Three Things I wish I knew about NCAA Football 14 Around Three Days Ago... Stuck
Posted on July 8, 2013 at 06:18 PM.

When I downloaded the early release of NCAA Football 14 this year, I was quite a bit more excited than usual about playing this year's game thanks to the demo which left me enthusiastic about this year's title.

However, the folks at EA had a cruel trick planned for me: this wasn't the same NCAA I'm used to, and if you make the same mistakes I did when you pick up your copy tomorrow, you'll find that truth out the hard way too.

This year's game has a few key differences which you need to be aware of before you jump in. Yes the game is good, but it's also different. Here are three things I wished I knew three days ago:

1)Recruiting is hard. The simplification of recruiting has left me bumfuzzled, bedazzled, and befuddled. I find myself second guessing what point total to assign to a recruit, when to go all in on someone, and when to back off. Seriously, the cerebral aspect of recruiting has left my brain spinning in circles wondering what the heck just happened. Is that up? Or down? What NCAA's recruiting will do to you is make you second guess every click of your thumb and whether having a recruit visit that early was really worth it. It's really not fair...and that's all before you get to the offseason with 8 targets. 'Good luck.'

2)The Coordinator Camera is Not A Fix All. After the demo, I couldn't help but praise the coordinator camera -- it felt like a revolution in how we play EA Football. But after a few games, I can say the emperor indeed has no clothes. Coordinator cam is a great new view, but I've noticed some FPS hiccups and the angle gets quite uncomfortable and unwieldy close to the goal line. Just say no to coordinator cam unless a fix is brought in.

3)The new run moves will make you look silly. The combo moves are a great and fun thing, the new blocking is awesome...but when misused the combo moves really do make you into a fool quickly. Someone who has already mastered the sticks needs to get on a strategy guide for run game moves STAT. I am pretty much useless as I try to relearn how to control my ball carriers in the open field again.

What about you? Have you felt any of the differences in NCAA and learned any hard lessons? Share them here!

I certainly hope that's the case with recruiting. I know a lot of guys in my dynasty don't want to see top 10 recruiting classes for users with 1* teams within 3 years of starting; lessens the challenge.

I agree on the run moves. I realized quickly in the demo that it was gonna take some practice to actually master the higher level moves, and know when to use them.

if you had been using real moves(right stick) all along instead of swerving with the left stick the run moves wouldn't be a problem.

^^^ LOL!

I'm looking forward to the challenges of having to relearn some aspects of the game tomorrow.

Could somebody please post the game from Coordinator Cam?

#2 was really evident in the demo too. Coordinator cam is awkward at the goal line.

Lol, this dude crying about more difficult recruiting and the coordinator cam at the goal line. Well damn, not too bad for gripes. If this has been 2012, he'd have a list of 20 items, MINIMUM!

The OP isn't crying he's just pointing out things aren't business as usual in this game.

Haha, I don't think I'm crying either. I am enjoying this year's game a lot. There are just some things about this year's game that are definitely different/better than last year!

I've used all the camera angles and I like the "Normal" view and I think "Wide" is my next favorite. The wide view lets you see the whole field and isn't zoomed out too much and can see the whole stadium in the background which look great and make it feel more like a college atmosphere seeing it while playing!

Unnecessary complaints in my opinion; not even worth a post on the main page. No one needs this type of negativity a day before a game gets released just to deflate any excitement people may have had.

How is it negative? I think he is welcoming the new and needed challenge in recruiting and offensive moves. As far as the camera goes, if it was in the demo and still there, who cares?

I don't mind Coordinator Cam --- it's helped me get a handle on the new running game and unpredictability of the physics engine a bit more than the other angles did.

Biggest complaint I have, though, is that it zooms in at the wrong times. I was left taking sacks because the camera didn't zoom out to see my receivers downfield in time.

The game is great!!!!! Recruitment not suppose to be easy, and open field combo jukes is great, but mainly they brought back exporting draft class.. Good job EA cant wait to buy my copy.

I think half these people missed the point here. He is stating these things as being positives for the game. Aka, it's a good thing to have a challenge.
