San Diego is a gorgious place to live, but you have to pick the right areas to get your apt/house in, live in La Mesa, Old Town, or any of the towns on the North side of the city, stay away from downtown and ANYTHING south. You might as well be living in tiajuana if you do that.

There are so many places to go and things to do. I loved my 3 years there.

What kind of rent could you expect? How about buying housing? I used to live in Honolulu, and am thinking I either want to move back there, or try San Diego.
Honolulu was just crazy expensive to live, but being able to see Diamond Head and the Koolau's out my lanai, well, it was worth it.

It's like an inch from Mexico. I'm sure the crime rate and other unsavory things occur in much greater frequency.

San Diego itself is so gorgeous though. It's where I will be permanently moving as soon as I can.

Any area in California is going to be way expensive. My grandma sold her 5 room house for something like 500,000 in Manhattan Beach.... That gives you a small idea of how expensive it is there.... I'm not really sure about San Diego though, it might be a little better.

My brother just moved there to be with his girlfriend after college. He is still living with her parents because the two of them cannot afford an apartment on what they earn from two full time jobs. They tell me San Diego is "LA expensive"

I've lived in San Diego nearly all my life. Ask more detailed questions and I'll do my best to answer.

In general, living south of the city is not bad. Of course, there are good and bad areas in all parts of town. Many areas south of downtown are newly developed and very nice communities. If you're looking for very cheap areas of town, go either way to the north part of the county (Oceanside, Vista, Escondido), or to the eastern areas (El Cajon). Most other areas are pretty damned expensive. One bedroom apartments in good neighborhoods relatively close to downtown can reach over $1000 per month. Its still almost cheaper to buy a one bedroom condo than to rent a one bedroom apartment. Homes with 2 or 3 bedrooms in decent (not exactly nice, just decent) neighborhoods can easily sell for $350,000 +.

All-in-all though, its a great place to live.

Here is my thing from the DFW topic. Just go off this.

Seems like their is alot to do. You have your sports (Mavs, Rangers, Cowgirls (hey, it's NFL Football), Stars, Burn and a few minor league teams, as well as your college sports). Arlington seems like a "day out" kind of spot, with the Six Flags theme and water parks and the ballpark. You have recreation their. Shopping is no shortage, it's always plentiful. Restaurant dining is the largest per capita in the country, no probs their . I never been to the Arts District, not sure where it is, but seems good. Have a major airline hub, as well as Love Field. Schools seem really good.
