FOF dynasty options

Well today is the day. I should arrive home tonight to my FOF4 CD. I will need to install it, and then apply the patch from the Solecismic site correct?

My question is after that, what options will I have to start a career. More specificially. Will I be able to walk away and let the thing sim a season or more without input from me? Will I be able to change which team I control? in between seasons? at any time in the season? Just curious how it works.

For some strange reason I was considering simming a dozen seasons or so, and then picking up the reigns of a broken down team and try to bring them to the top. My reasoning for simming the first ten or twelve seasons is so that there will be a sense of history in my OPU. I don't want some guy that runs for 1200 yards to be the the career yardage leader for my league.

Just curious what options I will have available.

You can only "Try" to change teams at the beginning of each season. If there are any jobs open.

Not sure about the simming seasons. I haven't played the game that way.

If you write a dynasty, it's a lot of work. (Just check out my FOFC Wrestling Dynasty. With a website on the way.) But I think you will like playing the game that way. You tend to get to know your players more if you write about them. Hope this helps.

Yes, you can sim an entire season if you set it so that that the CPU handles all of the team's functions (depth chart, game plan, fill roster).

You can sim 1 season at a time if you want. Be sure to have your coaches and scouts set up to do everything (most importantly, adjusting your depth charts and managing your roster). If you try to sim without these options, the game will stop everytime an injury occurs, which causes an error in your depth charts.

I believe on the sim screen the button says, "Sim entire season including playoffs"

At that point, you will have to hit a button to proceed to the next year, then click the buttons to advance through each phase of the offseason. You will have to be controlling a team during this simming process, but you really dont have to do anything besides click the buttons at this point.

There is always the chance to get fired, but it is rare. the biggest concern is that your performance will be so bad after 12 years of letting your scouts run things and not signing FA's during the 20 step process, that no team will want to hire you after 12 seasons.

The whole process of simming a dozen seasons shouldnt take you more than 30 minutes I would guess, but it might be wasted minutes if a team will not hire you after 12 really really bad seasons. Maybe somebody else can chime in on this point if they have tried this recently.

I used to do this in FOF2001, but I would start with a really good team that wuold make the playoffs without any human controlled actions. It would boost my performance enough to at least be able to take over an expansion team. Sadly, expansion is no longer a part of the game, and I miss that a lot.

Enjoy!

As others have said, there is an option for "choosing another team" at the beginning of each season, but it is dependent on how well you've done. You have to pick a team at the beginning of the game, so by just letting the sim engine run for a dozen years, your team will probably be crappy and you won't have much luck getting a job with another team.

Some thoughts:
Play at the most difficult level. You can't change this after the game starts, and ten years down the road you will be regret having started at anything less than the most difficult level.

Since it’s your first game, you might just play with a cruddy team from the start of the game, and use it as a learning experience. After about ten seasons, you’ll probably have a pretty good team, and can switch to another team at that point. Then you could go “empty cupboard” and cut everyone from the new team, and only have players on your team that enter the gameworld from that point in time (i.e. year one you only have rookies, year two you can have players with 1-2 years experience, etc.). You might want to turn firings off if you plan to switch teams and try an empty cupboard.

Another thought would be to just sim out ten years then cut everyone currently on your team, and do an "empty cupboard" that way.

Have a great time, remember to sleep, and let us know how it goes!

Thanks for the info. If I get this straight, I can start out with whatever team, turn it over to my assistants, click some buttons between seasons, and just repeat until I have enough of a sense of history.

If I turns firings off I will still be in charge after my sim session. Then I can take over from there, that sounds good. It doesn't sound like there is any chance my assistants will be dominating the league, so picking up a lousy team is probably not necessary. If I turn off firings...will any of the teams fire their coaches? If I turn firings off does that mean I wont be able to move between teams?

Turning firing off just means that you cannot be fired. Other coaches still can and will, I believe.
