2017 Week 5: vs Notre Dame
Posted on December 9, 2018 at 07:18 PM.
#12 Notre Dame (3-1) @ #11 Syracuse (4-0)

This weekend's premier matchup features the 12th ranked Fighting Irish going up against the undefeated 11th ranked Orange in a rivalry game. The game will be played at MetLife Stadium but that should still favor Syracuse fans because it is so much closer to their school than Notre Dame. The Irish have a good team this year and are going to provide Syracuse with the toughest test they have faced to this point in the year. Tommy DeVito will have to be diligent to make good decisions and protect the football against a good defense. Notre Dame's only loss came on the road against undefeated #10 West Virginia, where Syracuse will travel next week. The Orange defense is an area of concern for them heading into this game because they will need to play better than they did in the second half against K-State if they want to have a shot at winning this one. It's a toss up but the star power of Tommy DeVito should take over in the clutch and seal the win for Syracuse to move to 5-0 and 3-0 against Notre Dame during Coach Bays' tenure.

Prediction: 38-35 Syracuse

This game was not as close as expected as Syracuse shut the Notre Dame offense down all day and held them out of the endzone until the 4th quarter. Syracuse got touchdowns in all three phases of the game as playmaking SO SS Lance Williams scored a pick-six and SO WR Matt Archie ran a kick back 96 yards at the halftime buzzer. Tommy DeVito threw for nearly 300 yards and 2 scores while running for 70 yards and another score. He has not had a bad game yet this season while accounting for 19 touchdowns and just 2 turnovers. FR HB Richard Patton had his least efficient game of the season but he was still able to rack up 110 total yards and a score. This was a good team win to move the Orange to 5-0 on the season and likely into the top 10 of the rankings next week.

Final Score: 42-20 Syracuse
