Giants 41, Buccaneers 34: In Eli We Trust
Posted on September 18, 2012 at 08:57 PM.
We’ve all seen this story before. The Giants start off slowly, Eli throws a pick or two (or in this case, three) and the defense isn’t doing much to help. Miraculously, however, the Giants still manage to stay withing striking distance, never behind by more than two or three scores.

We’re all yelling, cursing, in disbelief that the Giants could perform at such a low level, but deep down we know that the fourth quarter awaits, and with it the little switch that goes on inside Eli Manning’s head. Never have we seen a performance that exemplifies Eli’s bounce-back ability and clutch gene more perfectly than this Sunday. In the fourth quarter, the reigning Super Bowl MVP completed 8 of 14 passes for 243 yards and 2 TDs. Those yardage and TD totals would serve as a solid performance for most Quarterbacks in an entire game. He completed passes of 80, 33 and 50 yards on three consecutive drives and was not sacked a single time all game. Eli once again silenced the critics with nothing short of pure magic.

Of course, Eli couldn’t have pulled off this magic trick without the help of his two assistants, Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz. The former recorded 199 yards and 1 TD on essentially one good foot and one personal bodyguard named Aqib Talib who was more than a little touchy-feely. The latter exploded down the sideline for an 80-yard Touchdown which sparked the Big Blue comeback. Both players proved to be too much for the Tampa Bay defensive backs, consistently outworking the defenders for jump balls and at the line of scrimmage.
