Stars vs. NSI

In my last league game my team put up a 69 NSI rating, this was a HUGE jump from my previous best of 58 the week before, neither game was MOTS or PICed. In my league game my team put up a total of 29.5 stars, in the first cup game of the season my team put up the same exact 29.5 stars. In the cup game I put up a 57 on the NSI, it was a PIC but I thought that PIC only really affected the midfield by 1 level, so in theory with the same stars and same preformance my team should only put up an NSI of 60. Somehow my team managed to find 9 NSI points lying around somewhere. Does this go to show that the star count from really means very little in how the teams ratings are calculated? Have any of you ever experienced similar things or have any thoughts on Stars vs. NSI?

Also the team I was playing against this past weekend put up 36 stars! 6.5 more than me, yet he still lost 3-1, and his NSI was a 72


Edit: When writing this I completely forgot about a very important factor- Team spirit (PIC in the cup), is team spirit the only reason for the huge increase in my teams ratings?

Keep in mind, that the reason you PIC is so it will benefit you in your next match. So, yes you may have lost a midfield level in hte game you PICed (which is part of the reason for the ratings difference), but with increased TS you also get a better midfield that you would have if you hadn't PICed. Team Spirit has a huge effect on your midfield rating.

That fact that the first was a road game and the second was at home also made a difference.

Interestingly or maybe appropriately enough, I'm a supporter of the Burnt Out Koalas in Oceania (my spelling is probably WAY off, but at this point, I'm not concerned, so long as i remain UNDEFEATED!). This was in my most recent BOK newsletter:

Game 1 BOKs played offensive wingback same side as offensive winger WB pulled 3.5 stars winger 4.5 Stars, word rating for wing attack Mythical.

Game 2 Sydney Uni played the same formation WB pulled 4 stars winger pulled 5.5 stars, word rating for wing attack World Class.

Thats four levels of word ratings difference, stars dont always tell the story.

Stars only tell how well a player performs at his position. Most every position contributes to more than one rating, So what stars don't tell you is where the player contributed the post.

For one, the news letter doesn't even address the difference in strikers for each match (which plays a bigger role than the wingback). BOKs' winger may have had better winger/passing thus contributing more to the wing attack. While at the same time Sydney U may have a winger with far better playmaking and worse winger/passing. See, so stars still gauge how well they perform at their position, but winger 2 may be contributing more to a different area. Now of course this is just all speculation as I know nothing about these teams' wingers. However, I would say it's something along these lines.

On a related note...how many of you use star performance to determine starters when you have two players with similar abilities?

My example is thus...I run a 3-4-3 in friendlies and easily winnable games usually, and in league this week I did so as well. However, my normal 3-5-2 is for tough games, one of which I have in the cup this week. So I'm sitting a forward, and I can't decide which one. Here's their info:

Chad Cahill

My starters are usually Cahill and Rijnders, but I'm not sure who I should run with this week. Any ideas? Also, if you want to expound upon your theories of how you choose between similar players, that would be cool as well.

I'd start Rijnders and Nguyen. Rijnders because he's solid/passable which is better then the other two and he is only one form rating behind Nguyen and the same form ratings as Cahill. I'd play Rijnders because his form is one level higher then Cahill which I think is better the Cahill's one level higher passing.

What is the drop from Cahill to your next SP guy? Also, what is the weather going to be, since that may have affected Nguyen and given him that extra 1/2 star.

Good point...other than Cahill I have one Passable SP, and a couple Inadequates. The weather the last game was Overcast with no rain...today calls for more of the same.
