Who will be the next MMA legend ?

You know in every sport, when a legend retires or his skill starts to decline, people always ask if there will ever be another person like him. They did the same thing with Ali, same thing with Jordan, etc.

So lets apply this to the world of MMA. Will there ever be another Fedor ? Another Crocop ? A person whose kicks were so deadly he use to end fights simply by kicking guys in the leg.

Or another Matt Hughes ? A guy who dominated his division for years with only his superior wrestling ? Yeah eventually he learned a little stand up and a few submissions. But 98% of his wins come from wrestling skills only.

Will there ever be another Royce Gracie ? A guy who don't look dangerous, kind of under sized looking but can submit anybody. From the looks of things, Demian Maia could be that person, keyword being "could" with his superior BJJ skills. BJ Penn could have been and many thought he would be that person. However BJ Penn's lack of focus and discipline kept him from doing that.

Sure there are many up and comers in the MMA world. But who out of them do you think can do it over the long haul. Anderson Silva and GSP currently about the only 2 I think can do it.

Which is to be dominant in their division for the next 3 or 5 years. Especially GSP since he is younger then Silva.

Me and a buddy were just discussing this and the point he made was the speed with which a guy drops off in MMA once someone exploits a weakness. So in relation to that concept and the growth of the awareness of the sport it might be hard to repeat that kind of dominance ever again.

I don't think there will ever be another dominant fighter who specializes in one thing anymore because of how well-rounded the sport has become. Most of the top fighters in the world now are both good standing and on the ground. Cross training has become a requirement for survival.

#1 LW Shinya Aoki is a grappling magician with no form of stand up, but even he went to Thailand to work on his standup not too long ago.
