Batman Arkham Asylum

So initially I wasn't planning on buying Batman. I seen the trailers for it and thought hmmm nice CG stuff. Seen it on Gametrailers for their review and thought hmmmm ok. Was in Walmart and seen people playing it and thought wow these graphics look good.

I thought about it some more and bought it. Pleasantly surprise with this game. To me this is what a 360 or PS3 game should look like. Graphically I give this game a 10. Because from the detail in the character faces, lips moving while characters talking, the detail in the environment is just plain awesome. Sound wise this game is very good as well.

Anyway on to the game. This whole entire game takes place on an island. Now initially I was thinking this will make for a short game. But NOOOOOOOOOOO. This island is huge with huge buildings to investigate and explore.

Now you might be wondering what is the purpose of this game ? Plain and simple, to capture the Joker, Batman's # 1 arch enemy. Not an easy task considering they have a lot of Batman's enemys in this game from the comic books and animated series.

So you explore, investigate and fight your way through this huge island trying to catch the Joker. Batman has his usual weapons and gadgets to help you acheive this. In the beginning you only have the batarang, but as you progress you unlock more gadgets.

The environment is huge, even indoors they have 100 ft high ceilings in most places. So there is plenty of room to climb and jump off things. The coolest feature of this game is the combo system.

No combo is the same. They are all different depending on the situation, angle and what buttons you press. Which you know makes for a good game because it wont be repititve. And to top it all off, at the end of a combo the camera zooms in on the action and go in slow motion for you can see every detail of that knock out blow.

So what does this game plays like you might ask ??? Kind of like Bioshock, Tomb Raider, Metroid, Syphon Filter and Tekken rolled into one.

The enemies range from weak to strong. The bosses are more of a strategy to beat then over all strength. Don't get me wrong the bosses are not weak, most can kill you with one or two hits. However in this game, it is not about brute force all the time. Most of the time it is about using strategy and your surroundings to defeat your enemy.

That is something to keep in mind while playing this game. You try to go punch and kick happy in this game and you won't make it very far. And overall you will make the game much harder then it need to be. Direct approach is not always the best approach.

Playing straight through, main story line only on normal will take your average person maybe 15 to 25 hours to beat. Which is a good amount of time. Most comic book based games like Spider Man, X Men or GI Joe only have around 8 or less hours of game play, especially the Spider Man games.

This game is a must buy. When it comes to Game of The Year, this game is in the running. I can honestly say, if Modern Warfare 2 don't live up to the hype, Batman will be game of the year.

I find it funny you initially weren't hyped about the game and yet still have gotten to play it while in the meantime I've been foaming at the mouth since I saw the first trailer some months ago and still haven't played anything but the demo. Comic fans like myself didn't sleep on this game one bit, Mark Hamill as the Joker, I knew they were going to be faithful to the franchise when I read that. I just wish they had more villians, The Riddler, Catwomen and Scarecrow, etc. or are they in the game and I haven't seen them yet because they're near the end of something?

Yeah, I boutght Batman:AA this past Friday and I haven't been able to put it down. I'ts a ton of stuff to do. Just the Riddlers riddles will keep you busy for hours. This game is so good i haven't played Madden 10 all weekend. I know this is a sports game site but it would be a crime for any gamer not to play this game. Batman AA= Success.

I beat the story mode in 3 sittings but it was stilll amazing. I haven't touched the challenge rooms yet, I figure I'll give those a shot and then maybe I'll be itching to play story mode again.

I was really excited for this game originally but I didn't see how 1 button fighting was going to be good at all.. in a word awesome!
