USA vs Turkey (RESULTS!!)
Sounds like we got screwed.
We lose 2-1 on not one, not two, but three controversial calls. |

I watched the game and I didn't see the three controversial calls, maybe 1. The winning goal could have been offside, but the tv didnt really show it from the right angle to be sure. The Turkish penalty was a definite, not sure what the third controversial call was.
Personally, I thought the US were pretty poor today, just read Arena and Donovan saying Turkey were the better team. Which isn't too good as Turkey were playing a team made up mainly of their under-21 players. In the end, who cares? It's only the Confederation Cup, should be scrapped anyway. |

The handball which set up the penalty....
The English commentator guys said US should have been awarded penalty early in the game and a Turksih player should have been sent off. Again, this is all heresay.

FWIW - the U.S. isn't fielding it's strongest team either. Sure, they have some starters in there, but are missing many key players (the biggest being, of course, Friedel in goal). Among other starters, as well, they were missing Sanneh, Reyna, and Ben Olson.
Nevertheless, they have a more complete A-team than Turkey did (No Ilhan, Sukur, or Sash). They should have handled Turkey in that game. Hopefully we'll be able to run with another understaffed Brazilian team, and the Cameroonian side who we can match in talent. ~rpi-fan

If you go to ussoccer.com on gamedays, they have a game center with updated match stats as well as commentary on major plays.

I watched a webcast off a Serbian tv station. So I couldn't understand a word of the commentary, but at least I could watch.

???? I had no idea we were playing Turkey! Damnit, I would have loved to have watched that game with some of my Turkish friends here.
Interesting fact - Our goaling Friedl (?) used to be Turkey's goalkeeper for one of their big 3 teams (Galatasaray) back in the early 90's. |

Confederations Cup?
Even the soccerwild Europeans don't even care about this one. Germany decided not to play the tournament. It's been a FIFA toy for 13 years, just like that World Club Competition (the what?) I did see Ernie Stewart playing his good old right wing with his usual #8 in the last 5 minutes of a full (90 mins!) replay on Europsport this morning. (Just watched from minutes 88 to 91 and decided to do something better, like playing Super Mario on the SNES. ![]() That aside, the Confederations Cup is a much better test then the USA's usual huge list of friendlies. And if O'Brien and/or Stewart are game, I'll even root for the USA, like I did last summer. |

Kind of like how half the teams in baseball have nothing to play for in their final 80 games of the season. 80. |

Baseball and soccer have to be the two worst sports to watch on tv. I will watch my team, the Pirates, play and the World Cup. Outside of that, nothing else would have to be on tv before I would watch either one. BTW, I would still think it is important for the US to win these type of games to prove themselves some.
