US vs. Brazil-Soccer

Not sure if anyone is interested but if you get Telefutura and don't mind watching in Spanish, the US National Team will be playing Brazil at 3.

Just thought I'd alert everyone now and can turn this into a discussion thread after.

Is Brazil dominating or has been pretty much even?

I think Brazil has held the ball for more time, the US hasn't really got anything going but they tend to play for the big counter-attack play. Also, check out ussoccer.com. It has a game center with updated play-by-play for any big chances or shots plus stats.

Sounds like Brazil has been dominating...

62% possession in favor of the South Americans.

Beerhalter was stripped in the middle of the field and the Howard charged and stopped one shot but the rebound was setting right there with an open net.

Looks like Arena doesnt care too much about the Conferation Cup. Well, it is a joke, but the US needs respect and losing another game would kill any chance of that

Good chance for Donovan just before the half but just wide. Could have been a PK, but I think it was the right call. The contact was afte he shot.

1-0 Final. A better second half by the US.

1-0 showing against Brazil isn't bad. Did Brazil field a fairly full team? (Obviously, Renaldo and Roberto Carlos are missing.)

No Rivaldo or Cafu. It was pretty much the 2nd string Brazilian team. Ronaldinho did play.

Cafu was the captain that missed last WC, right?

I suppose staying in the game with the 2nd teamers is less impressive, but I guess it still isn't bad with a team as stacked as Brazil.

Was the 0 a whimper or did they threaten and just couldn't break through?

They didn't have a lot of chances. At one point very late they only had 1 shot on target and only 5 total.

Brazil 2 is about the strength of a World Cup second rounder, I think.
Losing 1-0 (even in this unimportant competition) is not bad, though a loss is a loss...
Especially in soccer, 1-0 losses can look good, but when the opponent is the kind of team that doesn't go for a 2nd goal (Brazil usually isn't, but in unimportant tournament?), 0-1 is still a bad result, at least much worse then a last minute 1-2 loss.

Brazil had some of their stars though. So to call this "Brazil 2" is unrealistic.

What did everyone think of Tim Howard?

I didn't call this Brazil team a Brazil 2. (Rereading my post, I guess it seems that way though.)
I wanted to point out that if Brazil would play without its 23 best players, Brazil could still field a team of better players then almost every country in the world, except maybe the top5-10 European countries and Argentina.

The US is finished now, aren't they (at least effectively)? A disgraceful showing so far, IMHO. Clearly they are still second-tier, at best.
