Free agency can have a big impact on Madden. A mid-tier Madden team can go from average to the elite ranks in a hurry. Today, we look at several examples of how this year's free-agency class has already had a big impact on teams that were not that popular within the Madden community this past season.

The 3-4 defense is more popular in the NFL than it has ever been. About half the teams in the NFL employ the defensive set for some if not all of their defensive snaps. And since the 3-4 is so popular, it is assumed that the Madden developers have developed this scheme so it is just as effective as it is in the real NFL.

Unfortunately, that is not really the case. While some Madden gamers can use this defense effectively, the game has simply not adapted its gameplay to fit the needs of the 3-4 on or off the field. But the lack of 3-4 friendliness in Madden can be remedied by the developers. And making Madden more 3-4 friendly would help create a more realistic experience when using the formation, and it would also benefit the general gameplay.

If the developers work to solve the problems that plague the 3-4 in the game, Madden 11 could be considered the year of the 3-4. So let us start on the field and talk about how some realism can be injected into the defense.

Play:
3-4 over, cover 3
Playbooks: 3-4, pittsburgh, NYJ, BAL, any PB with 3-4 over

Setup
1) Shift line left
2) Blitz left outside LB with right stick (outside LB left on screen)
3) Place left MLB in flat to the left

The great thing about the play is it’s a cover 3. You can adjust so easily with this defense to whatever the offense is doing. For example, you can place the SS in a hook zone on a purple to the right if they’re hitting you with corner routes to the right, or double the outside WR if necessary.

The QB has little time to get the ball off as the outside pressure comes in almost instantly. With this defense you can shut down most sets easily with the proper adjustments.

This is another great Madden NFL 10 Tip from AskMadden. For more great tips and strategies, check them out now!

The San Diego Chargers once again made it into the playoffs, and a big part of their success can be attributed to their high flying passing attack.

One of the ways the Chargers keep their opponents on their heals is by mixing is running back slip screens in the shotgun sets. Darren Sproles has great speed and hands out of the backfield, and with all of the other weapons the Chargers possess, (Gates, Jackson, Floyd) it becomes a tough task to always account for the slip screen. This week AskMadden.com brings you HB slip screen out of the trio formation located in Pittsburgh playbook to keep your opponents off balance.

Peyton Manning and the Colts have had and still have one the most prolific passing attacks in the NFL. One way they continue to have success is bydisguising their routes by laying a block or two before they begin their route. The Colts also love using Joseph Addai on draw plays. This week AskMadden.com brings a two play scheme out of shot-gun snugs to keep your opponents off balance.

The Jaguars have been reported as saying they would consider drafting Tim Tebow in the first round. However, it's another team in Florida that could really use Tebow for its Wildcat formation.

This year Madden features 30 pre-made draft classes for franchise mode. The draft class that is assigned to your franchise is randomly generated when advancing from the preseason to the regular season. This means that you can map out your franchise and decide what draft classes you want simply by saving and re-loading before the regular season until you get the desired draft class. Most "sim" players may not prefer this method, but for those of us who pit our franchises against our friends’ franchises, it helps to map out and maximize your roster.

To provide an example, I will go over my preferred top two draft classes, which should really help set up the future of your own franchise. To make things easy, most people sort draft classes by the top-rated QB from each class. These two classes are known as the Cooper Reno draft and the Kris Steven-Baker draft. Complete lists of the best players in all 30 drafts have been made by a few dedicated people and can be found by via the all-powerful Google.

This is AskMadden's tip of the week. For more great Madden strategies, head over there now!

Wes Welker and the New England Patriots may not be as efficient as they once were on offense, but with a healthy Tom Brady and Wes Welker, they can still strike fear in opposing defenses.

However, when most people think of the New England receivers, they tend to think about number 81, Randy Moss. But the receiver with three straight seasons with over 100 catches is not Moss, it's Wes Welker. The reason Wes Welker is so hard to stop -- and why Tom Brady will not stop throwing his way -- is because of his route-running ability, his hands and his ridiculous elusiveness.

Hey Madden fans, I'm back again and this time I’m looking at players who are under 24 and with A potential. These guys are destined to be the next superstar players in Madden 10.

Player’s potentials do change through out their career in Madden 10, and also depending on what position they play. You can mess around editing player positions, for example offensive line back-ups turn into great defensive ends or even strong safety’s. Defensive backs that are good in zone coverage can be even better at the safety positions.

This list will be for potential trades, so you can refer to this page when ever you need help and are looking for a certain player.

Remember these are all A graded potential players, the following season their rating will go up dramatically, I recommend downloading Star player and World class training staff to maximize player progression. Player ratings may also change due to roster updates.

Demarcus Ware has become one of the most dominant pass rushers in the league, and the Dallas Cowboy defense is finding more and more ways to utilize his great ability.

One of the more successful ways has been to use him as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 set, and have a blitz designed to overload one side. This allows D Ware to get free off the edge, or have a one on one matchup with either the tackle or the running back -- which the Cowboys will take every time.

Having a pass rusher such as Ware allows the rest of the secondary to be able to jump routes more consistently, because they know the opposing quarterback only has a short time with the ball.

Chris Johnson, in only his second season in the NFL, is leading the league in rushing by 200 yards, racking up 1,242 yards. He is averaging 6.2 YPC and has already surpassed last year's total of 1,228 yards. And remember, there are still six games left to be played, which means we could see a 2,000 yard season.

Chris Johnson has proven that he can make great reads, and he has also proven that he is not easy to take down. But the main reason Chris Johnson has been so successful: his spectacular speed in the open field. When he notices a hole, he hits it. And once he reaches the secondary, it's over.

Recently, I took the Arizona Cardinals and talked about what I would do to make them a Super Bowl contender for years to come in Madden 10. The Cards already have some key pieces to build around, but I want to take them to the next level. So what I have to do is balance out my team while injecting youth at every position. For the Cards, this means establishing a running game and building a lockdown defense.

I started my franchise with fair trades on and default rosters. (I will warn any "sim" players now, this is not a "sim" franchise. This is maximizing a franchise within the limits of fair trades.)

After a flurry of trades, this is how my Cardinals team looks before the first kickoff.

Madden has always mirrored the NFL. In this week's tip, we look at what the Philadelphia Eagles have to take into account if they want to be successful passing the ball. This logic goes hand-in-hand with the Madden football series.

Bottom line, fast receivers are only a threat when they have space to use their speed. To overcome physical corners as well as inexperience, we hit practice mode to demonstrate how the Eagles in the NFL, as well as teams with undersized receivers in Madden, get open space for their playmakers to create big plays.
