PULLMAN, Wash. -- Colorado State (2-0) needed every last second to get the win at Washington State (0-2), as Pete Kontodiakos hit a 41 yard field goal as time expired to take the 41-38 win.

After falling behind 20-0, CSU scored twice in the final two minutes of the first half to trail 20-14 at halftime. CSU took the lead in the 3rd when Marquise Law caught a pass and ran 74 yards for the tocuhdown, however the Cougars answered back with a 71 yard touchdown pass from Tuel to Wilson, a minute later.

In this exciting game CSU quarterback Pete Thomas set the school single game passing record with 484 yards, he also added 4 touchdowns and one interception on 23 of 37 passing. "I was focused today on finding my receivers. I knew we could take advantage with our size and speed in the receiving corps today." Thomas said.

Marquise Law caught 9 passes for 212 yards and 2 touchdowns, Byron Steele had 6 catches for 99 yards and a TD, Lou Greenwood had 3 passes for 124 yards and one touchdown. Steele commented about their performance,"We knew coming in that we had an advantage with our experience, and Pete constantly hit us in stride so we didn't have to slow down to catch the ball, it was a great help as we burst away from the defense numerous times on the way to the endzone."

HB Carlos Washington added 98 yards on the ground with a score."With us being so focused on the passing game, whenever I begged in the huddle to get the ball, Thomas obliged and handed it off, I think that the 5 yards per carry showed that the defense had no clue if we were going to pass or run."

WSU QB Jeff Tuel passed for 517 yards on 38 of 48 attempts, and added 3 touchdowns too."I knew I could take advantage of their defense because they have a history of being very aggressive, so I tried to avoid the blitz and find the open man, a lot of the time the underneath pass was open and I'd hit the short pass with our guy then able to run 10-15 yards in open space."

The receiving combo of Gino Simone (92 yards on 9 catches), Marquess Wilson (151 yards on 8 catches, and 1 TD), and Isiah Barton (113 yards on 7 catches) found a lot of open space to work with and like their CSU conterparts, were much quicker and smarter then the defense today.

"I'm going to work on getting these guys motivated more for the start of the game, as both this week and last week we went down early only to have to play catch up for a good portion of the time." CSU coach Drew Gill commented.

Rams Comeback With Power In The Second Half...
I couldn’t believe the first drive by the Vikings as they ran all over us but we managed to stop them for a field goal. They out us at 3 and out then we did the same to them as the first quarter narrowed down. With 11 seconds left in the first quarter I tied it up with a field goal. As I stated before I have very inexperienced corners and it showed as in one play Matt Stafford passed to Steve Johnson for six. Another Vikings Drive another Vikings TD this time with a 53 yard rush by Cedric Benson. And Again they score and again with a huge 81 yard run by Cedric Benson… I don’t like whats happening right now. We are already losing by 21 and to top it off in the 2nd quarter Greg Camarillo gets and Abdominal tear but will only be gone for a week. Late in the second I put up another FG only slightly shortening the gap. TOUCHDOWN!!! Drew Brees with a beautiful pass to Jerheme Urban.
We still go into the half losing 24-13 but we get the ball to start the half. OMG… To start the half Jacoby Ford returns the kickoff for a TD and a 2-point conversion by Deangelo Williams to make the score 24-21 vikings with the lead. Adalius Thomas gets a sack fumble which is recovered by DT Colin Cole. TD rush by Deangelo Williams to give the Rams the lead at 28-24. The Vikings charge down field but come up short and only score a field goal. Rams charge downfield to come up short and only get another FG. TD run by Deangelo Williams to increase our lead to 11. At the beginning of the 4th Vikings score again with a TD and 2-Point Conversion 38-35 Rams Lead. Another rushing TD by Deangelo Williams making the score 45-35 Rams Lead. Terrell Thomas pick 6 making the score 45-42 Rams still Lead. Rams Win 45-42 in my opinion this is too close for comfort and we have a lot of work to do and I am very happy with how my second team did seeing that is who scored the most and won us the game.

The first game of the preseason starts with a home game against the Minnesota Vikings... this looks like a tough Game as they possess a Defensive leader in Patrick Willis. But it looks like it should be an easy game considering they have a young QB in Matt Stafford and a weak run game lead by Cedric Benson... I hope its safe to say they will have to beat me with theyre defense.

**NOTICE**

Kicking Off The Preseason

Here we are the preseason where we see who is here to play and who isn't. I will be doing a game by game review of my dynasty with the St.Louis Rams. In my Fantasy Draft I was able to pick-up both great offensive players and great defensive players. On offense we have a great QB in Drew Brees, we have a tag team of HB's in Ray Rice and Deangelo Williams, and in the receiving game we have greats such as Donald Driver, Marques Colston, and a rookie looking to prove himself in Jacoby Ford. On defense you won't believe who I got...RAY LEWIS!. So you see the middle is secure but we also have a veteran in Adalius Thomas at LOLB, and another great at FS Brian Dawkins and he will need a great season to help make up for our inexperienced cornerback core.

WASHINGTON D.C. -- After dropping one in New Jersey to fall to 1-2, general manager Dominik Luomo found it imperative to speak with the team about the correlation between job security and effort.

"I just said to the guys that although the season is just getting underway, things are going to be different than they were last year. I am not the same GM Peter (Chiarelli) was, and under my watch, every game deserves top effort. I like the team we have, but in order to be the best, you have to have that mindset. And, if anyone disagrees in word or action, well.. things are subject to change. Period." Luomo recaptured his message in Wednesday's press conference.

Although the players received the talk as a bit overzealous, the effect was on display in Washington Sunday night. Marco Sturm scored his third on the season as part of a two goal first period to take the team lead. One more from Mark Recchi, and a fourth from Kriecji topped it all off as the Caps were outshot 2 to 1 and out-hit similarly.

Robinson Cano carried the club (finally), going 3-for-4 with a home run and 4 RBIs.

Roy Oswalt allowed 4 runs and 11 hits over 7 innings of work to collect his 5th win of the season, and it also extended his winning streak to 3 in a row.

The series resumes this afternoon, with Phil Hughes (2-0, 3.05) scaling the mound for the Yankees to face off with Mitch Talbot (4-2, 5.66) and the Indians.

Denver -- This years Rocky Mountain Showdown will go down as one of the best Colorado-Colorado State rivalry games in history.
Colorado was up 21-3 at halftime and 28-10 at the end of the third quarter, before CSU scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth to win the game inside the final minute.

The tale of two halfs for the Rams today as in the first half they kept coming up empty inside the redzone, however in the second have QB Pete Thomas marched the team down the field time after time, in the comeback win for Colorado State.

Thomas was named player of the game after going 24-44 for 419 yards, three touchdowns, including the go ahead toss to Greenwood with 49 seconds remaining, and two interceptions.

"I was nervous when I first stepped on the field today. And it showed in my incapability to get into the redzone in the first half. Coach sat me down and gave me a few pointers and Viola! magic happened in the second half." Thomas said about his performance.

Senior RB Carlos Washington rushed for 49 yards and one touchdown as Th Buffaloes defense prevented him from getting any open space, however in the passing game Byron Steele caught 8 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown. Greenwood and Law both added a touchdown and 77 and 88 yards a piece.

On defense for CSU Davis Burl looks to have found his form from his spohmore season as he collected 2 sacks."Last year, I was trying to help teach the younger guys some of the tricks of the trade. This summer I focused on getting myself better and stronger, and I think you'll see me rack up the sacks again."Burl said.

Freshman Strong Safety Keith Harper showed little inexperience at this level as he caught an interception which put CSU in great field position for the go ahead touchdown. "I've always been known for my hard hits, and play against the run game, but I think today I showed the doubters that my hands and vision are good and if you throw one up to my area of the field, you'll be sorry."

For Colorado, Sophmore QB Nick Hirschman was 21-36 for 306 yards and 2 TDs, with 2 INTs. HB Justin Torres looks strong this year as he collected 66 yards, and avoided numerous tackle attempts with his jukes and spin moves.

"What a way to start the season."Coach Gill commented,"These players have matured a lot since last season, as if they faced a similar situation last year they would have rolled over, but they showed a lot of promise out there today. I think the polls underestimated us in the preseason, and I'm looking forward to taking it to the Utahs and TCUs this year."

Fort Collins Coloradoan Sports news-

Preseason Analysis for the local CSU Rams 2011 Football Season.

The Rams come into the season ranked 53rd overall in the preseason polls. They will be lead by their offense this season, as the defense has nuerous new faces in the starting lineup. They are predisted to finish 6th in theMWC behind Utah, TCU, Air Force, San Diego State, and BYU.

DE Davis Burl has returned to the preseason 1st Team All-MWC for the second consecutive year, he is joined by senior CB Marcus Shaw. The Rams on the second team All-MWC team include:Sr WR Byron Steele, Jr TE Matt Weems, ROLB Mike Orakpo, Jr CB Immanuel Mitchell and P Pete Kontodiakos.

The ut of conference schedule includes the Rocky Mountain Showdown in week 1 vs. Colorado, Visiting Washington State in week 2, Welcoming Utah State for the home date of their home and home commitment last season, and traveling to San Jose State to finish their two year home and home series in week 12.

Coach Gill mentioned there are a few position battles this year in camp.
RE between Sr Broderick Sargent, James Skelton, and CJ James.
CB between Jr Shaquille Bell and Sr Marcus Shaw
FS Between Freshman Keith Harper and Freshman Matt Williams.

"I think we have a pretty solid team this year. We will definately be lead by our offense as we have some strong returning players in Thomas, Washington, and Steele. The defense will be lead by captains Burl and Orakpo as the secondary is my main area of concern, as we don't have much experience there. We'll see how the young players there step up throughout the season." Coach Drew Gill said about his team this season.
