Hattrick Cup Version 4

Well since HFP hasnt been around awhile, I figured I would start this threat to get the ball rolling.

Lets get some discussion going here about limits, etc, etc, etc.

We'll need some volunteers, that's for sure. I'll still be at sea, HFP is missing, and most importantly, this will be during football season. I know Frogman is going to sit this one out.

Any takers?

It might be easier, and shorter, if we break into 2 divisions and have upper champ and lower champ or somesuch. Maybe more volunteers if the work is cut in half, as well.

Well, I don't know about my free time.

It might open up a bit if this new business I am trying pans out for me.

With the experience changes, I for one, would like to play international friendlies. If there's any way we could incorporate that into the cup, I'd be grateful.

As ardent is saying, I won't be available to run anything for FOFC Cup IV. I we start the cup at the same point as last season, which means right after the week 6 league games, this would put us on Wednesday September 3rd. I'm an avid fantasy footballer, and to keep the rankings updated, take care of my HT team, and my 2 or 3 FF teams will take enough of my time this fall...

I'd still want to take part in the cup as a team, I just won't be running it, or updating its website. If anybody wants to get the excel spreadsheet I used to keep track (and subsequently do the website) of FOFC Cup III, PM me and I'll send it over...

I'll try it. I won't be able to do a site or anything, but I can try to set up the cup. Of course I could probably use some help.

illini, not sure if you have access to Excel, but if you do, setting up the webpages is as easy as doing a "Save as...", especially with MS Office XP...

I have home XP, but I know nothing about setting up web pages unless it's like this one taht I've tried to make, but that just has type this here, put a picture here, etc. But you have to follow a set template, so that would make it hard to do standings etc. Unless maybe I could take a screenshot of the stadnings, and post it as a pic.....hmmmm that might work.

Hmmm, I wouldnt mind helping with the cup, but I cannot guarantee finishing the cup

I think before we decide on volunteers, we need to reach a consensus. How many groups, weeks, etc. how should the playoffs work....etc

I think we should use a NCAA B-ball tourney format. We take the top 64 teams will go to the big dance. The rest of the teams will go to the NIT tournament. We would use Frogman's ranking to give the seedings and placement.

It will make the tournament short and still make it fun to participate in. Should make it easy to organize in the format I have proposed.

dola,

I say we do it like this:

starting in week 6

The top 64 teams at the end of last year (removing anyone who doesn't want in or in the real cup, and such)

16 divisions of 4 teams. round robin. (weeks 6, 7, 8)

Top 2 teams from each division go into 8 divisions of 4 teams (based on points). Round robin. (weeks 9, 10, 11)

top team from each group does single elimination (weeks 12, 13, 14)

The other 50 some odd teams (65 and lower who aren't in the cup) can do a lower half tourney along the same lines if they'd like.

I can try and keep up with stats and stuff as well if I can find the time (probably with help, illini)

I like the idea of the top 64 teams cause that means that the teams have been run, and won't be walkovers (hopefully) like that problem with last year's cup.

There were teams in the top 64 that gave walkovers, but it should help. If we do go with the 64 team single elimination method walkovers won't become as much of an issue.

if you do it that way are you going to do #1 vs #64, #2 vs. #63?

That would stink pretty bad for the people not in the top 40 as they'd stand no chance of winning. Those players would probably want a group set-up instead

I like both the group play, and the non-group play. I think the biggest benefit, is the fact that you are guaranteed at least 5 weeks of friendlies.

I'd like to set it up to be as short as possible... I want to play international friendly's at home with cup rules to make money and get more experience... the FOFC cup really hinders that... I don't need group play, and wouldn't be upset to give the top 25 byes to allow the cup to be shortened... just my take though.
