The Potential Return Of NFL 2K
Posted on May 27, 2014 at 02:54 PM.
Rumors have been popping up, that 2K will show a Football game at E3 2014. Here are a couple outcomes that a new NFL 2K game will have.

The phrase " EA Needs Competition" has been uttered hundreds of thousand of times since the exclusive deal was made with the NFL. Well they finally may see some competition. If NFL 2K were to enter the NFL arena soon, Madden has 2 choices.... improve, or fold. I'll discuss both

- Madden improving due to competition would be bitter sweet. I'll talk about that later. There was a time, when it was blasphemous to say anything negative about Madden. That was a time of competition. They aspired to be the best product out. Sure we had plenty of hits and misses with their innovation, but they were trying. Us consumers were not worried about the fundamentals of the game, because they were solid, and not to be questioned. Somewhere in the mix, it was lost, that it Madden is football simulation, and not just a marketing campaign. I think a new game in the mix would help Madden get back to fundamentals, and reevaluate what the goal of Sports Simulation should be. The NFL is a religion in the United States. EA sports recognizes that millions people are interested in their product, merely from their love of the NFL. I don't think they're willing to give up the cash cow that is Madden. If the team creating Madden is up for the challenge, we may actually see a great football war.

- The flip side of Madden improving would be for the franchise to fold. While it doesn't seem very likely, it could happen. One thing to consider, is Madden's lackluster attempts at simulation football may not be due to competition. Its hard to believe, but they might be pumping out the best possible game they can make. Nobody wants to believe that, but a game can only be as good as the people in charge of the creative process, and the people making it. The team making NBA Elite wanted to put out the best possible game they could, and the reality of the matter was... they were just not that talented. This is no disrespect to any developer out there, but all developers are not created equal. There is always the potential, that a NFL 2K game could drive drive the Madden series to reboot, and we all know how that can go.

- Competition is always good for the consumer, companies competing for our dollar has never hurt anybody. I think we can all agree that Madden football has suffered since the competition was eliminated. If Madden were to improve because of a competitor, this would be both joyous and frustrating. All of our prayers would be answered actually having a above average football game to play. That would also mean that most of our suspicions were true, and they were loafing because football gamers had no choice. I'm torn on whether I want to see Madden improve due to another title pushing them. Part of me says I don''t don't want to give my dollar to company that operates that way. The other part of me say its just a damn video game.

hi Dave!
i agree on most of what u wrote but again, i thin those about 2k are just rumors , i cannot see why this would be kept so secret.
e3 is just around the corner and i think we should have got the news about this game already.
let's hope the Madden team did homeworks this year

Please Let NFL2K football comeback. Even if it is not good as Madden, (somehow), its good for the consumer to have a choice of what football game they would like to play. Its hard to imagine that 2K won't put out a good football game with NFL2K5 being so far ahead of its time and now with what the 2K team has done with the NBA2K series.

Madden folding, not going to happen any time soon, even with competition.
The question should be, Can to two NFL games co-exist and both be profitable? The answer to that would be yes?

However, if 2k were to get back into the game of football, it would probably take them 2-3 years of development, and graphic building before we see a game on the market, especially if its an NFL game.
IF they were to release an NFL title this fall, that means the game has been in the works for the past several years, and I really dont see how that would be possible (info would have leaked already)

If 2k does releases a game I do believe it will be an APF title with a franchise mode, and more team/roster customization. pretty much fix the development mistakes they made from 2k8.

As a matter of fact they should entertain the idea of releasing a patch/DLC content for APF2k8, something that unlocks the rosters for editing. Id pay 10-20 dollars for such a feature/patch. just a thought.

Im keeping my fingers crossed about this rumor, that I never heard about

Competition is good only if it's good. NBA 2K didn't really see a major upgrade despite the existence of a competitor because Live just wasn't that good. If it's true, it's going to be at least a year, maybe two, before Madden really sees it as a threat & feels the need to step up its game.
