Why does ESPN.com take so long to load anymore?

What's the deal? It's table me over a minute to pull the site up and that's with a DSL.

Is all the little Goodie Crap they've thrown in the site slowing things up or what? My Goodness..

That's why I rarely go there anymore. I used to have ESPN.com as my home page, but now I just visit there two or three times a week...

So I'm not the only one ... It's taken me well over a minute on my cable modem at home, and work connection.

Yep, it's that new ESPNmotion stuff. It tries to load a video each time you hit the homepage.

I was wondering the same thing. I thought it might have something to so with the pop-up blocker I recently installed, since ESPN has a pop-up on every page. Getting to an article isn't all that bad, but trying to get back to the page I came from takes forever, and sometimes just stalls.

I have the same problem with CNN.

Probably all the super cool ads they have on there now. My favorite is the homepage ad that pushes everything on the main page down until you close it. Sweet stuff!!

I know, what the hell is that? The first couple of time that happened I thought something was wrong with my mouse or my keyboard. The damn page kept moving down....

It's why I bookmarked the "lite" version of the site. And even then the new format for the ad at the top of the page wrecks the load at least 1/3 of the time.

ESPN's page is slow about half the time for me as well. If I go directly into a section of their website it works fine though.

CBS Sportsline & TV Guide use similar ads to ESPN's. Annoying as shit....

At work, espn.com just doesn't load anymore. At home, it's ok with cable modem. Methinks they need 1) to get off of MSN and 2) do away with many of the bandwidth hogging crap.

Incidently, I cannot even get to www.sportingnews.com at work unfortunately (for some reason, it just hangs). I'm having to go to Foxsports to check on things. Ugh.

I have the same problem with TSN... it's very frustrating. Damned internet companies are trying so hard to maximize their advertising dollars that they're driving everyone off... pretty soon we're all gonna go back to reading the newspaper.

I've been using them more and more since E$PN started sucking.

Pretty good information, and often updated quicker than ESPN (several recent MLB trades were on TSN long before I saw them on ESPN).

I find that it's horribly slow on any page dealing with an index. Linking to stories off the main page or trying to go to the MLB main page is just excruciating. It gets faster on subpages, but not much. The lite version blows. It's just a little too far behind the news.

This is hilarious, I was thinking the same thing today and considering what new site I should use for baseball/hockey/racing etc.. The only other thing to go back to ESPN for is Neyer, and since he is not new everyday I can catch up once a week and take the pop ups and slow loads.

If you use Netscape or Opera- it doesn't try to load that garbage

As SI said, with Opera, you can turn off plug-ins (mainly the irritating Flash crap) and java easily. I'm pretty sure you can do it in IE as well for those who would prefer to stay that way. I think it's buried under 'Internet Options', though.
