Any last minute Fantasy Draft advice?

My draft is tonight. We are a two-player keeper league, so this will be like the third round of the draft to start. My keepers are LaDainian Tomlinson and Shawn Alexander. Most of the other teams kept a runningback and QB, so there are a few QB's already gone(Pennington and Vick being two of them

).

Anyway, at this point who do you think are the sleepers? Who is a good late round QB pickup? What Wide-receiver is ready for a breakout? Who will be the rookie surprise?

Trent Green
Matt Hasselback
Kelly Holcomb

(Let the other guys draft the studs early. I'd be quite happy to have two of the above guys as my QBs. You could also take Doug Johnson if he falls too far, and then hold the Vick owner for ransom.)

Breakout WRs:
Koren Robinson
Chad Johnson
Quincy Morgan
Jerry Porter
Donte Stallworth
Ashley Lelie

(All these guys are fairly young, too, so they're great for a keeper league. And I'd grab Plaxico Buress in a heartbeat if he's available.)

Rookies: I'm not really sure there are any. Larry Johnson could be big if Holmes goes down. I'd stay away from Charles Rogers or Andre Johnson unless they really dropped... rookie WRs rarely do much.

This the first year we picked two keepers. Last year we started over from scratch (we did have one keeper before) with the idea of having two keepers from now on. With that in mind, I picked Stallworth as a possible long term keeper. Of course, seeing the two runningbacks I was able to pickup in the first two rounds, there was no way I was keeping anybody but these two guys. Yet, there were only two teams that kept wide-receivers (TO and Moss). Wide outs can make or break your game (at least in out league) but besides those two (and even those two are questionable) no receiver is consistant enough to put high enough numbers week end and week out to be a keeper.

Thanks for the list, though. Some good suggestions.

Do you get points for receptions? If so, certain WRs would get a nice boost. I'd take Harrison if he was left unprotected.

Otherwise, I'd wait on WRs and try to get some of the guys I listed. I'm especially high on Morgan this year.

Nope. Yardage, but they have to hit 100 yards to really get good points.

If you have those 2 backs I'd go after a QB with my 1st pick if a marqee one was available, if not, I would grab my receivers early and grab a Hasselback or mayber Kurt Warner later. Hasselback was the highest scorer in fantasy football over the last 6 games and Warner looks like the old Warner, in the preseason, for what thats worth.

William Green is really undervalued, I grabbed him in the 6th round in one draft. Edgerin James will be the old James, not the banged up guy coming off knee surgery that he was last season. Koren Robinson and Chad Johnson should have really big years. Marty Booker has put up big numbers the past 2 years and is still going really low in drafts. Dante Stallworth had 8 touchdowns last year in VERY limited time and should be up for a breakout year if his hamstring problems are behind him.

Onterio Smith, Andre Johnson, and Charles Rogers are the only rookies that I can really think of as being of any value at this point.

Those 2 RB's are a hell of a way to start your draft.

I'd take a premiere WR with your first pick, then another big WR with your 2nd pick. Moulds, Harrison, Horn, Holt - all of these guys are going to have multiple 100 yard games. You can probably get Booker, Plaxico, Toomer or someone similar with your second pick. If you need 100 yards to get points, then there aren't a whole lot of guys who can get you those points on a weekly basis, so get them while you can.

Wait on a QB. There are plenty of guys here that can score you points, and will certainly be available in round 5 or 6 or so. Hasselbeck, Trent Green and Kerry Collins come to mind. They won't go early, and you can guarantee points from them. Though it won't be as much as Manning, Warner or Favre, the points from your WR's should more than offset that.

I thought last year was going to be great, but Alexander's slow start kill me before I had a chance. If they can both play well all year, I've got a real good shot.

My draft has fantasy shark giving advice throughout the draft. It is built in to the draft board.

I'm definitely going to pick up one more quality RB, but I don't know how high. It will be hard not to pick-up a QB and at least two WR before a back up RB. Hopefully there will still be a starter with some potential around.

I'm partial to McAllister and Portis, because they were real consistent for me last year, and put up good points. It's hard to not take Alexander/Dillon though. So what do you guys think? You think Portis can keep up his stats from last year?

I can't come up with any argument for Dillon to even appear in this conversation. Shake it off, and get him out of this.

Now, you have a debate. I'd take Portis and Alexander, but I don't think it would be lunacy to argue for McAllister ahead of one of those guys.

McAllister may be more prone to injury than Portis/Alexander. Dillon is just not an every week producer (though he hits big when he does).

Ok, thanks guys. I was personally leaning towards Portis and McAllister, mostly for personal bias...but I do really like Alexander, I was just a little dissapointed with his inconsistency last year, and just all around odd things happening up Seattle.

I'm really leaning towards keeping Portis for sure. So I'm left with Deuce or Alexander. I'd hate to not pick Alexander because I think he can be huge, but I also think he could flop a lot worse than McAllister...hmm.

You went for some reaches at WR didn't you? Although, Streets will prolly put up some numbers with it being his contract year, and Ward is consistantly good.

Jones might be your big steal in this one, he's looking pretty good in T-Bay right now. It may be worth trying to package him or Duckett with Lelie or Finneran for an upgrade at WR though. Lelie will get some looks, but with Smith/Easy Ed and Sharpe still in the mix, it'll be limited for this season. Some nice potential for huge points at QB though if you manage to pick the hot hand week in, week out.

D/ST: Atlanta, Tennessee
K: Elam, Longwell
IR: Leftwich (yes, it's a keeper league, so just in case, and I had an extra pick this year through trades).

I have good memories of that RB tandem.
I drafted them in the 5th and 8th round 2 years ago and overcome busts in the other top 5 rounds to win the first FOFC based Euro FFL.

As far as Alexander - the whole Seattle offense was not very good until they had Walter Jones last season. I loved what they did (enough to count on Hasselbeck in a spring draft). Once they got him back, Alexander and Hasselbeck and Robinson were awesome. He is holding out again - be wary of any Seattle players until he is back. I think McAlister is a better choice.

It seems consensus has placed Portis ahead of both, which I would tend to agree with. I would be tempted to put him #1 overall and no lower than 3.

Wow Grant, I really hate your QB situation. Brooks is great for the first 10 games every year, but if you want a late push for playoffs or to win a playoff game, you need someone else. Does anyone else see Tommy Maddox NOT out for the season by game 11?

Travis, I love your WR corps. None of the big 3, or their little brother Eric Moulds, but I think you have four very good wideouts. All should be in the top 20 if not the top 5. With the rest of your guys, they should be more than enough to compete. That team rocks (unless you are in a 4 team league or something) so I would not give up something big to get a WR. Unless you can get a top 3 guy for one of your QBs (which is kind of risky).

I'm with Samdari...those are probably the best of the rest in the WR world this year. Holt IMO is the #5 WR this season, and Driver is top 10. Johnson and Smith are easily top twenty, so I think you're doing well.

I am curious to know how many teams are in this league.

Our's is an 8 team league with 4 keepers (and a 5th if you acquire him via an offseason trade). I ended up keeping McNabb, Alexander, Holmes, Driver (via trade) and Holt. Unfortunately, the guys I had to give up this offseason were Boston, Stallworth, Trent Green and Tiki Barber. On the bright side, only Green ended up being 'released' so I ended up with a pair of picks in each of the first 3 rounds.

And in the other draft I had this year, I took Portis at 2 overall (12 team league), and he was the 2nd RB selected. I'll admit, I'm biased against Williams. Top pick was Tomlinson, and it was a pretty big deal for me not to go homer with Alexander.

Its hard to fault you for picking Portis. Heh, no, you can't change your mind

Reasoning behind not keeping Barber was that I already had Alexander and Holmes, and wanted to keep either Holt or Boston. Ended up trading a 4th round pick to get Driver to have an extra keeper, then picked up the 2nd overall pick (Dillon) for Boston, a 2nd rounder for Barber and a 3rd rounder for Stallworth.

MIJB#19 Coordinator Join Date: Oct 2000 Location: Maassluis, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands	Shaun Alexander and LaDainian Tomlinson... I have good memories of that RB tandem. I drafted them in the 5th and 8th round 2 years ago and overcome busts in the other top 5 rounds to win the first FOFC based Euro FFL.

Brooks is great for the first 10 games every year, but if you want a late push for playoffs or to win a playoff game, you need someone else. Does anyone else see Tommy Maddox NOT out for the season by game 11? Travis, I love your WR corps. None of the big 3, or their little brother Eric Moulds, but I think you have four very good wideouts. All should be in the top 20 if not the top 5. With the rest of your guys, they should be more than enough to compete. That team rocks (unless you are in a 4 team league or something) so I would not give up something big to get a WR. Holt IMO is the #5 WR this season, and Driver is top 10. Johnson and Smith are easily top twenty, so I think you're doing well. Travis Pro Rookie Join Date: Aug 2001 Location: Canada eh	Our's is an 8 team league with 4 keepers (and a 5th if you acquire him via an offseason trade). I ended up keeping McNabb, Alexander, Holmes, Driver (via trade) and Holt. Unfortunately, the guys I had to give up this offseason were Boston, Stallworth, Trent Green and Tiki Barber. On the bright side, only Green ended up being 'released' so I ended up with a pair of picks in each of the first 3 rounds. And in the other draft I had this year, I took Portis at 2 overall (12 team league), and he was the 2nd RB selected. I'll admit, I'm biased against Williams. Top pick was Tomlinson, and it was a pretty big deal for me not to go homer with Alexander. __________________ "I don't want to play golf. Samdari Roster Filler Join Date: Jan 2002 Location: Cicero	Can I change my mind, Travis? I would have kept Barber or Boston over Holt. In an 8 team league, those WRs are not as good as I thought. I still think they are passable though. Its hard to fault you for picking Portis. Williams and Tomlinson are largely touted as the top two, but I think the #1 back could come from any of those two, Portis, Holmes (why he is discounted is beyond me) or Faulk. Its kind of a crapshoot, but you can pretty much make arguments for any of them. One thing for sure is that all will get many touches.
