NCAA Football 10 (Blog #4): New Mexico State vs. Ohio State Stuck
Posted on July 9, 2009 at 01:54 AM.
I have to share this story of my game against Ohio State, as I think it demonstrates how an A team will play against a D+ team.

It almost seemed like tOSU was completely unmotivated to play us in the middle of their Big 10 schedule. We jumped out on them with our offense and surprisingly took at 13-6 lead into the half thanks to several tOSU miscues. I'm not sure if there is a motivation attribute or something, but it definitely felt like they did not want to play us at all. I knew in the pit of my stomach what was coming in the second half.

It seems like we were bombarded by the much superior Ohio State team. Our first drive in the second half started off with an interception, which tOSU capitalized on to even the score. They then stopped us three and out and marched down the field again and scored. It was 20-13 tOSU before I could blink. Again three and out, and again we ended up giving up another TD. 27-13.

We then got a long pass play for a TD to pull back within a TD at 27-20. Ohio State was just rolling on offense though, as they went down the field to score again to make it 34-20 early in the fourth. I thought, "let's answer this, get a stop and tie this game". Whoops!

I threw a pick six the next play and then tOSU added a late TD to win the game 48-20. They outgained us 386 to 246. The difference in talent was 100% immediately obvious. Hence why I kinda felt that impending doom at the half when we were up.

BTW this was on Heisman at 7 minute quarters. You HAVE to play at least 7 minutes if you want somewhat realistic numbers.

Wow that's awesome. Well not for your dynasty. Ha. Thanks for sharing Chris.

Tressel must have got on them at halftime haha. To bad you couldn't pull off the upset. But its also good that it wasn't an easy win which would have been worse than what actually happened.

You mentioned this was on Heisman. However, I am curious if you used any game planning settings other than normal? Would they have an impact in changing the momentum after OHIO went on its offensive breakout???

in all ea sports football games u always get the feeling that the cpu knows what play you are doing i am playing the ncaa demo right now and i can tell that the cpu knows what play i am doing cause everytime i try to do a option play with florida he never speads out his defense no matter how many wr i have on the field is it like this in the final built

I'm surprised you at how you said that NCAA 10 was much easier than 09 since Adam said it would be the opposite. You are really playing well on Heisman for someone who normally plays on AA.

Did OSU play like OSU ? A lot of spread formation, Pryor running, etc. Was there a noticeable difference in OL/DL interaction?

I doubt that they added that to the game on purpose because if they did they would have shoved a blog down our throat about it by now haha. I think it might have been a mental thing on your part in the second half. Nothing against you, I just don't think the NCAA team would do something this clever; especially without advertising it.
Thanks for the impressions.

Wow, jusmegamer, Sounding a little ungrateful towards a guy who has already posted 4 blogs about this game and is just trying to share as much info. with us as he can. Thanks for making yourself sound like a complete a-hole though.

Jaymo76 - I used basically all balanced settings through the game. I honestly need to do a study on the settings, because I still haven't seen much difference when I switch.

rudy - I think it's easily a lot easier than last year. Not sure if I'm an isolated case or not, but it's nowhere near harder if you play the game of football right.

therizing2 - They didn't play quite like OSU should. Pryor didn't run near as much as he probably will be this year for tOSU. There is definitely a chance that digi-Tressel didn't want to get him injured though

marco - You are probably right. I think it's the adaptive playcalling by the computer which caught up with me. I was calling a bunch of different calls the first half and I'm pretty sure I fired out all my shots too early, and we weren't able to capitalize. Either way, it's a good sign

jusmegamer - You do realize how dumb that sounded right? You have to play realistic to get correct numbers on 5 minute quarters? If you played realistic, you'd get numbers 1/3 of what they should be in the real game. I'm just commenting that the game moves much slower in terms of play numbers compared to previous years thanks to the computer using the play-clock a bit more. If you want to get a realistic number of plays at the 'gamer-pace' you are going to have to play longer quarters.

when i play 5 minute quarters, stats are nowhere near close to being realistic, i only have time to throw like 15 passes and maybe run the ball 10 times and my leading tackler has like 6 tackles lol

They might jusmegamer, and I hope they do for you. But they always were for me as well playing super quick. This year though, the computer takes longer to call plays, so you end up with less plays than last year, probably a 15% reduction at least. So just be weary, because you might have to play a minute or so longer on your quarters. Hopefully not, I know how important having quick games are
