OT: Sunset on Mars

I just got this picture from space.com and thought it was really, really cool. It guess what really struck me as unique about this picture is how it shows something we take for granted and see everyday, but when viewed from another planet it looks alien and strange!

The picture shows the sunset on Mars. According to the caption, the dust in the atmosphere absorbs the blue light from the sun, allowing only the red to penetrate, thus the red glow. Beautiful!

Is it just me, or does there appear to be some sort of stick figure right in the middle of that teardrop-shaped light.

This could be his call to come home.

Remember the "face on Mars" that was discovered some 25 years ago?

Well, recently scientists have found a new "face" on Mars. And this time, it seems that the Martians are just trying to have some fun with us...

Ahh, brings back memories of Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders....classic game. Anyway, the Mars face was part of an ancient alien amusement park in the game.

You really have to be there to fully appreciate a sunset on Mars.

The color of the Martian sky can change due to the weather. It can appear to be orange-red when dust from the surface gets into the air. But when the sky is clear of a lot of dust, it appears to be dark blue because of how thin the atmosphere is.

One of These two faces will look pretty damn familiar, and I believe they closely resemble the faces on Mars.

I thought one of the landings on Mars solved the mystery of the face on Mars?

Unfortunately, Michael Jackson's face still remains a mystery...

I thought the face was disproved and that it was just weird shadowing or something similiar to that. I wish it were real, but I have seen a few shows denying it's existence.

Yes, this is correct. In fact, we've known this from the beginning, but the conspiracy nuts didn't (and most still don't) beleive it. (edit: still don't beleive the explaination.)

I would like to believe there is a face on mars but any reasonable person knows that the camera and light angle can distort certain images .
