.

I don't think the army would have brought a ton of criminals on board a ship that wasn't checked first either (bombs below deck). It was a cheap and artificial way to create an emotional scene that most people bought hook, line and sinker.

It's interesting that you discussed this because as a game maker I rarely play games the way I used to. I used to buy the game, play the hell out of it and then file it away as a fan or *****. Now I evaluate each and every screen or privately bitch about the production values as I'm playing. What was a perfectly fine game before I worked in this industry may now catch dust if I notice some pretty minor issues.
