New OOTP5 Dynasty - Texas Rangers 'Out of the gutter'
Well I just purchased OOTP5 yesterday and I've decided to write up a dynasty. I'm from Texas so I've followed the Rangers all my life, and am a devoted fan even though they suck right now. I remember back in the days when Kenny Rogers was good, Nolan Ryan was there, a young Juan Gonzalez and Pudge Rodriguez, a younger Ruben Sierra and they went to the playoffs and played the Yankees and lost every time. I remember when Kenny Rogers pitched his perfect game, because I was there
But anyways, lets get down to business. BREAKING NEWS!! Fort Worth, Texas - Breaking news out of Texas, as Ranger owner Tom Hicks suddenly sells the team to young billionaire Kevin Mitchell, an avid fan of the Rangers for a long, long time. When Kevin was asked about the future of the organization here's what he said "Well, right now, we need to focus on pitching, our hitting is set. We could compete this year, but eventually we're not going to score 10 runs a game, and have to out-pitch some people. We've got so many hitters we can change our lineup every day and still score alot of runs. I plan on trying to upgrade our pitching this season through trades, and through free agency and the draft in the off-season. But right now, we will focus on the task at hand, and that is putting together a ballclub capable of winning this year." The sell of the Rangers comes because Hicks wants to concentrate on his Dallas Stars. Mitchell believes that he can make the Rangers legitimate contenders within 2 years. He'll need a lot of pitching help then, Chan Ho Park just doesn't cut it anymore in the AL. **Next post will preview the team** |

First Basemen
Rafael Palmeiro (38 years old) - Raffy is close to the 500 club in home runs, he will definitely be the starter at 1st base come opening day. He will likely bat clean-up as well, sharing those duties with Juan Gonzalez. We expect a good 35+ dingers from him this year if he stays healthy. Mike Lamb (27 years old) - Mike is a solid hitter who will get on base when he bats alot of the time, but he is labeled as a very inconsistent player. If he plays regularly he will likely hit .300 and put up decent power numbers, but he's behind Palmeiro, and might get some duty at 3rd base, the outfield or at DH. Second Basemen Jermaine Clark (26 years old) - Really hasn't seen much playing time, and won't play a whole lot behind Mike Young here either. We might look at trading him away for some pitching, although he is a solid base runner and can draw walks with ease. Michael Young (26 years old) - Great defensive player, and a solid offensive player as well. Might be in the lead-off slot but its not for sure. We'll experiment at that slot in the line-up for the first weeks. Mike is going to be a fixture in our line-up for many years to come most likely. Shortstop Alex Rodriguez (27 years old) - Highly considered one the best all-around players in the league. Will start every day and bat 3rd in the line-up. Expecting a good 50 homer 120 RBI year. Third Basemen Mark Teixeira (21 years old) - Mark is a great prospect for the team, but behind another one on the same team in Hank Blalock. He will play alot, likely at first base with Palmeiro going to DH alot. Expect big things from Tex soon. Hank Blalock (22 years old) - He is also a great prospect, with half a year of big league experience under his belt. He's likely to be the regular starter at 3rd, with Tex getting some time there too. Outfielders Juan Gonzalez (33 years old) - Juan will be the starting right fielder easily, and we expect a big year for him seeing as its a contract year. Doug Glanville (32 years old) - Could possibly start in Center Field some of the time, and lead-off occasionally. Has great speed and can get on base sometimes. Carl Everett (31 years old) - He will start at center field or left field during the season. Might get some oppurtunities to bat lead-off with his speed and ability to get on-base. Ruben Sierra (37 years old) - He may be 37 but he's still going strong. We're still debating on whether it will be him starting or Glanville starting in his spot. Likely they will split time out there. Catchers Chad Kreuter (38 years old) - Likely not going to see much playing time behind Diaz and Todd Greene, but he might get some time behind the plate. Todd Greene (31 years old) - Will see some time, but won't be the main attraction at Catcher, that spot goes to Diaz. If Diaz struggles expect Greene to play. Einar Diaz (30 years old) - Will start at catcher, and barring any struggling, will play most of the time at that position. Record - 7-20 Overall Record - 7-20 Overall, not a very good start to the season, we didn't really start off that good at 1-9, and kept up horrible pace the rest of the month, THE GOOD Mark Teixeira - Tex is starting off the season great, batting a solid .309 with 3 home runs to go with 9 RBI. He's been playing DH so far. Ruben Sierra - Ruben is batting a solid .264 to go with 6 home runs and 16 RBI which both are second on the team. Rafael Palmeiro - Raffy isn't putting up a good average at .216 but he does have 7 dingers and 17 RBI. John Thomson - John is starting off well at 3-2 with a 4.93 ERA. At least one starter is doing decent. THE BAD Alex Rodriguez - A-Rod is only batting .248 with 5 home runs and 12 RBI, not a good start for the slugger. Michael Young - Mike is batting a measly .240 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI. Not very good for our lead-off man. Ugueth Urbina - Ugy is 0-3 with only 4 saves and a 3.63 ERA. The ERA isn't that bad but 3 losses and only 4 saves isn't good. THE UGLY Chan Ho Park - Chan Ho is a horrible 1-3 with a 6.54 ERA. This guy is way overpaid. Ismael Valdes - Ish is 1-4 with a 4.89 ERA. The ERA isn't too bad, doesn't look like he's getting any run support. Reynaldo Garcia - Reynaldo isn't fairing very well so far, he's 0-2 with a 13.30 ERA. C.J. Nitkowski C.J. is doing horrible, like Garcia with a 0-2 record and an 11.77 ERA. Esteban Yan Esteban really picked it up this month, to improve his record from 1-0 to 3-0 with a 3.89 ERA. THE BAD Alex Rodriguez A-Rod is still batting a low .254 with 11 HR and 29 RBI. He really needs to pick his BA up. Michael Young Mike is batting still a low .245 only 3 HR and 16 RBI. He really needs to pick everything up. John Thomson John went 1-4 in May and rose his ERA up to 6.83, not a good month for him. Ismael Valdes Ish still is doing bad with a 3-7 record and a 5.06 ERA. He's getting a lot of decisions though.
