For all of you in debt, this is my "feel good" story of the week...
It all started with one of my player, a 17 y.o. Canadian named John Macahan, and the training update of this past Friday. See, John trained very hard for the last 4 weeks, and after joining the team as an inadequate playmaker, he was finally rewarded for his efforts by finally becoming a passable playmaker. See, while John was a hard worker, also blessed with some inadequate passing skills, he was also a nasty fellow and he wasn't able to run hard for very long, as demonstrated by his weak stamina. Worst of all, he almost had some mind control capabilities, as demonstrated by his passable leadership abilities. This combination was the one often referred to has him being the "team cancer", since no other team member has leadership skills above passable... Well, all that taken into account, John was put on the transfer market Friday, at about a quarter to one, eastern time, exactly 18:47, HT time... Here's John player card: John Macahan (10780107) 17 years, inadequate form, healthy A nasty fellow who is fiery and infamous. Has disastrous experience and passable leadership abilities. Speciality: Technical Nationality: Canada Assessed value: 92 000 C$ this is 46 000 U$ Wage: 1 320 C$/week Owner: Pintendre Pittbulls Warnings: 0 Stamina: weak Goaltending: disastrous Playmaking: passable Passing: inadequate Winger: poor Defending: weak Scoring: weak Set Pieces: poor Asking price was set to 49 000 C$, or 24,500 U$. Given the late date we are coming to in the Hattrick season, I thought this pricewas fair, hoping a newbie wouldn't see the many negative sides of John (nasty & passable leadership, has just popped, weak stamina) and would fire a bid with hope of getting a passable 17yo... I logged on this morning, still no bids had been put for John. I wasn't really desperate, as I knew that there was still two more days to go until the deadline. I left my computer logged into Hattrick, not thinking about it anymore, and went outside to do some yardwork. When I got back aound lunch time there was a little message in the newsflash box at the bottom of the screen that said "S_L_Tiger raises for John Macahan". First thought was "cool" but no more. I click the link and here's what the message is... ============================== 2003-06-07 S_L_Tiger offered 95 000 Euro for John Macahan and thereby took the lead in the bidding. Deadline is 6/9/2003 at 18:47 ============================== I know very well what the conversion rate for Euro to CDN$ is in Hattrick, it the same as US$ to CDN$, 2 to 1, meaning 1 Euro = 1 US$ = 2 CDN$. I was thinking about something else and mentally calculated how much the bid was by reversing the conversion (dividing the bid by 2 instead of multiplying it by two). Without any reason, I then clicked on the player's link and saw the real bid in CDN$... 190 000 C$!!!!! This was totally unexpected and unaccounted in my financial projections (yes, I do financial projections for my HT team ) but it will nicely help me add an extra 2000 seats to my stadium upgrade. Now instead of upgrading from 12000 to 20004 seats, I'll be upgrading to 22004 seats...Before you ask, no that team isn't owned by a complete newbie, he's had that team since February 22, only 3 days after I got mine. His transfer history also has 27 transfer to it... Don't know what he was thinking, but I should like what he did!!! May the same happen to all of you, may a weirdo Portugal guy overbid on one of your player like that ![]() FM

Wait, you're making me blush. Only my wife has the right to tell me that. Now that I've figured out you don't have a dick (from another weird thread) I'm gonna make sure she doesn't read over my shoulder when I surf this board... ![]() FM PS: yes newbies are fun, but the newbies we have around here are not the kind to spend their money on that kind of player, they are way to knowledgable to do that ![]()

It's ok, if my boyfriend knew I said I love ya, FM, he'd probably make me stop FOFC'ing.
I guess I just have a soft spot for Quebequois (since 1/2 my family is from there). ~terpk ![]()

Sadly, I thought this "feel good" story was about the Raiders defeat to the hands of FM.

Hey, that's pretty cool! When you say 1/2 your family, you mean like all your mom's side or all your dad's side? FM

Oh no Ardent, I wouldn't ridicule your team any more than it's been already. But, 7-0 was quite a drubbing... ![]() FM

Thanks, and you know what? Somebody upped the bid to 194 000 C$ (97k U$)!!! Can't undertsand why. That second owner is a Montrealer who's had his team since december 2002 and has done 67 transfer market moves so far, so not another newbie... oh well, anybody else want to bid on the weird nasty fellow??? ![]() FM

Well . . . nasty in combination with just solid isn't too bad. You have a decent shot of having him start off poorly with the new team but, hey, that's par for the course with a French Canadian. ![]() Also, it's hard to tell when the player popped passable so those folks are probably hoping for him to pop solid by season's end and maybe chase formidable by next season on the way to brilliant before 20. Having inadequate passing is definitely a good push since most don't train passing. I just had a 17YO inadequate/passable go for 95 000 (his value was around 75 000 in passable form) so the 90-100 range for Macahan doesn't sound too out of form. |
