At least you made it to 2012. I'm stuck at November 6, 2005 and keep getting an "Out of Memory" error. I'm in the 3rd round of the Brazilian 3rd division playoffs. As I began the 2nd leg, game crashed to desktop. Started back up at my last save point (2nd round), and now I get the dreaded out of memory error at 11/6/05 at 20:00 even though I have a gig of DDR RAM and have the vrtual memory set to 1534 MB with a max of 2 Gigs. I'm just really frustrated cuz I'm really enjoying this team, but, even though I had proceeded past this point before the crash to desktop, I now am stuck.

Why don't you ping Marc Vaughn and see if he can help. He hangs around here often.

I believe Marc is on Holiday until next week, but if you bump this thread then, I imagine he would be more than willing to give fixing your save file a shot.

What nationality are you? That depends a lot on what types of national jobs you can qualify for. Also, remember that you have to generally be fairly well established as a good top-level manager. If you have only recently brought Dag up to the Prem, that may be the issue.

Aside from that, good job getting them up into the Premiership! Let me know when I can book my Champions League tickets

Now that Marc's back, I thought I'd give this a bump to see if he had any suggestions.

Throw me a copy of your save game and I'll see if I can figure out whats happening ...

You can email it (zipped up please) to [email protected].

Please bear in mind that I can only rectify around 60% of corrupted* save games - so I can't guarentee anything, but I'm willing to try.

*Which is what it sounds like has happened with yours

PS. First sheps at self-repair from your side would be:

* Install EP#5 if you haven't already
* Use strip news (see readme on EP#5 for this) to see if its a problem with a corrupt news item

(if these fail/you've already tried them then please mail me the game as I've indicated above)

Sorry for any inconvenience,

Marc

Of course you can magane our national team, as soon as your country rejoins the empire - or as soon we appoint a Frenchman to the position, whichever happens first

bbor,

What national team are you applying for? Some nations (Canada) don't have enough players in the database so you'll never be able to manage them.

Someone at the SI boards was able to modify the database to rectify this but it was a lot of work.

I wouldn't mind seeing this restriction removed in future versions.

The problem with removing this is simply that all you'd be able to do as a national manager is play using 'virtual' (ie. grey) players which would remove a large part of a national managers job (ie. selecting the players to be in the squad).

I might consider it for a future version, but am not currently convinced it'd be appealing to people ...

Marc,

Is the limit at managing a national team still at 100 active players, or was that changed for this version?

why not have the game create 50-100 random players when you take over a small country. They can be poor players (i.e. relative to the country's level) and maybe 1-2 very good players if they're lucky. I wouldn't complain, and it would be a nice wrinkle in the game. So if you can get the team to win in spite of talent, the talent will progressively get better.

Not a bad compromise - but to be honest I dislike the idea of players 'magically' appearing due to a user action, there might be 'cheats' running off from this sort of thing (ie. forcing generation of players and looking for the 'very good' players at each nation).

There's also the issue of 'names' in those countries being realistic (as if there are none set in the database then they won't have the 'proper' national flavour as the game won't know what it should be).

Definittely something I'll mull over.
