The Eternal Debate about John Cena

Pro Wrestling is an ever-evolving business, where companies have to evolve in order to stay the course, to stay above the red line, to stay alive. Some could say the refusal of WCW to fully evolve killed it. We see WWE evolving, pushing a new kind of superstar, one not based on height, but on how talented the performer can be. ROH is evolving, getting more well known names, names the common fan would know. TNA attempts to push new talent, instead of relying on the same guy(Jeff Jarrett) to carry the main strap. Across the oceans, NJPW has evolved, hitting what I would call an era of gaijin, where they have taken great leaps on the card.

For all this evolution, there's one thing that hasn't evolved, in my opinion. John Cena. Cena, for better or for worse, is still the same character he was 5 years ago. He's the underdog, the guy who gets beat up for a lot of the match to build up some amazing comeback... But yet... he's the franchise guy. He's been champion before, he's done everything in the business. He doesn't fit the mold WWE's pushing him as. We've seen him fall to the same situation a thousand-fold... Always the face, always that same hero. Some have said a heel turn is long overdue.

Unfortunately...

This will not happen. Ever. WWE and Vince see Cena as a huge marketability, people pay to see him either kick ***, or get his *** kicked. People hate him so much, that they would pay to see him lose. People love him also... Especially the kids. The lack of evolution can be blamed on Vince, but why should he change Cena? Cena's the WWE's top charity guy, if he turns heel, who can actually take his place? Who is going to go out and put all the man-hours that Cena has in Make-A-Wish? No one. No one is going to get anything close to the numbers Cena does. At least... no one who is believable at that position(I'm looking at you Taker, you wouldn't fit). Cena's still a big market draw, whether he's getting that mostly negative reaction or not.

However, there could be a bit of evolution. As we know, Cena did rap a lot in the past, he could plausibly return to doing that more often. The major question is, will it be enough to actually get the fans to maybe tolerate him again, not hate him full out? Or would they too hate him because they don't want to see him rap again on a regular basis, because it's old.

I'd have a higher opinion of him if he did try to rap here and there more often. I mean, I know he does now, but it's not as often as I'd like to see him rap.

I haven't even went over Cena's moveset, but that's more of an issue of him having to learn the basics the right way, so he can expand his moveset. It may be too late in his career to do something like that. I'm not too sure.
