Here's a question
I've long since scoured other boards in search of the ultimate knowledge on how to position players in hattrick...but here's a question.
I think we all know that midfield and then goalie are the critical, crucial positions. So how important would it be to have a solid (one or two) defenders to help the cause in the back ground...more importantly, let's say we get them to excellent. I've tried hattrick organizer and mybestteam...remember I'm in div 5 and won't be seeing the light of div4 this season barring a major miracle...so I think if I sold both solids, to bolster my midfield, I have 4 passable defenders that could fill their role (looking to go back to the 3-5-2 anyway). So I did an analysis. It seemed that they only slightly enhanced my defense than that of the passables. Sell these guys off for 200 to 350k and bolster my midfield and I could be better off? Does this seem plausible or wise. These guys are 26 and 23 next season hardly trainable but still worthwhile commodities. Second question is my formidable stamina, passable PM, inadequate passing, passable defense, has decreased in form to poor. He's been up and down all year but this is the lowest it has ever gotten...He's 29. I know that there are rebounds but I feel this may be a bad sign...should I cut him loose while he has value...I got him for 43k I'm sure I could sell him for a nice sum due to the formidable stamina and passable skills...I play three very nasty teams on my way out of the season, he won't play this week anyway because of his form. Should I sell him? Thanks |

i just did the same exect thing Qwikshot. I sold my 2 best defenders.
1 was 27 years old and was a solid defender/passable winger. the other one was 24 and he was a solid defender/inadequate winger. They got bought up by a daytrader and resold, overall i made about 360k off them. I then bought a solid goalie/a kick ass winger and a 17 year old solid winger/inadequate defending wingback trainee. I did this because i had almost no shot of winning my divison and i had second place all but locked. So i got rid of my old defenders and switched to a 3-5-2. Now in the 3-5-2 my defense rating isn't all that much different because of the solid goalie. I was getting a soild/excellent/excellent rating and this week i expect a solid/solid/solid. And now i don't have any old guys taking up training slots. so.... after all that my point is, YES! do it. Since you have a defensive coach you could very easily get away with 3 passable defenders and your excellent form passable goalie. I bet you'd still put up solid/excellent ratings. Your midfield is definetly your weak point, i say improve it ![]()

Id sell that 29 yo middie.
I assume you mean 200 - 350K total for both the defenders. If you dont need them to win your series I would sell them. However, unless you are really in need of a 3* middie I would use that money on a new trainee. Buy a 17 yo solid in whatever you train, then train him up to at least formidable. That will turn that 200 - 300K into a cool million. |

If you are going to a balanced 3-5-2, I would retain a good defender for the "exposed" side. With a backline of passable-passable-EXTRA IM-solid (with both wingbacks playing defensive), I can generally get an excellent-solid-solid out of them. Yeah, that's the excellent coming from the side where one passable is supported by another. If I had my druthers, I would love to have either a high solid or an excellent out there. That's assuming you are NOT going to train defense. If you are, I would consider something similar to Havok: try to get by on the strength of a good keeper and some passables (with the centreback on the side of the weaker wingback) while you're bringing them up to speed.
As far as the middie goes, I would sell him if you intend to train playmaking in the near future. On the other hand, if you 1) are NOT going to train playmaking and 2) do NOT have a good replacement for him, I might consider keeping him around and see if he'll rebound. His secondaries look pretty good and the defense will certainly help if you do end up switching to a 3-5-2 (overkill for a 4-5-1, in my opinion). Also, I don't know that a 29 year old with 4 weeks to go will fetch very much more than a 30 year old. And chances are his poor form will suppress resale value some. Although the possibility that you will be able to catch some lightning in a bottle with teams trying to bolster their lineup for the stretch run bidding him up proper is certainly there. Something to obviously bare in mind: Those ramblings are just my opinions, quite a bit of which doesn't match a lot of the conventions from the Big Book of Hattrick Do's and Don't's. And, obviously I play in a fairly lower level of football (IV.49 and IV.46 doesn't offer the same level of football). But, hopefully, it will at least offer you some different perspectives to consider while pondering your plans. |

Well I'm going into the 4-5-1 simply because I don't have another passable scorer.
I have a 20 yo goalie who is passable but I feel is a high passable, close to solid. I'm searching for a cheap passable striker to compliment Grewar. Pakdee is going on the transfer wire as we speak, I'm setting the bar high, but I'm not concerned if he doesn't get grabbed in a few weeks. Next question, I have a 29 yo winger, who has been very good for me, but I think its time for a youth movement...how crucial is it to have a winger better than passable...my winger Wolek is my only solid winger but I have two passables, and a third one in the wings. I'm exclusively going to PM simply because that is a wise move, and it is possible that I will have two solids before the end of the season, (or at least one solid and two good passables), they're young and multitalented, so, I'm strengthening a need as well as have 5 recruits that I can bolster. I'm no longer training defense, I figure I may be close with Sousa (who is just coming back from his injury but is a poor form now) and Noe who could be a phenom at Defensive Mid. Sousa is 25 and Noe is 22. Ike Noe 2 accumulated bookings 140 000 US$, 22 years, passable form Has wretched experience and inadequate leadership abilities [Powerful] Stamina: passable Keeper: disastrous Playmaking: inadequate Passing: weak Winger: inadequate Defending: solid Scoring: wretched Set Pieces: passable Leszek Wolen 60 000 US$, 29 years, passable form Has disastrous experience and inadequate leadership abilities Stamina: weak Keeper: disastrous Playmaking: inadequate Passing: inadequate Winger: solid Defending: poor Scoring: inadequate Set Pieces: passable Travis Sousa Bruised, but playing 58 000 US$, 24 years, poor form Has poor experience and passable leadership abilities Stamina: passable Keeper: wretched Playmaking: weak Passing: weak Winger: disastrous Defending: solid Scoring: weak Set Pieces: solid Who should I get rid of, who should I keep, I'm leaning towards Noe, but I feel that I could sell both Sousa and Noe and get enough money for a new stadium and to be out of debt...the key goals... If anyone wants to see their replacements I'll be more than happy to show them.

bump..plus I got my 2nd striker...at a nice price no less...
Atle Eide (12785957) 19 years, passable form, healthy A sympathetic guy who is calm and infamous. Has disastrous experience and solid leadership abilities. Nationality: Norge Assessed value: 39 000 US$ Stamina: poor Goaltending: disastrous Playmaking: poor Passing: poor Winger: inadequate Defending: poor Scoring: passable Set Pieces: wretched This guy is close, the bonus was that he was/is a psedo-clown. At 19, he'll help out Grewar. Price was 13k. Which brings me to my next question...why on Earth would you not want to train strikers? You can train 5 a week, they pop in a short amount of time, and a solid young striker to excellent young striker go for an easy amount of money (not as easy at a goalie, but the market doesn't seem as saturated with young strikers). Shame, I'll have to wait out on training forwards, but I'm glad I could get a passable cheap...just missed out on a 17 yo passable.

i'll be training forwards once i have some money to purchase quality trainees(probably early next season). I'll try and stack my midfield so i can get away with playing a 3-4-3 in my league matches. Mix in a week or two of passing for every three or four of scoring and i figure i'll be able to make some good money selling them. not to mention competing in my series over the next season or two

Yep, i've always said if i had to do it again, i'd train Goalie's.
But once i found out forwards pop in 6 weeks (with a solid coach) and the 3-4-3 is the second best formation in Hattrick. I think i'd train forwords.
