Okay, I've been around these communities since about FOF being around about 7 or 8 months or so...I think the first patch or the 1999 draft had just been published.
Who here are our super veterans that have been around since the earliest stages of FOF? Out of curiosity. |

I came in just before FOF2 was released, but was suitably scared by the regulars into just lurking. But damnation was that a pretty site.

I think I came in at the same time as NoMyths.. I was lookin for a text sports sim and almost bought the original FOF until I visited this board and found out the new release would be coming out shortly..
Good times..

I don't remember when I signed up with the original board. I think it was shortly after the original batch of FOF sold out, and I was trying to find a used copy to buy. I just remember I was shocked to run into Dave Dial again, after being in a FPSBB '96 league with him. Zē+ was in that league also, and in this board. So I guess it's been over 4 years since I first starting hanging out with this pathet... oops, I mean great group of guys.

If I remember correctly, I've been around since somewhere in early 1999.. Of course I've never been much of a poster, but thats because I'm not made of paper, or exciting. All together I've been around probably 3.5 years. Its been a very interesting ride, to say the least. Watching this board grow and evolve as much as it has has been both a mild surprise and a case of serendipity.
And speaking of posters and the like, thats two for me today.. Damn this carpal tunnel..

I think I qualify as a super veteran. I came on shortly after the first site was launched - so much so that Tony made me a mod before the launch of FOF2.

Count me in with NoMyths in the group that came just before FOF2 came out. I bought FOF2 the first day it came out and lurked a bit on that old site. If I remember correctly, I had a few political-type debates with NoMyths back in the day.

I dont post much, but I have been around. I think I came over to the original site when it first opened. I was an irregular poster over at the high heat baseball forums when Tony told us about a new site he was going to open about a football text sim. Before that point I didnt even know that text sims existed.

I played the demo for FOF and remember the board before it moved out on it's own. For the most part, I've been a lurker until close to a year ago.

I started frequenting The Sideline just before Jim patched the first FOF. My posts back in those days were limited to a couple rants against EA and Digital River.

I've been around since the original FOF. I read about it in the Newsgroups & that lead me to the boards. I registered under a different name back then. I think it was tradermatt or something. At any rate, I never posted, just lurked. Didn't join here until I got involved in Hattrick, in January I believe.

I must be honest though. I haven't played any FOF (or FOF-related product) other than FOF1 and FOF2 for more than 30 minutes. FOF2001 crashed my computer every time I tried to play it (and I got Champ Man for the first time). TCY. I tried it, but never got into it. I felt that managing the time and all that was too much effort and I never really got to "know" my players or get a feel for the team. If there was a "coach" mode I could have, but since they were only around for a max of 4 years, I just couldn't do it. FOF4. Haven't had time.
Weird how the amount of posting I do here is inversely proportional to the amount I play the games.

I joined when TCY first came out. Not that this makes me any sort of veteran, but what makes it interesting is that some guy came around the same time I did and was always posting about how great University of Texas football was. The sad thing is that I think he scared off a guy named Devaneyfan who was a very strong contributer to the board. (I dunno, maybe Devaneyfan left for other reasons)

I joined shortly after TCY came out, and I echo these sentiments as well. DevaneyFan did a bunch of great things with TCY, and then took off after the whole Horns fiasco. It was too bad...

I am sorry. I was not very clear there. I bought FOF1 and started lurking at the Sideline just about the time Jim released his patch. I refused to buy FOF2 when it was released because I trusted neither EA nor DR to support the product. That is when I started actively posting there...just a few rants for the most part.

I stumbled on to FOF not too long after the original game came out. I was looking for info on football games while waiting for the much-delayed and plagued Football Pro '99. In 1998, I couldn't justify spending that much money sight unseen on a football game published by a guy out of his garage. So I waited for Sierra's game. Good call.
I finally decided that I would take a chance and order FOF1, but that was just after the game sold out. I lurked on FOF.com for a long time. I don't think I first posted until shortly before FOF2 came out. I also started visiting comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.sports about that same time. |

I honestly don't remember a specific month/year, but I know that I was registered at The Sideline and lurked on and off for a while. I recall not being very active and being totally in the dark when the whole move happened. I know I joined after the original FOF was sold out, but don't recall if I joined before or after FOF2 was released.
What was the timeline? When did The Sideline revolt occur, and what version of the game was released at that point and for how long? It all seems like a blur to me now...

I started lurking right after TCY came out. I can remember Devaneyfan and several others (I think Hell Atlantic, SackAttack, Godzilla Blitz, and others that I can't recall) doing some intensive testing on how the time management aspect of TCY worked. If I remember correctly, they were waiting for the first patch to come out, and while they were waiting decided to do some serious testing. I think they identified a study hall bug (among others) where setting study hall to 14 was actually more effective than setting it at a higher rate. I missed the whole Devaneyfan vs. Horns segment, but wish that someone knew how to contact him and invite him back since Horns is banned. I actually registered so that I could defend my state's honor. WSUCougar started the Place of Places Tourney. Unfortunately the great state of Georgia was eliminated by "lowly" West Virginia. Damn you Swaggs and Anxiety!!
