Will Clemens get 300 tonight?
Being a Cardinal fan, I have a bad feeling about tonight for Cardinal nation. Although Jason Simontacchi flew his father into NY tonight to watch him pitch for a father's day present (only his father's 3 game watching his son pitch), Roger has like 30 friends and family attending tonights game.
Not that it's a bad thing if Roger gets #300, but my best friend would absolutely crumble. He idolized Roger when he played in Boston and now despizes him in a Yankee uniform. Just seems like all is falling into place. Not to mention Jason's 6+ era vs a hungry Yankee's team who would love to see Roger do it at home. Todd |

I don't know why tonight is any different, they have been hungry for him to get his 300th win the last few times out and he has failed each time. The Yankees aren't playing particualrly well right now so this is a good time for the Cards to face them. Plus otehr than that thrashing they got from Boston a couple of nights ago the Cards have been red hot with the bats. I think Roger is going to have to wait until his next start to get his 300th win.
The original plan was to bump Morris up a day to help ensure Roger didn't get it, but with his shoulder problem they decided to keep him on normal rest.

Didn't Simontacchi pitch well his last time out? Let's hope that continues. Last nights game was a mess, good thing they finally got that 3 run lead in the 13th. Why the hell they didn't walk Garciaparra with first open in the 10th, I have no idea.

That game last night had many a mood change for me. Happy, pissed, happy, pissed, happy, almost pissed.
![]() That last homer Jimmy E hit to win the game was a BOMB! I was hoping to see a Morris - Clemens matchup tonight, but maybe the Simo man can do it. Who knows? I just feel this might be the right matchup for Clemens to do it. Todd |

Yea last night was a frustrating game. How often are you going to get 7 scoreless innings out of Garrett? It was a shame he didn't get that win. Still ya gotta like that they stuck it out.

True, but I bet Garrett was a little ticked. Why LaRussa didn't save Izzy for the 9th, I have no idea. Well, I know he's just coming back, but what's the difference between the 8th and 9th innings? I would have pitched Eldred in the 8th and Izzy in the 9th, but what do I know? I can't believe he took Kline out and put that damn Yan in either. The guy gives up two runs in two innings and his ERA goes down! HA! Oh well, we did win the game. Todd |

Its funny to hear Cardinals fans viewpoint of last night's game. I was at the game with my wife, and she left so upset that the Red Sox ended up blowing that game.
All the Red Sox fans are talking about is the face Edmonds even had a chance to hit that 3 run home run. Why let Mendoza a righty pitcher that has been horrible all year walk Pujols who was 0-5 in the game to pitch to Edmonds a lefty that had already homered once in the game. Sometimes it just makes sense to follow the book ![]() |

That is the exact reason why Yan couldn't cut it as a closer, there is a difference. I think they are trying to get him straight, and get him into a position where he pitches the 8th and Izzy the 9th.

What I meant is... what difference is it to pitch Izzy in the 8th and not the 9th? Too much pressure? The uncertainty of how he will do? I suspect you'll see Izzy pitching in the 9th from now on. ![]() Our bullpen is whipped, if Simo gets shelled early, we'll be in serious trouble tonight. Quote:
Good question, although you could say, Albert was 'due' for a hit. He is the NL batting leader, at least I think he still is. I wondered why Fossil - Fassero was kept in so long as well. LaRussa sure got pissed when Kerry threw the ball home instead of the cutoff man! At least we took two from the best hitting team in the MLB, and that's something I guess. Todd |

Hey, I would have loved to have Pujols have a chance against Mendoza! I don't think that is such a bad move. I was watching Bonds against Colon last night in between innings of the Cards game, and Harrelson said, I don't care if you strike him out 3 times in a row, he's going down to first. Last week Baltimore had no choice but to pitch to him and he hit a bases clearing double, so, I would recommend that teams follow that advice when they pitch to Pujols.

Wait a second though! I hate the Rams and have been a Bengals fan my whole life. I feel like I am allowed to make fun of shorty since I have Cincinnati in my blood and am a Bengals fan. So lets keep this thread to only Reds bashing please. |

He has a good shot now. 6 outs to go and the yanks are up 5-2. Thanks to a Mondesi homer in the 7th. Clements left in the 7th with a 3-2 lead.
Edgar Renteria was the #4000 K. That would be a helluva night (of accomplishments).

2 big career milestones in one game. I certainly don't think I'll see that again in my lifetime.
