Cleveland OH,

If tonight was any indication of what to expect this season from the Cavs look out Cavs fans it will be a joyous June for you. The Cavs were on fire in every aspect of the game in their 108-71 home opener win over the Miami Heat.

The Cavs run the heat out of the gym firing away and connecting at a very high percentage from the three point line and when the did not do that the ran and passed their way to easy transition buckets frustrating the Heat defensively. They also played sweltering defense not making a lot of mistakes.

"This is the way we're supposed to play and the way I expect to see us play on a nightly basis". said Cavaliers head coach David Blatt "We dominated on offense not truing the ball over at an alarming rate and created all kinds of scoring opportunities for ourselves. If we do this all the time we will be in great shape".

Kyrie Irving had another break out game for himself scoring 16 points with 6 assists and grabbing 9 rebounds. "I really came into my zone tonight. I may not have scored a lot of points but I didn't need to do that. I have confidence in my teammates and I know if I get them involved they will have me covered".

Irving's performance also drew rave reviews from LeBron James. "I can't say enough about how Kyrie played tonight. He was our floor general and really made some great contributions and gave us a chance to succeed and that's all I can ask of him".

This was a great team win in general for the Cavs how good were they? They were 70% from 3 point range and shot the same percentage from the floor overall. They also scored 16 points in transition compared to only 2 for Miami. The biggiest contribution came from the bench as they mustered 31 points off the bench."That's huge for us. When we score like that off the bench you're simply not going to beat us". Blatt said commenting on the bench scoring.

Other contributions came from J.R. Smith 17 points, Kevin Love 14, LeBron James 20, Richard Jefferson 11, and Timofey Mozgov 10. It was what championship teams need and that's what the Cavs got tonight.

The Cavs now stand at 2-1 on the year tied with the Milwaukee Bucks for 1st place in the Central Division. All in all a good start to the new campaign. The next week will see the Cavs travel to Philly to take on the 76'ers before hosting the Knicks and 76'ers and ending the week with a Sunday afternoon contest vs the Indiana Pacers at home.

More early Injuries

The Cavs early season injury bug continues as it would seem they have lost Anderson Varejeo for 4-6 weeks with s shoulder injury.

Memphis, TN- After a terribly disappointing season opening loss to the Chicago Bulls the Cavs came in to tonight's game versus the Memphis Grizzles on a mission. The mission was not only to get their first win, they also wanted to show the rest of the basketball world that the game versus the Bulls was not a for telling of let down to come. The Cavs came out victorious putting the rest of the league on notice that they will be strong once again this season.

The Cavs sat pretty comfortably with a 23-16 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Grizzles would have none of it coming back strong the in the second quarter and actually took a 49-45 lead into half time. That lead would quickly be vaporized by the Cavs in the third quarter as the two team would trade blows until mid way through the quarter and then LeBron James quickly took over and the Cavs slowly pulled away until finally burying the Grizzles when Kevin Love hit a three pointer capping his big scoring night, one that proved to be the fatal blow. Love finish the night with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assits.

"I love the way our guys battled tonight" Love said "It was a big second half for us and we found a way to just keep pouring it on. A great way to get out first win".

While he was glad to get the win David Blatt still viewed it with a critical eye. "We got the win tonight and it was a good win, but I still think we are a little sloppy and we have to continue to work to clean that up. The earlier we do that the easier it will be for all of us going forward". "Our tempo is not where we need it to be, I really think we are over thinking things on offense, I know for a fact we are not showing enough patience on the offensive side, and we have to work on our transition game both offensively and defensively".

In what might be surprising to some LeBron James actually agreed with Blatt " Our transition game is awful right now" said James "We have to clean it up. Where other teams our getting baskets in their transition we are turning the ball over that was a big issue for us against Chicago too and it really cost us and it could have tonight also except it didn't".

LeBron said besides the miscues what was important was the team got the win. "Look at the end of the day it's all about improvement and getting better. It always feels good to get a victory and the guys deserved this one tonight. We were not going to let this one get away from us and we did not so credit to all the guys but just know that we can still get better and that's what our focus is going to have to be right now".

The 85-74 victory puts the Cavs at .500 with a 1-1 record with the day off tomorrow and then the home opener versus the Miami Heat on Friday night at the Q.

Injury Report:

We told you in the preview that Richard Jefferson was nursing a sore ankle and was day to day and uncertain if he would play. Well he did hitting a crucial three pointer. He said that he as well as the teams medical staff and coaching staff will make his status day to day until it feels better and also said there are no plans to go on the DL and will play through it as much as possible.

Mo Williams left the game with a wrist injury and will be day to day however it does not appear to be a very big deal. Both team trainer Max Benton and head coach David Blatt said they do not expect him to miss anytime and they expect him to play through it. Williams even echoed the same after the game "It hurts but I'm alright, I'm not going to miss anytime and I'm definitely playing on Friday". Williams said.

James Qoutables:

Here is what James had to say on the what the best part of the win was:

That it was a total team when. I took over when I needed but Kevin and Kyrie both steeped up and I was very happy for Mozgov he was huge for us tonight. We need him to keep it up because a big part of our success rides on him".

On starting off 1-1:

"You guys know me I'm a competitor and I would rather be starting off 2-0. These guys know this is a grind and a fight and that teams are going to give us the very best night in and night out so I'm going through this with them. I'm not going to lie though 2-0 sounds a lot better then 1-1.

On injuries:

"A lot of us are feeling banged up right now. We just played to highly competitive highly physical games back to back so your going to feel that no matter where you are in your career I don't care what anyone says".

On seeing Miami on Friday night:

On the court it's going to be a war. You guys know that I spent time playing with them and establishing friendships so it will be great to see them and we will hang out before and afterwards but when I am on the court I expect them to give us their best and us to give them their best. It should be fun though I look forward to it.

Game Notes
The Cavs did have a shoot around but because the team did not arrive in Memphis until early Wednesday morning the team decided to hold off until 3 p.m. They stayed at the arena until warm up's.
Due to the late arrival none of the players had media availability after shoot around.
David Blatt kept his comments short the only thing he said of note was that he was looking for a better response to the team's loss at Chicago last night and that expected a good performance tonight.
Injury notes:
The injury bug has struck the Cavaliers already as Richard Jefferson left last night's game with a sore ankle when he triped on his way back up court after a Derek Rose layup. He did not appear to be hurt as he got back up and hit a three pointer but according to Blatt complainined after he left the game. He did not return and is listed as day to day. Blatt was not sure if he will play tonight it just depends on how Jefferson feels.

Chicago, Ill- When you lose a playoff series to a team that by all accounts you were supposed to beat revenge is imeadeatly on the mind of that team from the front office, to the players, and the fans. That's exactly what the Chicago Bulls achieved versus the Cavs in the season opener as they dominated the Cavs. It seemed that the Bulls did everything right, crisp passing, excellent shot selection, high volume scoring, good defense you name it the Bulls did it all in their 84-60 victory over the Cavs.

The funny thing is dispite their best player Derek Rose not having his best night the team still stepped up around him and picked him up, and dispite that he would have an "off night" Rose still managed double digit points posting a line of 14 points 4 rebounds 12 assits, and also had 2 steals and 2 blocked shots to go along with it. "It may not have been my best night scoring but I was able to get my teammates involved and play great defense. Most importantly we got the win and it's always good to beat Cleveland since they're our division rivals".

In the visiting locker room while not deflated the mood was not exactly upbeat. Head Coach David Blatt did not have much to say to the media most likely knowing that he will be heavily scrutinized for the teams play this year. LeBron James however was not shy about how he felt. "We just were not good at all this evening and that's all there is to say about this one on our part".

James was also not shy about the team playing like this at all this season if it's to win a championship. "Like I told the guys in the locker room afterwards we can't play like this at all this year. It's unacceptable if we're going to win a championship".

While James had some critizim for his teammate he was willing to give credit where it was due. "Let's not take anything away from Chicago they played their tails off and came out and beat us tonight. They deserve the victory, we didn't and that's all I can really say".

Even though there were not many positives for the Cavs LeBron was able to give something of a silver lining. "There are 81 games left in the season and we will play them as hard as we can. There will be losses but hopefully not as embarrassing as tonight was. The good news is we have another opportunity to get back out on the court tomorrow night and make amends for our loss tonight. We're resilient, we know we have a task at hand, and we will arise to the occasion I can tell you that much"!

The Cavs do not have much time to rest or even think about this loss as they have to fly tom Memphis to take on the Grizzles tomorrow night.

Cleveland OH- A new day has dawned for the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field as a promising young new general manager is taking over the club, and he has everyone around the league talking. Greg Cooksey has been named the new general manager for the Cleveland Indians. He brings a fresh new out look, along with youthfulness, determination, and will.

Cleveland Indians owner Paul Dolan glemed with delight during the press conference suggesting they may have found a diamond in the ruff with Cooksey. Here are some of the highlights from the press conference.

Cooksey on Landing the general manager job:

This really is a dream come true for me. I grow up 30 minutes west of the downtown area and have been to several games before in my life but never dreamed that I would work here as an employee of the Cleveland Indians. This is awesome.

Cooksey on The challenge that lies ahead of him:
It's going to be a huge challenge I won't lie about that. However hard work and smart through decions will be our key focus as far as getting this team back on track.

On the Status of manager Terry Francona:
Terry's job will be safe. I love Terry as a manager and I think he is the one to get us where we want to be which is ultimately a World Series Champion.

On what he envisions the on field product to be:

Ideally I would like to build the team in the same mold Theo Epstien built the Boston Red Sox of the mid 2000's and what he's now doing in Chicago with the Cubs. If we do this right there is no reason why we can't mirror those teams.

On the tactics he will employ to build the team:

What I would like the fans to know is that there is no one way we will look to build. If we can spend we will spend, if it's through a trade we will trade, if it's through a better stronger scouting staff and player development we will do it that way. There are a variety of ways to build the team and we will not use one over the other.

On his motivation:

Simple this is where I am from, I have been through the heart ace with the rest of the fans and I want to be the one to end it. You know some people will try to suggest that there are no other fans in cities like Buffalo or Washington D.C., or even a place like Detroit that would cherish a championship more then any other fanbase and I respectfully disagree. I think Cleveland is the city that would cherish it best because I've been here for the near misses, they've been part of my life too and I would cherish a championship as much as the next person.

Cooksey certainly said all the right things and while there are still some serious questions Cooksey said that he is up to the challenge. Like he said no gaurentees can be made, but he is banking on being the one to end Cleveland's professional sports championship drought and knows the benefits of doing so. Can he do it? Time will tell.

Next Time:

It's opening night and the Tribe is on display for the first time under the direction of Cooksey.

It's been a while since I have been able to do this but starting this week I will begin a new story using Out Of The Park baseball and taking over as GM of the Cleveland Indians. I will be posting as much as possible and taking multiple story angles as the seasons come and go.

I will mostly be playing the divisional games but as I simulate the season and important games start to come along the way I will post about them. So come along on a great journey to Tribe Land as I build the Cleveland Indians into a potential World Series champion year in and year out. Well that's the goal anyway. Welcome to Tribe Land!

The Cleveland Browns lead by coach Lovie Smith came up just short of a draft Champions championship this afternoon losing to the New York Jets in the finally by a final score of 17-14.
This was a team built with a stud wide receiving core Dez Bryant, Steve Smith, and DeAndre Hopkins, Colby Fleener at TE and Matt Forte as the RB, and Cam Newton as the QB.
The defense featured Chris Long, Haloti Ngata, and Jason Taylor upfront. Rolando Mclain at linebacker, Brandon Flowers and Dominic Rodgers-Cromarti at CB.
The team shutout The San Diego Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs in the first two rounds and came oh so close in the championship game vs the Jets.

The Browns fell behind early when Adrian Peterson scored on a run from the goal line but tied things up just before halftime when Cam Newton found Dez Bryant in the endzone for a five yard TD pass. It looked like the Browns had taken control of the game in the fourth quarter when Newton hit DeAndre Hopkins in the end zone for a ten yard TD pass then on the second play of the Jets next drive Brandon Flowers picked of a pass from Russell Wilson that was intended for Andre Johnson. That's when things changed big time.

With 1:55 up 14-7 and the Jets with only one time out the Browns tried to put things away with Forte and the run game, only they were unable to do so. After three failed attempts to pick up a first down on the ground with Forte, Newton threw a pick of his own on fourth down. Wilson then hooked
up with Andre Johnson to tie the game at 14 all with 1:25 remaining.

On the ensuing drive the Newton once again threw an int looking for DeAndre Hopkins and it would cost the Browns the championship. Wilson would hook up with Andre Johnson on two plays in which he out mussled CB Brandon Flowers to make huge receptions and lead to a Jets field goal as time ran off the clock and the Jets defeated the Browns 17-14.

It was a bitter ending for a team the for the most part dominated in all phases of the tournament. However it was one of the best teams I have ever built in this mode.

We will see what happens for the next team I build.

Toronto- The Tribe had their struggles vs R.A. Dickey and the new look Blue Jays today. However, they keep themselves in it long enough to have a chance to come out victors at then end of a brutal fight.

The Indians were the first to threaten in the top of the third inning with Jason Kipnis on first and none out, then Mark Reynolds hit into a double play. Drew Stubbs and Micheal Bourn both followed with singles but Micheal Brantley flew out to end the tribes half of the inning.

The bottom of the third was a nightmare of sorts for both the Indians and for Masterson. Masterson began the inning by walking Cody Rasmus then struck out J.P. Arencibia. Masterson had a scary moment as a line drive off the bat of Jose Reyes hit him on the right knee advancing Rasmus to third. Following that Emilio Bonifacio and Jose Bautista singled to right scoring Rasmus and Reyes and the Blue Jays lead 2-0. Masterson responded by striking out Edwin Encarnacion and Adam Lind to end the third.

The Indians finally got on the board in the top of the sixth when Carlos Santana hit into a fielders choice scoring Micheal Bourn from third base that cut the Blue Jays lead to 2-1. After giving up a double to Emilio Bonifacio and a single to Edwin Encarnacion, Masterson was replaced. Nick Hagadone came in to the game and struck Adam Lind out, then Melky Cabrera hit a ball on the ground that had inning ending double play written all over it, but Tribe shortstop Asrubal Cabrera was unable to make the throw get Cabrera out at first and Bonifacio making it a 3-1 Blue Jays lead. Hagadone struck out Brett Lawrie to end the sixth.

Matt Albers who the Indians got in the Shin So Choo trade in the off season from Arizona along with reliever Brian Shaw and starter Trevor Bauer came in to pitch scoreless seventh and eight innings.

The Indians finally broke through in the ninth as Lonnie Chisenhall and Jason Kipnis both singled off Blue Jays closer Casey Janseen to begin the inning. They both advanced when Asdrubal Cabrera sacrificed them into scoring position on a bouncing ball to third that Encarnacion made a nice bare handed play to throw Cabrera out at first. Then came the big blow. Mark Reynolds who previously hit into two rally killing double plays and struck out, took a 1-2 fastball Janssen hung out over the middle of the plate deep over the center field wall and the Indians had a 4-3 lead.

Indians closer Chris Perez came on in the bottom of the ninth and made short work of the Blue Jays striking out Lawrie and Rasmus then getting Macier Isturiz who was pinch hitting for J.P. Arencibia to fly out in foul territory on the third base side.

The Indians begin the season 1-0. Matt Albers got the win. Chris Perez gets save number one of the season. The Blue Jays will start the season 0-1. Casey Janssen gets the lose and a blown save. Both starters Justin Masterson and R.A. Dickey receive no decisions.

Well, they way the Blue Jackets started this week you would have thought they were ready to be Stanley Cup contenders. However, after falling behind early in most of the games this week we are starting to see they this season may not be a great one. Here is how things played out this week.

OCT 13

Blue Jackets 4 Chicago Blackhawks 3

The Jackets were'nt intimidated by the hawks at all and infact looked like they just might be okay in thier first game with Rick Nash. A late goal from Derrick Brassard was needed to break a 3-3 tie, but the Jackets pulled out the victory. It was a great way to start the season.

OCT 16

Minnesota Wild 6 Columbus Blue Jackets 2

The Blue Jackets fell behind early and were over matched most of the game by the Wild. The Jackets offense also fell prey to a great night from Wild goal keeper Nicohlas Backstrum. The Blue Jackets did get goals from RJ Umburger his second of the year, and James Wisnieski scored his first goal of the year, but the story was the Blue Jackets could not keep up with the aggresive play of the Wild.

OCT 18

Toronto Maple Leafs 4 Columbus Blue Jackets 2

Another slow start cost the Blue Jackets dispite fighting hard and goals from Both RJ Umburger and Kristian Huselius. It was the first of a back to back stretch for the Jackets.

Oct 19

Vancover Canucks 6 Columbus Blue Jackets 5

Head coach Todd Richards gave his net-minder Steve Mason the night off seeing as this was the teams second of two straight games but perhaps he should have reconsidered. Back goalie Sergi Boborovsky just was not good giving up three goals in the first period and one early in the second before the Jackets could even get on the board. The Jackets would fight back getting a hat trick from Kristian Huselius. Vinny Prospol and James Wisniewski also scored goals but the back breaker came with 1:12 left in regulation when Ryan Kesler out skated the Blue Jackets defense and sent a slap shot past Boborovsky to break a 5-5 tie. The Jackets are 0-2 to start their first home stand of the season.

THE WEEK AHEAD

The home stand continues this week as the Blue Jackets will play host to Detroit on Tuesday, Minnesota on Thursday, and end the week with a trip to Carolina to play the Hurricains on Sunday. They need some wins if they hope to not fall too far behind early in the Central division standings.
