OT: Replacing CDs
Ok I thought I'd just throw this out there and see if any of you had ever had something like this. I recently purchased a CD at a local FYE and have had it for a week. The CD was fine for about a week but now everytime I play it, the songs are all choppy as though the CD is scratched all over, but the CD itself is clean.
I was hoping I could get the record company to send me a replacement (do they even do that?) because I now believe this CD is defective because I didn't do anything to damage the CD and never left it laying around, etc. Anyone know if I can get a replacement from Capitol? If so, to whom do I direct my inquiry? Thanks for the input.

If you have only had it for a week, just bring it back to the store and ask for an exchange.

Yeah, you won't get your money back, but if it skips and doesn't look scratched, they'll likely give you a new one. If that doesn't work, then try Capitol.
If that doesn't work, try appealing to the artist. This actually happened to a fan of The Galactic Cowboys. He bought one of their CDs from Metal Blade and it was defective. MB either refused to replace it or failed to send another copy, so he emailed the band about what happened. The band not only sent him their entire catalog (and autographed each of them), but a couple of the main members wrote and recorded a song just for him, called, "You Got the Shaft," and sent it to him on a CD-R, along with about 8 or 9 alternate, live, or unreleased GC songs. It has now made its rounds among GC fans as a bootleg, appropriately titled, "You Got the Shaft!" Of course, I doubt most bands are as cool as GC (was, sniffle sniffle).

Well I can't do that for two reasons: a) I threw out the receipt (yeah I know) and b) I bought the CD in CT and now I've moved back into my apartment at school in PA. :-( Thanks for the suggestion though.

download the mp3's and burn them on a CD. Your allowed to have them so long as you own the original.

You might not even have to do that....Copy the CD to your hard drive and see if it does the trick. I had a scratched CD, and when I copied it to a new CD, the skip was gone. Amazing.

The number to call if you beleive the CD is defective will be printed somewhere in the CD liner notes/artwork. I once purchased a CD and lost the receipt before realizing it was defective (the CD looked absolutely fine, but 1 track skipped constantly). I called the number, told them about it, they sent me a prepaid mailer and I sent it out. In a week or two they mailed me a new CD.
