Is this the best Baseball sim game to date? Please tell me better then Baseball Mogul Demo... What are some cool features? Are there real players and teams?

Well I just got it today and am enjoying the heck outta it. I havent even gotten past the initial draft yet. You can download the real rosters with real logos, etc from somewhere. The customization level is awesome. I like OOTP5 way more than Baseball Mogul 2002.

It's the best baseball sim out there, in my opinion.

It doesn't come with real players, but you can easily download them from the .400 studios message board.

Also if you choose to start a fictional league and need some logos, check out the OOTP Mods forum and click on Eugene Church Logo Requests thread. 90% of my league's logos came from that thread.

Is there an amateur draft?

Is it statistical realistic? or will we see guys hit 90 HR's... I saw on the screen three players had 20 game hit streaks... Which isnt so realistic...

Yes there is a amateur draft, you can have it at the beginning of the season or on June 1st. It is pretty realistic... if it's not, you can change the amount of total homeruns and stuff like that.... well worth it, buy the game

Best career baseball text sim since v2, imo. It keeps getting better and better. Although I have high hopes for MVP baseball next year on the consoles. I know the two don't compare, but I need a graphics fix every now and then.

Plus, great customer support and a decent community to boot.

I have been simming baseball games for 30 years (starting with apba and strat-o-matic) through every computer baseball game and nothing comes close to OOTP.

stats are "mostly" realistic (I say mostly because everything is adjustable - if you want to make a deadball league you can, likewise if you want 25-20 softball scores you can do that do)

the top things about OOTP.

1. it is fun
2. the community in unbelievable, there are hundreds of stadiums, roster, logos, etc - all created by third party people all for free.
3. lahman database – with the lahman database you can replay the entire history of baseball with the real players – all for free
4. everything is editable – the one thing that kills me about most sports games is the rigidity of it. In OOTP if you are the 3rd inning and notice that the opposing OF who in real life is having a breakout season is way underrated, a few clicks and you can update him to what you think he should be.
5. online leagues – hundreds of active leagues of all kinds, modern, historical, fantasy.

Bottom line – if the game was $100 it would be a bargain. I have tried all the others mogul, diamond mind, strat, pure sim, etc. nothing else is close.

By the way CM stands for Championship Manager.

You must have not visted this board much over the past three years to not know what that stands for.

Perfectly said. To me, #1 is the key (but #3 is the most important thing). And #5 is just an incredible bonus and a whole different dynamics than solo OOTP. There are probably hundreds of OOTP leagues (there is even one on the gonegold forum) and most FOFCers are involved in at least one OOTP league.

Championship Manager is a soccer text sim. There are quite a few people who consider it to be the best text sim ever, bar none. There are still others who have just never gotten into it. If you are a baseball fan, by all means OOTP5 should be a good purchase for you.

I would also recommend that when the newness of OOTP5 wears off (if it wears off) you should give CM a shot. You really don't have to know a lot about soccer to enjoy the game, and it is not uncommon for people to become fans of the sport because of CM. The games depth is impressive, and perhaps a little overwhelming at first. I have heard several stories of people having to try the game 2 or 3 times before they really got into it, but then when they did, they were hooked. I'm one of those.

As I said, OOTP5 should be a good purchase for you and I hope you enjoy it.

Buzz... whats the website? Running on a tight budget here, and want to spend some time OUTSIDE(its finally sunny in New York, after about 1 week ago where 40 out of 28 days were rain!)and don't want to many games to consume my time... I hate being a coach potatio spending 10 hours on the PC. I signed up for Hattrick and like it... is SM Single Player? I also signed up for that College Football Sim, and will buy this, then NCAA 2004 comes out, so I think I'm set for a long while...Still am interested in CM4 though...

The current version is CM4. One drawback is that is isn't distributed in the US and isn't available as a download. However, there are websites such as gogamer.com who will ship to the US.

In my opinion the SI website isn't tremendously easy to navigate, but I've never really tried very hard either.

There are numerous sites dedicated to CM. One is www.thedugout.net and it has links to others.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

By the way, there is a CM4 demo if you want to give it a shot.

I am also an OOTP noob, and would possibly be interested in trying out an online league if it had the right feel to it.

That's of course if I can get away from my Royals dynasty on WSB2K3.

BSak and myself are the the league's commisioners (although we seem to rotate commishes every few years). We are in the midst of the 2008 season, after beginning in 2002 in April or May of last season. The messageboard is very active and we have a lot of sportswriters to "critique" different aspects of the league. We are all full right now, but feel free to poke around and ask questions on the messageboard, and if you like our league, send me an email and I can put you on a waiting list.

There are at least two other FOFC-based leagues out there, including the famed FOBL.

Unbelievably I think we have the Yankees open in the one I play in. Would certainly be an easy way to learn with all that talent and money.

Well, I took a look and they have 1m cash and are 22mil over the cap. There's definately some work to do; it won't be a sit and watch situation. Looks nice. I applied for the team. Here's hoping I get them.
