OT - Interesting AI-related snippet

Back when the film A.I. was about to come out, there was an extensive web-based enterprise (very) loosley connected to the film. It was a murder mystery, set on a variety of faux websites. Some of us at FOFC invested a little time working on it, but it turned out to be very deep - beyond my/our patience, it seems.

Anyway - along the way, there were a number of varied references to AI - the setting was some time in the 22nd century, and AI had become a routine part of life. The line between normal living people and synthetic AI had seemingly been very blurred, and that was the most intersting part of the storyline, for me at least.

Along the way was this particular story. The setting (who the doctor is in the story, etc) isn't particularly important - this is just a page from the journal of a psychiatrist, with comments about one of her cases. For whatever reason, I find the story just fascinating... and I still remembered just about the whole thing. When another thread turned toward a brief mention of more serious AI, it made me think of this... and I thought I'd share.

The Step-Self

I remember the whole thing. The reason I never got into the mystery thing was because by the time I found out about it, it was already being played by tons of people and there were entire websites about it. I'm th etype of person who can't jump into the middle of a "story" and get involved in it.

That link you posted was pretty cool.

That is truly a fascinating story Quik. Thanks!
