Phillies Lose 2nd Straight Series on Rd in FLA.

Gm1.

Florida, currently last in the NL East, dealt Philly a crushing defeat to take gm 1 one of this series. After another disappointing performance by Phillies ace Cole Hamels, which saw the Brewers take a hm series from the Phillies. Brett Myers took the ball in Florida looking to get his team back on track, and pitch them to a win.

Myers however would share the same fate as Hamels the day prior, lasting only one more inning, and also giving up 10 hits allowing Florida to score 5 earned runs: 1 in the 2nd, 3rd, 7th, and a 3R 5th. Ricky Nolasco was pitching a good game, but was pulled allowing 4 runs in the B8th w/ no outs. The FLA bullpen would close the door on Philly in the 8th, halting any further rally to tie or take the lead in what was already a BIG inning.

With the game in reach now, Philly brought in Ryan Madson to pitch the B8th and hold the Marlins. At least that was the plan. In Madson's 2 thirds of an inning he managed to give up 6H for 4ERs, the biggest blow being a 3R HR by Cody Ross. Florida would go up 12-5 and that would be the final.

Gm2.

After a 7R loss, Philadelphia sent Joe Blanton to the hill looking to draw even w/ FLA, and draw even they did.

Blanton would continue his consistently good pitching. Allowing only 3ERs on 7Hs through 6 IPs; the 3 FLA runs coming from 3 solo HRs. However, he would be very much in a duel w/ Florida's Josh Johnson - who's team had spotted him a 3-0 lead through 5 innings. Johnson had put the clamps down on Philly through 5 innings, striking out 6, and not allowing a hit. It was in the 6th where Philly would get to him. Johnson would walk Rollins on 6 pitches, and Rollins was able to then steal 2nd. Victorino would advance Rollins to 3rd, and Chase Utley got a slow grounder to short - which gave Hanley no play at hm, and Rollins scored Philly's 1st run. Next up was Howard who Johnson issued a walk to after a lengthy AB, but Werth couldn't extend the inning further.

After a marvelous peformance, and a high pitch count, Johnson was pulled in the B6th for a PH. Florida would get a run across in the B7th after Scott Eyre allowed a 1B and then a bases clearing 2B; FLA 4-1. This didn't stop Philly though as they exploded for a 6R T8th after 4 2Bs, and a 2r HR by Ryan Howard; PHI 7-5. Dave Borkowski would pitch a scoreless/hitless B8th striking out 1. Philly would add an additional run in the T9th and take a 8-4 lead. Chad Durbin came int to pitch the 9th, and the first batter he faced, Hanley Ramirez, took him deep for FLA's 4th HR of the game, but Durbin would settle down and not allow another run. Philly wins 8-5.

Gm3.

Philadelphia starting pitching was roughed up again, as Jamie Moyer was tagged for 5ERs on 8H in 4 1/3 innings pitched.

Hanley got FLA started off w/ a leadoff HR off Moyer, which came on a 3-1 count and a cutter that got too much of the plate.

Fast forward to 5th and the Phillies climbed back into the lead after getting 4 runs across; PHI 6-5. After JA Happ came on in relief of Moyer in the B 4th w/ one out. He would shut the door on FLA over 3.2 innings pitched, allowing only one hit. With Philly holding onto a slim lead, Happ got into a jam in the B7th w/ 2 out, and Chad Durbin came in to relieve Happ and face Hanley.

Working his sinker, Durbin was able to get Hanley to ground out for the final out of the inning and hold the lead. With Victorino leading off the inning Philly had a perfect opportunity to add some insurance runs, but left-handed reliever Taylor Tankersley would shut the door on the Phillies in the T8th, and Philly would go into the B8th w/ still a 1r lead. Since Madson had struggled in a setup appearance already w/ FLA, Chad Durbin stayed in to pitch the 8th. This proved to be a mistake, as he was hit left and right giving up 4H leading to 3 earned runs.

Matt Lindstrom closed the game for the Marlins, and Florida took their 1st hm series of the year beating Philadelphia 8-6; who lost their 2nd straight series.
