Tim Terrific, Defense Dominant as Broncos Shut Down Chiefs 22-9

Tebow aims high just before releasing a deep ball to Brandon Lloyd.

This is what Broncos fans have been waiting for - the chance for Tim Tebow to take the reins in Denver, and so far he hasn't disappointed. Tebow led the Broncos passing attack and the defense did their part in a 22-9 victory against bitter rival Kansas City. Tebow improves to 2-0 since taking over as the starting QB for Kyle Orton in week 9.

Tebow went 12-20 for 204 yards throwing just one interception and, for the most part, showing why the Broncos drafted him with a taste of the future. Tebow looked calm in the pocket with the line doing a decent job of protecting him against a heavy KC pass rush. The rush was coming on early downs as the Chiefs clearly came out with a gameplan to shut down Knowshon Moreno (24 carries, 56 yards and a TD). In the 3rd quarter, Tebow broke through in a big way by hitting reciever Brandon Lloyd for a 58 yard completion, putting the ball in a perfect spot behind CB Brandon Flowers. That set up Denver's only offensive TD, a 6 yard run by Knowshon Moreno.

Defensively the Broncos played bend but don't break style defense, allowing the Chiefs to cross midfield a few times but then locked down Matt Cassel and Jamaal Chambers. Similar to the Chiefs defensive gameplan, they looked to shut down Charles on the run and force Cassel to beat them. Cassel (7-19, 129 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) was faced with heavy pressure for most of the game, the majority of which came from LE Jason Hunter, who recorded 4 tackles with three of them sacks. When Cassel did have time he rushed a few throws, one of which was taken back for a TD by recent trade acquisition CB Brian Williams. Steve Breaston led the Chiefs receiving attack, hauling in 3 catches for 82 yards.

Denver climbs back to 1 game under .500 with the huge win, leads the AFC West pending the result of the Raiders-Chargers game this week, and prepares to head back to Mile High to face the 2-6 Jets. Kansas City (3-6) goes on the road to take on New England.
