Former Tennessee quarterback Casey Clausen has taken the offensive coordinator position at Coastal Carolina. He has accepted a one-year contract where he will attempt to translate his success as high school coach in California to the college game.

His task is to help CCU head coach Jamey Chadwell, a Tennessee-native, turn Coastal Carolina into a Sun Belt conference contender. Clausen will bring the Air Raid offense to Conway, SC. His challenge will be taking a team with only five wide receivers and a roster built for more of a spread option attack and turn it into a pass-heavy attack.

Bryce Carpenter, the junior project to start at quarterback, has said he's excited about the prospect of throwing the ball all over the field and looks forward to the challenge. His primary target will be junior Jaivon Heileigh. Clausen is yet to commmit publicly to any personnel decisions, but the lack of depth at receiver will likely mean he will have to include tight ends such as junior Isaiah Likely into the passing game as well.

The Chanticleers schedule will be tough, especially early in the season. They open the season with three road games, with two SEC opponents (South Carolina and Tennessee) sandwiched around a trip to Eastern Michigan. Coastal Carolina finally comes home to take on Kansas before beginning Sun Belt play.
