TCFA Dynasty: Kennesaw State Owls

Tailgater's College Football Association

TCFA is a new college football sim that has already been taken over by the FOFC community. I thought I'd try a dynasty on it for something new.

Kennesaw State University is the current school I'm attending in RL so I'm using them for the game also. I created them as a lower prestige team with the hopes of building them into a powerhouse. I put them directly in the middle for Academic and Party Ratings.

It will be hard to get really in-depth with this dynasty, since we will only be getting score results and no statistics. I'll try to make it interesting by reporting on the whole league.

Owls Hire McGillicuddy As Coach For Inaugural Season

Kennesaw State University student Larry McGillicuddy has been hired to lead the Owls football program in the first season of the TCFA. Many prognosticators have predicted a rough season for KSU, but McGillicuddy is confident that the program will be successful in the long run.

To ensure long term stability, McGillicuddy has suggested accepting an invitation to a regional conference that is developing in the south. KSU administration has yet to formally accept the invite but it is expected that they soon will.

"Joining a conference will help us long term in scheduling and recruiting," said McGillicuddy. "It will develop strong rivalries between nearby schools that could be long lasting. I am confident that the school will accept the invitation."

TCFA Preview 2003

Team: Kennesaw State University
Head Coach: Larry McGillicuddy

QB's - The Owls will have some trouble at QB this season. Neither Pilon or Freshman Houge are very good, but Houge has some promise for the future. For now, Coach McGillicuddy will have to call lots of handoffs.

Grade: D

RB's - The Owls have two promising runners in Chet Moon and Nigel Donoghue. The Owls better hope they stay healthy because there isn't alot of depth. One problem will be finding a blocker as neither of the Owls FB's can do the job.

Grade: B+

Receivers - Sophomore Marcel Schwager is the cream of this crop, and he's not very good. Henry Kupfer and Tim Crone will fight for the #2 job, but don't expect them to catch many balls. KSU has two promising TE's, though in Sophomores Doyle Kimbrough and and Chadwick Congdon.

Grade: D+

Offensive Line - One of the Owls best players is Sophomore Corton Hartwell, and he will anchor a decent line that includes Leandro Kula, Junior Otis Concannon, and Sophomore Charlie Hinck. Unfortunately, the 5th spot is a glaring weak spot.

Grade: C+

Defensive Line - The Owls line is very weakas they only have three guys that can play at all. There is hope for the future as their top two players, Freshmen Ira Huie and Cruz Newquist, will be around for a while.

Grade: D+

Linebacker - KSU has a strong future here as well with Freshman Mitch Bruff and Sophomore Augustine Kibbe. They are lacking in depth for this season, though.

Grade: C

Defensive Backs - KSU doesn't have any standout players at this position, but they do have OK depth that will help against pass heavy teams.

Grade: C-

Kicker - Freshman Cruz Aeschlimann is the kicker. As Casey McCall would say, he can't kick.

Grade: F

SportsBuzz Pre-Season Top 10

1. Shaolin

Shaolin has the best defense in the nation, and defense wins championships. Balanced offense is more than adequate.

2. Wichita Falls

Wichita Falls has plenty of standout players, but also some gaps to fill behind those standouts. Best kicker in the nation.

3. Dorchester

Great defense and best TE tandem in the country.

4. Saint Paul State

Superstar Halfback and strong defense, but weakness at QB could hurt.

5. Seagrove State

Best offensive line in the country and great skill players, but weakness at QB and thin front 7 could hurt.

6. Notre Dame

Best trio of WR's in the nation, but question mark at QB. Also has a great OL. Defense will be a problem.

7. District of Columbia

Great skill players on offense, but OL will hold them back some what. Will also be hurt on the defensive side.

8. Oklahoma

Strong all around offense, but defense will be very easy to pass on.

9. Midlothian

Best Fullback in the nation leads an otherwise average offense. Defense, especially a strong front seven, will have to carry this team.

10. Texas

Best QB in the nation needs more weapons and a better offensive line. The secondary is strong, but the front seven needs some work.

Also Receiving Votes: Downriver, East Popcorn State

You have a very good Freshman DB and Sophomore OL that have a chance to make the list in the future.

I don't even have one guy in double digits.

KSU Joins Conference, Schedules Scrimmage

KSU's President has formally accepted the invitation to the Southern 9 Conference. This announcement was expected, as Head Coach Larry McGillicuddy was adamnant about getting the Owls into a conference to ensure long term stability and progress.

Kennesaw State will be joining ACC Univeristy, University of Arkansas, University of Bartlett, Louisiana Cyclone University, University of Memphis, University of Ponte Vedra Beach, Shaolin University, and University of North Carolina in the new conference.

Coach McGillicuddy also announced that the Owls will be travelling to New York to take on the French University of New York in a preseason scrimmage this week.

Preseason Scrimmage: Kennesaw State at French University of New York

Going into this game, it looks like we match up well depite being a level of prestige lower in talent. Our strength is the running game and their front 7 looks weak. Since my passing game is inept and I don't have a good Fullback, I decided to play both halfbacks and use a two Tight End formation to make up for the lack of blocking.

As for my defense, I don't really have much choice. I don't have a decent 4th DL or a 4th LB, so I'll be forced to run a 3-3-5. This doesn't seem too bad, as the passing game is the strength of their offense. Again, it looks like we match up well.

Lineup:

QB Bradley Houge
HB Chet Moon
HB Nigel Donoghue
WR Marcel Schwager
TE Chadwick Congdon
TE Doyle Kimbrough
OL Leandro Kula
OL Otis Concannon
OL Tobias Abston
OL Colton Hartwell
OL Charlie Hinck

DL Cruz Newquist
DL Ignacio Clem
DL Ira Huie
LB Augustine Kibbe
LB TJ Castaldi
LB Mitch Bruff
DB Garland Obermiller
DB Darwin Scherbath
DB Heriberto Bjelland
DB Alton Sada
DB Clarence Dones

K Cruz Aeschlimann

Game Result:

Team 1 2 3 4 OT TOTAL
KSU 0 0 0 0 0 0
FUNY 0 13 14 14 0 41

Comments: Ouch. I guess we didn't match up well. It's hard to tell how my guys did individually because this is all we see. I think it's safe to say that most of them stunk up the place.

FUNY used a two tight end formation as well, but theirs had one back and two wideouts. I think it's safe to say his TE Grado (10) and WR Christiano (8) probably burned my secondary that didn't have anyone rated higher than 3. Playing 5 DB's doesn't matter if they all suck.

FUNY stopped my offense with a 3-4 formation and his DL Mohar and LB Holeman must have had a big day to stop my running attack because the rest of the front 7 is as sorry as most of my team. Then again, his fairly strong secondary probably played pretty close to the line as they certainly weren't scared of my passing attack.

It's going to be a long season, but we are committed to the rebuilding process.

Next Week: We host ACC University in a Southern 9 Conference Game. ACCU is a prestige 1 level team also, so it'll be interesting to see how good we can play against a team that is evenly matched with us.

Preseason Scrimmage Report

1. Shaolin lost to Dean 28-21
2. Wichita Falls
3. Dorchester
4. Saint Paul State
5. Seagrove State
6. Notre Dame
7. District of Columbia
8. Oklahoma defeated UW-West Bend 48-0
9. Midlothian defeated Miskatonic 10-0
10. Texas deafeated UMASS 42-3

The Shaolin loss was quite a shock as Dean is only a prestige level 3 team. This does not bode well for Shaolin, and makes the Southern 9 Championship a little more open than expected. As this was just a scrimmage, it won't affect the rankings, but Shaolin better get it together for the regular season.

Other games:

Boston College 23, Frankenstein 0
San Antonio 45, UC-Sunnydale 16
Oklahoma 48, UW-West Bend 0

TCFA Week One

This week, we play our first regular season game, a Southern 9 Conference home game against ACC University. Last week we were humiliated 41-0 by a prestige 2 team. We will be using the same lineup this week as we still feel it is our best.

QB Bradley Houge
HB Chet Moon
HB Nigel Donoghue
WR Marcel Schwager
TE Chadwick Congdon
TE Doyle Kimbrough
OL Leandro Kula
OL Otis Concannon
OL Tobias Abston
OL Colton Hartwell
OL Charlie Hinck

DL Cruz Newquist
DL Ignacio Clem
DL Ira Huie
LB Augustine Kibbe
LB TJ Castaldi
LB Mitch Bruff
DB Garland Obermiller
DB Darwin Scherbath
DB Heriberto Bjelland
DB Alton Sada
DB Clarence Dones

K Cruz Aeschlimann

For training purposes, we divided time preparing for the future and attending to immediate needs. We trained QB Houge because a passing game will be needed. We also trained K Aeschlimann, whose SK of 0 was just not gonna cut it for a whole season. We also trained Bjelland and Newquist to set them up as potential stars in the future.

As for coaching, we looked to people who will need to lead the team next year. Therefore we coached HB Donoghue, OL Concannon, DB Obermiller, and DB Alton.

In an agreement with our opponents, we each bet 3 BRP's on this game.

ACCU at Kennesaw State

Team 1 2 3 4 OT TOTAL
ACCU 0 0 0 0 0 0
Kennesaw St. 17 0 10 0 0 27

Statistics Kennesaw St. ACCU
Rushing Yards 159 57
Pass Completion Pct. 56% 57%
Passing Yards 80 94
Total Yards 239 151
Sacks 1 0
Interceptions 1 2
% of Posession 60% 40%

ACCU used a standard pro-set offense and it wasn't enough to get past our defense. We were able to hold them to only 57 yards on the ground despite only playing 3 DL's and 3 LB's. On defense, ACC played a 3-4 formation and we were able to run right through it for 159 yards and control possession for 60% of the game.

This is a good win for us but it could be our only win as the schedule is not very favorable.

Team MVP for the Week - DL Cruz Newquist and DL Ira Huie who led the charge in stopping ACCU's running game.

SportsBuzz Week One Scoreboard.

1. Shaolin (1-0) shook off a subpar preseason scrimmage and lived up to their #1 ranking with a 28-0 thrashing of North Carolina. Shaolin's offense racked up 494 total yards and the defense collected 8 INT's and 3 Sacks.

3. Dorchester was idle.
4. Saint Paul State (1-0) beat Minnesota Northern in what amounted to a walkover matchup because their opponent didn't show.
5. Seagrove State was idle.
6. Notre Dame was idle.
7. District of Columbia (1-0) passed for 450 yards and ran for another 150 as they beat UW-West Bend 45-13.

Nice write-up Larry. I thought I'd do a dynasty as well, but really can't be bothered...

And nice bounce back from last week's trashing... You'll be happy to know that I beat a prestige 3 school this week.

A prestige 2 team.
