Chris' Out of the Park Baseball 11 Review Stuck
Posted on April 13, 2010 at 05:17 PM.
I think it's finally happened for me.

Out of the Park Baseball 11 is by far my favorite baseball game this year, not an easy feat for a guy who has loved playing the actual games since Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball on the SNES. But I just can't help it, OOTP 11 is like an addictive drug mixed with your own personal theme park. I can't get enough of it, and it's very possible I might be ready to crown this year's game of the year already.

What is really scary is that while I think MLB '10: The Show reached the peak of the mountain with it's current formula this year, I can still see OOTP 11 continuing to build on it's formula for a few more years to come. But without a doubt, I'm willing to give Out of the Park Baseball 11, a mere text-simulation created at a fraction of the cost of the bigger names, the crown for best baseball game this year.

For those who don't have any clue what Out of the Park Baseball is, what it entails, or what you do, just read the next paragraph. Out of the Park Baseball places you into the role of General Manager of a baseball team. You put together the team of your dreams in order to compete and win championships. You can be as hands off or as hands on as you want without actually playing the games out yourself. While I prefer a more hands-off quick simulation approach, I know many who actually step in and manage each game from the dugout. The game features no graphics -- it might be time for that -- but it does feature the deepest 'franchise' mode available to baseball gamers.

This year's edition has a slew of new features including big interface improvements, improved historical simulation, a very accurate set of MLB rosters, a completely revamped draft interface and new features within the in-game area. That's not even counting Owners with personalities and storylines for players which go throughout the year. Simply put, you will sit down to play Out of the Park and before you realize it, you've been at the screen for 6 hours and you are stuck wondering where your life went.

The bottom line is: If you ever thought about the business end of baseball or if you have ever simmed through seasons of the big-name games, then put those away and play Out of the Park Baseball right now. It will be a little overwhelming at first, but once you master the interface, you are going to find the best baseball game available in 2010.

I have never been a "simmer" but, I have been leaning towards trying one of these text sims out there. I may have to make the leap this year.

Excellent write up. Text sim games are absolutely fantastic and fun to play, with OOTP probably being the premier text sim game for any sport.

Yeah, great review. The thing I like about ootp are the "little things." I was playing as the Toronto Gm and I received this email telling me that Adam Lind was caught DUI. He has been suspended by the league for I can't remember the number of games. There was another game where a player was caught in a bar fight and was injured. I was on the verge of pulling my hair out!

For those of you on the fence with this product, I would say give it a try you may be impressed. I mean, you do have to switch gears a bit when moving from the Show or 2k, but once you get into a career you do really get sucked in.

WARNING, This game can cause "one-more-turn-itis." I was a victim last night, I had to see what would happen next, before I knew it it was 1:00 a.m.!
