Fantasy Football Trade

I was offered Matt Hasselback and William Green in return for Brett Farve and T.J. Duckett in fantasy football yesterday. I rejected it, but after mowing it over a bit more as well as failing to find a better deal for Farve, I am liking the trade a bit more. I am thinking about reproposing what he offered me yesterday and hope he accepts it.

Here's how my team looks like right now:

QB: Peyton Manning and Brett Farve
RB: Clinton Portis, Ahman Green, T.J. Duckett, and Amos Zereoue
WR: Rod Smith, Koren Robinson, Marty Booker, Josh Reed, and Charles Rogers
TE: Alge Cumpler and Eric Johnson
K: Martin Gramatica and Joe Nedney (soon to be dropped for a WR)
DEF: Baltimore and San Diego

Some decent QB's availabe on waivers right now are Mark Brunell, Drew Brees, Jake Plummer, and Kelly Holcomb though I'm not sure any of these guys will be a better fantasy QB than Hasselback.

So what do you guys think, should I make the trade?

Well you'd figure Duckett will split time with Dunn again. But with Green, he only played well against poor rush defenses last season. With the way your team looks, you're giving a fantasy starter and backup up for two fantasy backups. Maybe try to upgrade the TE or WR position. But that is just my opinion.

I probably wouldn't make the trade. I like Favre over Manning or Hasslebeck. I guess I'd take Green over Duckett, at least you know he'll be the feature back in Cleveland (though Duckett could get his share of short yardage TD's). But then, what do I know.

Hmm, my lawn could use some "mowing over".

I like the trade. I think Green will have a good year, and Hasslebeck started to emerge late last year. I am however, an idiot.

I'd do that trade.

Hasselback was a better QB for the last half of the season. Favre has great name value, but he's starting to fade, can't throw the long ball with much accuracy any more, and doesn't have the WRs that Hasselback has. So that's close to a wash. Besides, Manning is pretty durable so why not take a chance with your backup spot?

Green over Duckett is a big advantage for you, and at the most important position.

Pull the trigger.

I agree with ML. I think Green and Hasselback both have good upside for this upcoming season, I'd make the trade.

i agree if you can get a starter for your team than make that trade but i see you as giving the other team a starter and you changing your backups

I'd make the deal. It seems like Manning will be your starting QB. Green is a better starter or back-up than Ducket. Though if you feel you're helping your opponent, don't do it. I doubt it will be a make or break deal, though Hasselback was the man at the end of last year. I picked up him after McNabb went down. Salvaged the season for me.

Are you sure Favre is a better fantasy QB than Hasselbeck? Since you have Manning, this is essentially your backup QB anyway, and Hasselbeck was far better than Favre in the second half of last year.

As for giving the other team a starter while improving your backups, I disagree. Even if Ahman Green were clearly a better fantasy back than William Green (and I don't think that's true, although many do) you do have to consider who is going to play when Ahman inevitably gets hurt. I would make the deal in a hearbeat (I see you as getting the better player at both positions) and then try to trade Ahman.

Well I thought I should let you know the outcome. I did repropose what the guy offered me, however, he changed his mind. I did, however, make what I think was a better trade with a different person in my league (His top QB was Chad Pennington).

What I got:

WR Marvin Harrison
K Mike Vanderjagt

What they got:

QB Brett Farve
WR Marty Booker

I also ended up getting QB Matt Hasselbeck off the free agent list by releasing TE Eric Johnson. I'm not sure if I would have made this trade if Hasselbeck hadn't been available on the free agent list, but luckely, he was.

So the guy offers you Hass, then won't make the trade again later, yet releases Matt to the FA list? I'd be curious to know who he picked up in Matt's place, as he has a legit shot at being a top 10 ff QB this year, possibly top 5 if the Seattle offense is even half as good as they were in the last half of last season.

Anyways, looks like your team (imho) got stronger at 3 positions in one fell swoop.

Well, you have Manning and Hasslebeck, so losing Favre doesn't hurt you. Getting Harrison is a great pick-up, but I am always weary of having the QB and #1 wideout from the same team. One bad game will kill you. Then again, Manning-Harrison is a safe a combo as they come.

I think that in context, that second deal is a good one to make. The others who pointed out how you improved three positions was right on.

That said, judging that second deal on pure talent alone, you gave up a very good QB and very good WR (both probably top ten at their position) for the top WR and a K.

I think Harrison is phenomenal and he was incredible that year, but to give up Favre and Booker for him seems a little much to me. Glad yuo were able to pick up Hasslebach from free agency. That first guy was a moron--he shouldn't have offered you Green and Hasslebach for that deal in the first place, much less released Hasslebach.

Annoying spelling I guess those German names...

Hasselbach was the backup DE of the Super Bowl winning Broncos in 1999, which I only know because he's the only Dutch NFL player to ever achieve that (ex-player that is after the Broncos cut him 2 years ago).
